AirPlay has been very buggy with my full-sized HomePod for a while now.

I often tell it to directly play the stream of my local radio station in the morning (just saying "play WNYC FM"), and that works great, and I stop playing it later by tapping the top touch surface. But then later on, I'll try to use it to AirPlay something from my phone and it will not work. It looks like it's playing on the phone's screen, but no sound is coming out. Sometimes I get a message asking if I want to "replace" what's currently playing, and I say yes (even though nothing was playing). In the end, I end up unplugging it to reset pretty much every day.

Looks like you can see the wifi network your Homepod mini is on now. This was not working for me on 15.1

Just downloading the update now but where it said WiFi Address if you tap that it shows the WiFi network your HomePod is on (15.1).

Curiously, after updating my HomePod it rebooted with Voice Over activated.
Mine did the same thing when updating to 15.1. The voice over setting showed as disabled in the HomePod settings and I had to enable it and then disable it again for it to deactivate voice over.

Does updating the HomePod to audioOS 15.x require each iOS device owned by the user to be on iOS 15.x first?

Same thing happened to mine, saw the setting was disabled, so instead of turning that on/off, I removed HomePod from Home and added again, which achieved the same end result, but taking longer... ?

Hope it also add lossless and spatial audio for my original HomePod. Setting wasn’t there with the 15.1 update using the Home app on my phone or Mac….. ah. Just realised my phone is not on 15.1 but the HomePod is. And Mac is still on Big Sur. that’s maybe the problems doh.

The IOS device also needs to be on 15.1 for the lossless and Atmos settings to appear in the Home app. You can´t enable or disable these settings from Mac OS yet (don´t know why).

Also, audio is not part of HomePod's branding.

iPadOS: iPad Pro
tvOS: Apple TV
mac
OS: MacBook
watchOS: Apple Watch

Also, the term audioOS is just vague enough to be associated with Apple's more popular audio product line, AirPods, which does not use the same OS that powers HomePods.

The same can be said about iOS, which I think should be renamed to phoneOS. But at least "i" now invokes iPhone more than any other Apple products (including its predecessors iMac and iPod).

homeOS is probably more appropriate, and I suspect that should Apple create additional smart home products, it would use a derivative of the OS that is powering HomePods.

Which is a fork of tvOS.

HomePod Software (ugh) is a fork of tvOS. tvOS is a fork of iOS. And iOS is a fork of macOS.

AirPod and perhaps AirTag might be forked from watchOS?

Correct. Good question about the Airpods and Airtags.

It´s like a dream, within a dream, within a dream... ?

15.1.1 is still a horror show as far as invoking scenes and shortcuts.
“Hmm, this is taking a little too long” after every damn one.”
Pathetic.
It all worked perfectly prior to 15.0
Yes, this has been infuriating! I submitted a bug report to Apple for 15.0 and hoped it would be fixed in 15.1, but it wasn't. I submitted another bug report for 15.1 and was hoping maybe they finally fixed the problem with 15.1.1. Your comment suggests I'll be submitting yet another bug report for 15.1.1 after I have a chance to update. Sigh.

There is hope.

I'll check this after the update, but the last version really messed with the touch controls. Previously I could say "Play LBC" (radio channel) and, stop it quickly by tapping the top centre of the HomePod. As of the last release that didn't work, and I had to double-tap the HomePod to make it go quiet. As for the touch controls for volume, single tap didn't work. Instead, it would delay for several seconds and say something like "decrease volume", without actually decreasing the volume. That proved to be a pain when I directed an incoming call at the HomePod: the volume almost blew the ceiling off my room. Here's hoping...
Turning on and back off both the "VoiceOver" and "Touch Accommodations" options under the Accessibility option from your HomePod (mini) configuration in Homekit should fix that issue.

We have some Echo Dots in our home and I'm absolutely frustrated to hell with Alexa and how it about 75% of the time continues to talk, suggest things, ask me questions, recommend apps etc etc when I ask/tell it to do something. Is Siri like that on these? Or does Siri just do wtf you tell it to and shut up? Also, I haven't kept up with these since the HomePod came out and everyone was flipping out about some "ring" it left on furniture. Is that still an issue?

After releasing tvOS 15.1.1 for the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K yesterday, Apple today introduced a new 15.1.1 software update designed for the HomePod.

HomePodandMini-feature-green.jpg

According to Apple's release notes for the update, it addresses a problem that could cause podcasts to fail to play on the HomePod and HomePod mini.

‌‌‌‌‌‌HomePod‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ software is installed automatically on the ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌HomePod‌‌‌ unless the feature is disabled‌‌‌‌, but the ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌HomePod‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ can also be manually updated in the Home app by following the instructions in our HomePod‌‌ update how to.

The HomePod 15.1.1 software comes a week after the launch of HomePod 15.1, an update that added Lossless Audio and Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio support to the HomePod. Lossless Audio is available on both the ‌HomePod‌ and ‌HomePod mini‌, while Spatial Audio is available on the larger-sized and now-discontinued ‌HomePod‌.

Apple this week also introduced the HomePod mini in three new colors that include orange, yellow, and blue.

Ok so they went in and fixed a bug for podcasts because that was more important then fixing HomeKit? Really?!?! I can’t turn on my living room lights or tell any room to do anything. Everything I ask Siri says she can’t find anything like that in my home. I can’t turn on or off anything by voice anymore, it says would I like to adjust the power and I say yes and it does nothing. I just bought an 86” LG tv with HomeKit that worked with Siri for 3 weeks until iOS 15 came out and now I’m back to pushing buttons. I spent 2k to use my tv with Siri for 3 weeks and now it’s broken and Apple wants to prioritize a podcast bug are you kidding me!!! There are blind and low vision people that can no longer use the commands they are used to using to use their phone, but being able to play a podcast is more important I guess. God forbid the crazies can’t listen to faux news for opinions from people who believe in alternative facts! I have a lot of money in my smart home HomeKit set up. If Apple doesn’t fix this quick like yesterday then I think they owe me a lot of money. What happened to Apple post Steve Jobs my god. I know he’s turning in his grave with all these different OSs now. He never wanted so many OSs. macOS iOS tvOS watchOS iPadOS audioOS no wonder they can’t fix anything too many OSs. Apple get your sheets together please you falling apart on the software side badly. They even changed beta testing around to kill more bugs before release and now the releases have more bugs then ever. Stop blowing smoke up your own butt and get to coding please.

Pretty much shuts up...No, it doesn't offer 'ads' which is what those 'recommendations' probably are ...

Failed to play? Hell, it can't even find the damn podcast that I have subbed to in the Podcast app.

on iPhone: "Siri, play latest podcast of ABC News Update" . It finds and plays correctly

On HP mini it takes 2 tries and the right syntax.
1st try: Siri responds, "Here's Apple Podcast" and plays different podcast
2nd try: "Ok, playing latest podcast of ABC News Update...ABC News Update" and plays correctly
If I ask, "Siri play latest (or newest) episode of ABCNews Update". Response is either silence, No new episodes available, or Here's Apple Podcast.

With CNN 5 things:
On HP mini, "Siri, give me the news." Plays CNN 5 things
Siri, play CNN News. Response, gives me Jake Tapper's podcast

Any rumors of return of a non-"mini" HomePod?
I'd like a second pair. minis are great for the kids, but not for office listening. Briefly moved my full-size ones to the TV and they don't want to come back...

Hopefully this fixes whatever was bricking HomePods - I’ve already lost one :(
I thought this update had bricked mine, as it was stuck with the orange flashing light for about 6 hours. With nothing to lose I rebooted and thankfully it has recovered, and has updated successfully to 15.1.1.

I could have done without the scare though…

Same. This was the bug fix I was hoping for.
