Bargain for multiple users

I really like the $99 price for 5 users. Now I can update my own Mac, my kids, my brother-in law's, my brother's and my parents', splitting the cost with my relatives. At $20 per user, it's a fantastic bargain - and I already have iLife '05! (And no, I'm not a shill.)

Only for casual bloggers/website makers

Keep in mind that it might not support things like SFTP or even FTP. It might only support WebDav. I know I will be sticking to DreamWeaver, it's definitely lacking a code editor.

This was my first concern as well.

My other concern, which I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to, would be: does it install blogging software on your webserver, something akin to WordPress et al., so you can make a post from anywhere whether you have your Mac or not? Or does it store the database of your posts on your Mac and require you to post from your Mac?

I assume the latter, as I'd highly doubt they'd offer the former.

Which makes it not really a real, useful, serious blogging tool.

But I suppose that's like everything else in iLife - iPhoto is for casual photographers, GarageBand isn't quite a serious music tool... well, iTunes has become pretty serious.

Is there any feature that the i apps except iWeb has that the pro apps don't

Not to my knowledge. They implement certain features differently in some cases (i.e. iMovie is not just FCE, it has a different UI, etc.), but I believe all the core functionality is there in the Pro apps, and obviously much much more.

What do you mean? I have no idea what WebDav is.
I am assuming you mean that it will creat webpages, but wont upload them to a server (much how iPhoto creates them, but doesnt upload)

so- biggest addition that i see is the addition of the 'mini-store'

else- seems to be pretty much like iTunes 6.0.1

anyone find anything else new?
I hate the stinking mini store, anyone know how to get rid of this?

RAW support in iPhoto '06?

Can anybody point me to a official list of cameras that iPhoto '06 supports in RAW format? Particularly interested in the Sony DSC-R1. I couldn't find that info anywhere on their site today.

Thanks,
Sean

From Apple's website:

"*iWeb publishing requires Internet and webserver access (.Mac recommended). The .Mac service is available to persons age 13 and older. Annual membership fee and Internet access required. Terms and conditions apply."

So it appears there is at least some sort of support for publishing to your own webserver.

sweet as. :D i'm going to get it and give it to my parents so they stop pestering me.

Anyone else notice that iMovie now supports more input formats
Not only does iMovie HD 6 support a vast array of digital camcorders — from standard DV models to solid-state MPEG-4 video cams to state-of-the-art HDV camcorders — but it also supports a wide variety of video formats. That includes DV, DV Widescreen, iSight, MPEG-4 (Simple Profile), and HDV (720p & 1080i).
http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/features/formats.html

Looks like those with MPEG-4 camcorders can finally use iMovie. I'm a bit suprised though that MPEG-2 (i.e. miniDVD camcorders) are not explicitly supported.

Yes you can do that IF all those people live in the same house. Read the license terms.. Everyone has to live together in the same place to make use of the family pack. Of course you can ignore this and do as you please, but it's best not to admit to it in a public forum.

RAW conversion is done through OS X (if Preview can't open it, no new iPhoto will be able to open it). I was hoping the 10.4.4 update would add the DSC-R1.. just checked... unfortunately it doesn't. I guess it's understandable as even Adobe only has the R1 working in it's beta RAW conversion software.

Looks like we'll have to wait for 10.4.5... probably to be released around the time the new MacBook's start shipping. (just a guess)

Interesting, thanks, didn't realize it was an OS X thing. So where did you check to see if 10.4.4 supported it? I looked here:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302810

but all it says is:

"iPhoto can now import and work with raw graphic files from several recent digital cameras."

Was I the only one underwhelmed by iWeb? Templates are fine, and WYSWYG is great but can you not start from a blank slate and does it not have any way to edit the underlying code without opening it up in Textedit?

About the only reason I'm buying iLife '06 is iPhoto. :-/ But selling iLife '05 on eBay will help. :D

I assume that like in Pages, one of the included themes in iWeb will be Blank:D

iWeb was a long time coming, and I am glad to see it finally arrive. From what was demoed, it looks great.

I want to try iLife '06 before I buy. However I am not sure if I will buy a new Macintosh this year, then it will be included. Have to decide.

This seems like a good update and well worth buying! unlike iWork 06 which I will probably buy as well :p

Nondestructive changes in iPhoto?

I was hoping the new iPhoto would handle changes to the photos like Aperature, where it doesn't actually edit the original, but rather saves the edits in a database. I hate how iPhoto duplicates every photo I edit in that it takes up a lot more space.

If the new iPhoto works like Aperature for this, than that feature alone is worth the upgrade. As I can't find any mention of it on the web site, however, I am assuming nothing has changed in this regard . . . I am hoping someone can tell me I am wrong.

Not so sure about that. I think iWeb is basically a fancier Sandvox. I'm betting that it'll only work with its templates.

Software Coupons

I just recently bought a powerbook and it came with the iLife '05 + Mac OS X v10.4 Software Coupon. Would any of these coupons get me a discount for iLife '06  That'll be great, otherwise I am still going to have to pay full price for it :( because I really want it :D

I am wondering if anybody knows if iWeb is a real Website creator program or one that only works with .Mac. I can't really tell from the info on Apple's website.
It sure would be nice to have Apple come out with a Website Builder program. Although Rapidweaver is a great app and Sandvox looks real promising.

I ordered it :) I'm real keen on the new podcast features in Garageband etc.

Can't wait for it to arrive.

I've never seen any use for the coupons.
