Aside from needing a bit more polish, what's broken with CarPlay that needs fixing?

I've been having MANY CarPlay crashes since the last update and issues that did just not exist in iOS 9.

When I was on the 10.1 beta, CarPlay would only work if I restarted my phone while it was plugged into the unit. It would always say the device was not compatible for CarPlay when I plugged it in.

Except for the rare screen glitch requiring either unplugging and replugging the cable or in the worst case turning the car off and on it works well on my 2016 Accord. Worked on my 6s Plus under iOS 9 and still does with my 7 Plus under iOS 10.
I have the same thing kind of thing on my Pioneer head unit in my current vehicle...so I guess its an Apple problem, not a Pioneer problem. I am planning on buying a new Civic or Accord (for other reasons) so I was just curious.

Ok, updating now, I know, I didn't learn my lesson when 10 first came out and I tried to upgrade my 6s+. Anyway, first apple Logo has popped up. Anyway, what I don't get, is why are people so lazy to read what is in the update. Half the posts here are asking if a bug was fixed, music star rating fixed, etc. Why don't you read the release notes, it tells you everything. Why should anyone have to repost it, when it's on your phone and even in the OP. Anyway, done ranting about the lazy people. But for those who were too lazy not to read the OP, here is the list again, my guess, is you will still be too lazy to read everything

It's not true that everything is in the release notes. For instance, there was no warning when the Music star rating functionality was removed. If there was, I could have stayed on iOS 9.

But there was something about the entire MUSIC app being redesigned. So, while I agree that the star rating being removed was not specifically stated, the MUSIC app being redesigned was.

Settings > iTunes & App_Store > Automatic_Downloads > Music

No, it's the music I have in iTunes on my computer and have decided not to sync to my phone. They show with the download icon. I don't want to see them, which is why I didn't sync them. What you suggested turns off automatic downloads of new purchases, which I have off already as I generally purchase via my phone anyway.

Now I'm getting iTunes in the cloud purchases I have not downloaded showing up on my phone AGAIN! ... I found the 'Downloaded Music' option in the music.app but having to go through that instead of just selecting the Songs option is ridiculous.

I find it hard to understand your dissatisfaction here. Its just one extra tap on downloaded Music, which is only required about once per iphone reboot. After that tap you're in the same full menu structure you would be in otherwise, but at that point you're seeing all your songs, artists, albums, playlists and genres for ONLY downloaded music only. After that, the music app will remember your position in the menu structure (within downloaded music) until you force quit your music app or reboot your phone.

Is that what you're pissed about? That you have a single extra tap required in the music app ONLY after rebooting your phone? Is that what you're referring to, when you say: "having to go through that instead of just selecting the Songs option is ridiculous." ?

Exactly, and yes, it does piss me off, because there was the option to not show iTunes in the cloud purchases and now it's gone (why?). It pisses me off not that I have to press the button, but that Apple sees fit to tell me what should appear in my music library. If I want those songs on my iPhone, I'll put them there. I understand people will want that, but don't force it on everyone. There was an option, so why couldn't Apple bloody well leave it there.

Actually apple has not removed any capability in this regard from settings. You can still hide all music library items for songs that were purchased but are not on the phone :

Settings > Music > iCloud Music Library > TURN-OFF

I don't have that option.

Maybe I stated it in a confusing way, so just to be sure, I'll paraphrase

- go to settings > music
- look for "iCloud Music Library", and turn it off

I understood. I don't have that setting.

I definitely have the setting on my phone, but I did some googling and you're not the only person missing that setting. I then checked my friends phone and it's missing there as well.

I suspect its a bug. One difference may be that I have iTunes Match and am a subscriber to "Apple Music". Do you have either of those, and have you tried updating to 10.1.1? If it's a bug, there's some slight chance that it might be fixed in 10.1.1

No, I don't subscribe to either iTunes Match or Apple Music. I'll keep and eye out in the next update. Thx

Apple today released iOS 10.1 to the public, marking the first major update to the iOS 10 operating system that launched on September 13. In testing since September 21, iOS 10.1 saw Apple release five betas to developers and public beta testers before its public debut.

Today's iOS 10.1 update is available as a free over-the-air update for all iOS 10 users. It is the third update to iOS 10, following iOS 10.0.3, a minor bug fix update.

iOS 10.1 introduces a new "Portrait" mode, designed to take advantage of the two cameras included in the iPhone 7 Plus, released in September. Portrait mode uses the wide-angle and telephoto lenses in the iPhone 7 Plus to create shallow depth of field portrait photos with blurred backgrounds.

To achieve the blurred look, the image signal processor in the device uses the wide-angle camera to create a depth map while the telephoto captures an image, dissecting the different layers of the photo to decide what to blur with an artful "bokeh" effect. It works on people, pets, and objects, but it does require good lighting to achieve the proper results.

The update also offers a long list of bug fixes and other under-the-hood improvements to address many problems that have been uncovered since iOS 10 was released, and it also brings Transit directions to Japan for the first time.

There have been some tweaks to the Messages app. It's now possible to play Bubble and Screen effects in Messages with Reduce Motion enabled, something that wasn't previously possible. There's also a new option to replay Bubble and Screen effects. A full list of changes is available below:

[doublepost=1479074366][/doublepost]I've been pushing off the IOS 10 update because I know I'm going to hate it.... I've searched and searched but all I find is "top issues with IOS 10" and "why IOS 10 is better," or "4 reasons why you should not update to IOS 10.. and 6 reasons you should" (which is a really dumb article and title). I know I'm supposed to be a techie n all but my question to everyone is simple.... why do we need to update at all?? i know there's bug fixes, but seriously, how many bugs do you run across that really affect your phone usage daily?? Why does Apple and Android keep pushing updates and a new OS every year? It's always fraught with issues, they are also filled with unnecessary stupid changes with no logical or functional reason why its changed other than change itself. Really? Why? Has anyone REALLY asked themselves why they do it every time they upgrade? Is it your work that requires it (leah), I can understand that. But seriously, its becoming comical to watch every year as I see the masses going through the same motions eating whatever's fed to them, even though it tastes worse and worse every year. When does the cycle stop? Will there be an IOS 20 that will faintly resemble the great IOS it once was? Is this like the frog boiling slowly to death and no one else is noticing just how ****** IOS has become? My iPhone 3 & 4 had a beautiful, SIMPLE interface, it all worked. I used that phone with ease and the same way i use my phone today. Why do I have to push instead of slide now? etc. Is anyone else realizing how insane this has all become? Why do we have to go through the pains of this every year like it's tax season? and why are we as customers putting up with it?

Progress. The word you are looking for is progress :)
