Based on the recent history of Apple's shoddy upgrades, not only one would be wise to refrain from using betas but also stay away first two updates (17.1.1 and 17.1.2). 17.2 is guaranteed to be a killer OS. But if you like me, you just go ahead and put your entire Apple fleet of devices in danger of bonk-bonk...

With Name Drop, can you control what types of contact information gets shared? As in phone number only, or phone + work email, etc.?

Usually the dev beta build is released first, a day later that same beta build is released to PB testers.

I’ve signed into the public beta page but no update is showing in software updates on either my phone or iPad, despite restarting both, nor is there any obvious button to enroll my devices. Am I missing something?

If it’s the same build number then you don’t see an update.
The dev beta gets released first. Then a week later the same gets released as a public beta. So if you don’t see an update while on dev beta then that’s the latest build. Public beta will never be ahead of dev beta.

Yes that is how it usually progresses.

I’m going to update the iPad and AW for sure. Phone I’ll have to wait, I just can’t risk it, use this thing for everything from getting on the bus, to unlocking my door, to starting my car, to taking payments from clients.

I wouldn’t suggest AW just yet. I heard of people having issues with watchOS 10. iOS otoh seems pretty stable for a b3 with practically no issues at all at least for me.

As always be sure to do an encrypted backup and archive before you update.

While I don’t think we need to be salty with each other, lots of beta related questions are answered by Apple themselves on the beta website. Betas are fun and unlikely to have severe issues that make your device unrecoverable but if you don’t take a look first how are you going to hop onto the forums to ask how to DFU restore if you’re phone is dead?

Has anyone been able to download it yet? My download has been fluctuating from hours to days. Been downloading for 2 hours and it still estimates another 2 hours remaining.

Even iOS 16.5 gives me heat problems when connected via USB to carplay and routing. Even if I cover the phone to ensure it isn’t in the sun, it gets pretty warm.
