Nice, seems to have fixed the issue where my original HomePod Stereo pair wouldn't play music for me via Hey Siri if they were connected to the AppleTV for home cinema output.

Works absolutely flawlessly for me now :)

Let's see, it just got:
1) Dolby ATMOS support for AppleTV, first for video and then for music
2) eARC support so you can play all TV sound through it, including consoles
3) Better timer management
4) Won't die because of overheating
Upcoming:
1) Lossless audio support
2) Standalone Dolby ATMOS music support

all for a discontinued product.
Let's hold the judgement on #4 for awhile.....

Well I was planning on waiting. Decided I would let the mini in the kitchen update and test it out for a while before updating the other 5 homepods. Well it decided to update them all at the same time. I’ve noticed that the display on my OG homepods doesn’t stay lit up when I’m not using it like they were on 14.6.
Thanks for the info!

Do we know for certain that 14.7 fixes the mystery HomePod problem which was bricking devices? I haven't used mine for 2 weeks now (aside from alarms) and I really want to. Wondering whether 14.7 is better or worse than 14.6. Because my HP wasn't having any problems that I could see...but given that peoples' HPs just randomly failed without warning, I thought it best to turn off all Siri/interactive features and stop listening to them.

I can set the timer through the Home app on my iPhone but the option is not showing up on my iPad.

All 3 HomePods on 14.7. iPhone on 14.7. iPad on 14.6(haven’t released a 14.7 for iPad).

Anyone see the timer option available on iPad Home App?

Blackmondo: not being sarcastic but I have the new ATV and set up the eARC for my Samsung TV....works but whats so 'amazing' about it? Am I not aware of a feature / use that you have found? Thanks in advance for any reply.
It’s ”amazing” because it actually works, and consistently so far. Anything HDMI related that works more than once or reliably is generally amazing, and now
there’s a new way of getting non Apple audio into HomePods. Also, my tv is a 2015 Sony which is where I’m using it, so there’s that.

I didn’t have an issue with my HomePod and the latest version doesn’t appear to have caused any harm either. I remember it being warm that first day I set it up a couple months back but it hasn’t gotten warm or had any bugs since. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I don't understand the whole Updating on the Homepod. I do it via the home app, but what exactly am I updating. It's a speaker. I don't think there is much use for security on a speaker. I do wish it could run multiple timers at once, even though I always just use the phone and watch. Other than sound, there really isn't much to the HomePod, is there? Also with the original being discontinued, It's a bummer I bought one in November. I like it, it has nice sound, but it was a slightly overrated product.
It’s a computing device on your network so security is always an issue now. The worst part about the original incarnation was a lack of alternative input, but it seems they were busy with other stuff and reviewers weren’t impressed.
The audio quality is amazing for the size, especially the well controlled bass and now that we’re getting lossless and other audio sources via ARC, their potential is being realised. Glad I got them while they were still available.

Is it just me, or is the bass a lot softer now?

I thought it was too boomy before but yeah you may be right, it seems to sound more balanced now.

I also notice on my single HomePod that there appears to be a stereo effect now; the center plays in the direction it always has but stereo effects play out of the sides. Could’ve been there this entire time but I never noticed it; audio sounded mono and stifled but now it sounds wider and much more balanced. I wonder if this is the same processing it has in the Atmos mode but for stereo on a single HomePod. Wouldn’t be a surprise, Apple is enabling blanket Atmos processing for everything on their devices now.

I just updated 2 OG stereo paired Homepods to 14.7 and they’re still both very warm. Much warmer than they ever were before 14.6. Unplugged one, and the other is still the same. They’re not connected to an Apple TV.

I have a stereo pair as well, and I had to literally lean left and right to make sure they’re both playing.

I disabled Sound Check and adjusted the volume and they still sound “softer.” Not sure how I feel about the sound yet, but at least they don’t shake my desk anymore.

Same here. I just updated my Stereo Pair of OG HomePods from 14.6 to 14.7 and they’re both still very warm to the touch even after idling for a while.

Not connected to an Apple TV, just a Stereo Pair. Intercom is turned off, but Siri is on, if that makes any difference.

That being said, I didn’t pay much attention to how warm they were prior to the reports of bricked HomePods from the 14.6 update. But I don’t ever remember tapping the top to play/pause and it being noticeably warm before. Unplugged them pretty soon after updating to 14.6, might leave them plugged in overnight with 14.7 to see if they cool down before unplugging again. 🙏

Also noticing the bass is a bit softer, as others have reported above. Sound seems more balanced to me.

UPDATE: after leaving the HomePods plugged in and idle over night, they have cooled down considerably. Using them now, no more pops or crackles and they don’t feel as warm to the touch.

Zero reports of bricking.

Anyone else having issues since updating with Siri saying something went wrong when asking it to set a timer and then for the timer to go off at the right time anyways?

It appears that 14.7 fixes the muffled dialogue issue in "home theater" speaker mode, as my HomePod OG dialogue now sounds crystal clear when watching shows and movies. Can anyone else confirm? The only downside is the HomePods seemed very hot after 2 hours of watching shows.
After updating the Apple TV (infuriating update nag screen) and HomePods, there was random crackle in the audio like encoding frequency mismatch which fortunately went away, but appeared momentarily again last night 😕
Audio quality seemed similar otherwise.
