I have 2 homepods 14.6 and the Apple TV 4K second gen. I wonder if I should do the update to 14.7 on the hompods. Already updated everything else.

So I’ve updated iPhone to 14.7 and homepods to 14.7. I had them individually set up before the update. They were not very warm to the touch. Now after updating, I’ve paired them again in stereo and I can confirm, nothing seems fixed.

The OG HomePods are once again quite warm to the touch and the the stereo pair are not playing nice together. I’ve tried airplaying from iPhone 14.7 to the HomePods, and all it does try to connect and nothing happens.

I also tried asking Siri on the homepods to play a song and only one HomePod is playing music, even though they are paired in the Home app…

There is one positive and it seems that the one HomePod that is playing music sounds much better than it did on 14.6.

so, 14.7 didn’t fix much, if anything.

So I’ve update both my OG Homepods (theater mode ATV4K 2021) and everything seems fine. I did heard a loud fart though but after some investigation it seemed my girlfriend was the culprit. Anyway, somehow Siri jumped from my left HomePod to the right?! How.. and why..? So many questions..

All HomePods (2 of the OGs, 5 of the Minis) are working fine after this update (which worked flawlessly as a manual update via the Home app). However, the timer feature does not work with iOS 15. I haven't tried iPad OS yet, but given that's also on a beta of 15, I expect it probably will also fail. All of the Pods are on 14.7

UPDATE: And now timers are working. I changed nothing and had already confirmed that 14.7 was installed on all Pods. SMH

Updated both my OG homepods that are in stereo pair. They were previously unplugged in 14.6 because of the overheating issue. They feel warm to the touch, but I did just update and played one song through them to make sure they worked. Going to leave it unattended for a bit and check back.

EDIT: 1 day - I checked on my homepods periodically throughout the day yesterday and they were warm, but not concerningly warm, so 14.7 seems to be fine. But to be safe, I did unpair them and changed my default audio for my Apple TV to the TV, turned off "Hey Siri" and Intercom.

Out of interest, are you Southern Hemisphere?

Ive had a HomePod since launch, and always noticed it was slightly warm to the touch in the summer months.
I wonder is this it because I’d never noticed them running hot before and it’s extremely warm weather here the last few weeks which isn’t normal.

I’ve updated 2 of my 6 to 14.7 after reading the comments that the update went ok at least. They’re hot but we’re also having a heatwave. I just don’t remember them ever being this hot.

Debating whether to update the rest of them because as some posts have said if we’re not experiencing issues is there even an issue? I didn’t have any issues on 14.6 it was just the heat that worried me. The thoughts of them literally sitting there frying is on my mind.

In comparison my minis are cool to touch.

I constantly got this after updating to 14.6. Hoping 14.7 fixes this issue.
Check to ensure your phone is on the same WiFi network as your Pods. I got this same message (which was obscure) and discovered that my phone was on a secondary WiFi net here at home. Switched phone back to our primary net and all was good.

I never paid too much attention, but as far as I can remember, my mini has always been cool to touch and my homepods always warm to touch. I always put it down to larger amp / woofer internals in the homepod, vs a small single speaker in the mini. Growing up, many moons ago, all my receiver/amps would get hot under use. Those were heavily vented and some even had active cooling. This was especially the case in summer - got thermal shutoffs sometimes on an old Sony receiver I had growing up.

I guess there may have been some tweaking of when the amp is actually active compared to earlier. One of my homepods (the oldest) has the popping issue, which is apparently linked to the amp getting power. They may be trying to minimize this issue (although really, who knows).
