Why does the App Store have Games AND Arcade??? Pick one, and restore Updates!!! How in the world can they overthink that “design decision” but have 50 shades of grey (transparent overlays) on the home screen, notification pane, and today view???

Anyone having issues with multi tasking or slide over on iPadOS PB4? Many apps like mail, messages, Twitter etc I couldn’t drag and drop to trigger slide over.

Ok so I’m a LONG time Apple user..but lately I feel kinda dumb owning Apple tech..googles pixel phones are beautiful IMO and android has gotten much better. you can see improvements in googles AI and at this point google really just needs to hire really good UI designers...and a Watch but as far as ecosystem I feel like google is a lot closer to it being complete than Apple is. Just left T-Mobile with a pixel 3A..but I haven’t opened it yet wanted some opinion from folks. I just think I’m paying for a name at this point with Apple..I don’t think I do enough on an iPhone to pay 1k

Three questions:

1. What do you mean by “as far as ecosystem I feel like google is a lot closer to it being complete than Apple is“ ?

2. What does Google have that Apple is missing?

3. Is the difference worth trading your privacy and personal sovereignty for?

I ask these questions because to me: (1) the feature-set of both platforms is practically equal, and any differences in functionality is mere trivial conveniences masquerading as utility; (2) the real differences are not in what users get from either ecosystem, but what value systems our choices support and promote; and (3) the conveniences of Google’s ecosystem are not worth the cost — participation in and promotion of a corrupt business model that exploits its users for commercial gain ultimately at their expense.

I have tried to escape many times. But with 6 iphones in household and 4 ipads and a mac-its useless. My wife laughs as I over and over again get an andriod phone and then use it for less than a week before back on old iphone.
Yeah, I have a family member who did that for a while.

I have been. Split screen and slide over don't work well on beta 3 and 4. If the app is in a folder, slide over and split view don't work.

Okay, have to say be VERY cautious with this update. I had about 350 tabs open in Safari. The app was freezing a bit (it did this in the last beta version too) so.I double tapped, click close, then re-open. Normally, it re-spawns the app right back where I left off. NOT THIS TIME

ALL TABS gone, can’t get them back at all. IF anyone has any ideas, that would be great

Overall, safari DOES feel a bit wonky

Just another reminder IF you are doing an in place update, DO A BACKUP!

Maybe this is bugging you:

Having installed iPadOS 13 pb4, I’ve noticed that Apple Pay Cash in the message app here in the U.K. is this a bug or could the feature be coming to U.K.

OK how stable is this? I'm chomping at the bit as iOS13 has so many juicy upgrades. Also can I get all my info back when I go to iOS13 non beta release in Sept? I know I can backup today, install beta, restore backup. But in September would I backup iOS13 beta, install iOS13 full release and then restore again?

Yeah it's tough when your family is hooked. I bought a pixel 4 xl and really thought about switching back to it, but it's just impossible to pull the family out. My wife's last experience was with the exploding Note 7, she hated it and also read all the news stories on it at the time. She refuses to switch her ip7 to a X or Xs because she says the X is too large, lol. This is Apple's bread and butter consumer, they just want things super simplified and to work with no fiddling. But even for us fairly tech literate users Apple has just caught up and even surpassed Android in so many ways, while Android seems to be pulling back and trying to become more like iOS.

So yeah the Pixel just sits on my dresser collecting dust. I do use it for indoor photos as I find the pics significantly superior in that situation, but otherwise it's just a paper weight. I'll most likely trade it in and force my wife to get an ipXI.

I checked that right after it all fell to crap and no this setting wasn’t enable. It still shows close tabs MANUALLY.

Perhaps this feature is still buggy, and should report it to Apple. If you need to get your tabs back, you'll need to restore from a backup.

I know it’s a cliche to say Safari feels a bit snappier, but I’ve noticed when I go back to previous pages they’re immediately responsive, that little bit of lag before I could scroll the page has been eliminated. Kudos to the Apple developer who sorted that!

iPad Pro Gen 3 12.9” Just took the leap and everything is working very well. OS is very stable and nothing has crashed or caused any concern. Loving the Assistive Touch using a Magic Mouse. I have a MacBook Pro and it looks like it might be for sale in the near future. With the new features of iPadOS (Files, Mark-up, Assistive touch, etc) I think this iPad Pro could now be my main device.

Anyone having issues with iMessage and being able to login to iMessage server? Having issues on both XS and iPad Pro 11.

Also XS has been getting really hot any time it’s plugged into charger.

Liking the new buffs in the home screen and wallpaper settings on iPad. Overall it’s starting to feel more polished and production ready. Almost tempted to install on iPhone...

Ahh thanks. I didn’t notice this part. No wonder certain apps are working while those in folders are not.

I will just warn you public beta testers of some issues I read about in the DP5 thread. CarPlay appears to mess up on certain cars, and at random times. FaceTime Audio calls do not work when you initiate them, however, they will come in if you are called by someone using FaceTime Audio. External drive support on iPadOS is not working near as great as it did in DP3 & DP4. I also read about people not getting great LTE signal with Verizon and Sprint (both CDMA carriers) as it will cut out and the only way to get the signal back is to restart, or I guess occasionally putting your phone on Airplane Mode and then off will fix it sometimes. People have reported that battery life is worse with this build. That is all I can think of right now, but I used the MacRumors thread(s) and some threads on Apples website.

This might be one to skip, if you are using this on your daily driver.

Despite what I just typed, I have not experienced any of these issues on DP5, however, I cannot comment on CarPlay as my Alpine deck does not support it.

Just be careful everyone, and REPORT the bugs you come across if you really want this to be a great release!

:apple:

Thanks for posting this. I’m experiencing signal issues with my iPhone XS Max with this new beta and I have been going crazy. Idk what to do

Is anyone having issues when typing messages or text where it is using as an example e' for e or capitalizing words in the middle of a sentence that should not be capitalized? Autocorrect using the wrong word for substitution such as wring instead of wrong, etc. I have reported to Apple via feedback just wondering if I am crazy or not. Its aggravating.
Thanks

Is anyone else who is using the beta having any issues with slide over and split screen with folders in the dock at all?

It’s a matter of preference. I mean, you might prefer Android to iOS, you might not. It also depends on what apps you use. Android could be the greatest OS ever made, I still wouldn’t use it because it doesn’t have Things, Bear and Fantastical, for example. While most common apps are available on both platforms, iOS has the best exclusives, in my opinion. It also works great with other Apple devices. And it’s simple and fast. Android has more customization options, better notifications, etc. Do you care about these things or other? Only you know.
Your points are great. For me, I also add in that when I upgrade my ipad, watch, phone, and mac, things still (for the most part) work together. And apple supports some pretty old things. I have a family with 3 iphone se, 2 ipad pro 12.9 1st gen and in air 2, an apple watch series 1 and 4, a macbook pro from 2015, a 2013 imac and a 2018 mini. So with such varied stuff still supported and working together is pretty remarkable.

I thought it was just me but I struggled mightily yesterday with mail, photos, calculator, and one other app.

One of my favorite new features continues to experience issues... Share ETA. In the second public beta, tapping Share ETA would cause Maps to crash. They fixed it in the third public beta. Now in the fourth public beta, the automatic Shared ETA (set a favorite location and add contacts to automatically share your ETA with whenever to select the destination in maps for directions) sends its initial message with the current time instead of the displayed ETA... as long as your travel is more than 5 minutes, it will send the correct time 5 minutes later, but looking like a delay instead of an original ETA.

I had 4 or 5 Android phones before switching to the iPhone 7 Plus, and I have no plans to go back to Android. In fact, as a new pilot, I don’t even have the option - critical software (Foreflight) is made only for iOS.

Even if that wasn’t an issue, I no longer trust Google with that much data. I’m waiting on the Europeans to rake Google over the coals, and I’m using more extensions in Safari to block the kind of tracking that Google adores.

The fragmentation of the Android ecosystem is ridiculous. Your Android phone is probably on a different OS than your Android tablet, and always will be. You’re stuck buying new Android devices every 2 years in order to get the latest OS, or at least that was the state of Android when I left it.

Forget it. Apple’s ecosystem is worth the premium price. Good luck, though.
