5S updated like a charm; you guys had me worried. Still the best iPhone ever :)

On the downside, I'm connected to wifi but my status bar says LTE. A little annoying.

Updated my dad's iPad Pro , wowweeeee !!! , errr

Actually , pretty underwhelming tbh - couldn't see much difference tbh ...!?!?

Try to update before restoring once you connect to iTunes to try to avoid losing your personal data. That is if iTunes gives you the update option. This is mostly targeted at people who haven't backed their devices up. If the update route doesn't work then you have to restore. If it's not giving you iOS 10 as the latest update you need to update iTunes before hand.

NOTES
What's happening?
The OTA update version might be corrupted. The update will download completely, verify prior to install, go into the Apple update screen, then crash into the "Plug into iTunes" screen. The update bar went as far as about 75% - 80%.

Who is affected?
So far, only iPad Pros, iPhone 6S / S+ and iPhone SEs have complained of corrupt installs. All of those who have complained used OTA updates, so it may affect more.

What do I do?
1.) DO NOT USE OTA UPDATES - it's the most common culprit in the bunch. Avoid it like the plague.
2.) IF YOU ARE UPDATING, USE USB + iTUNES. Those who have been successful have used the iTunes download. Slower, but working.
3.) IF YOU ARE BRICKED - Plug into iTunes and use "Update" to clear out your problem. You don't need to do a full restore, thankfully. I've done a simple update and everything worked swimmingly.

Should be common knowledge to all Apple i users anyhow. :p

This needs to be stickied!

If the phone cuts off for 2-3 minutes. It's not bricked. Don't hard reset. It's part of the update process
Incorrect. The pause that is part of the update is not what we are seeing. We are seeing an indicator to plug our phones/pads into computer to restore, and iTunes reports they are in recovery mode.

Though I was able to recover back to 9.3.5 and then OTA to 10.0.1 with no issue after that.

This was NOT a good customer experience.

Even though it errored - it was actually downloading the update. So I went to the downloads area and it showed it downloading. Once that is done, then try the update on the iPhone. That worked for me.
Thanks. That has eased my worries, though I have a 78 minute wait.

I was supposed to be leaving work in 15 minutes, but I guess not, because I am now stuck restoring **** via iTunes and then have to wait for restoring from iCloud backup. Thanks Apple!

Last time I am ever updating anything on launch day.

It seems i didi the smart thing updating days earlier.

Plugged into iTunes and hit "Update".... Looks like it's using the update data already downloaded over the air, as it skipped the download of the software and went straight to "Verifying" phase. Fingers crossed....

If it has already downloaded the update over air and is preparing the update, how do I stop it?

EDIT: It just gave me 10 sec to say I want to install it later and then again, I could chose between installing tonight or a later reminder. Choose the reminder.

Might have just dodged a bullet here :).

THANKS!

I've been using apple devices since iPhone 3G and this has never happened to me. This is the first time an iOS update has bricked my devices. People have a right to complain about a sloppy update.

I just updated an iPhone 6+, iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air 2 with zero issues... I've never been bricked but have at times suffered through overwhelmed Servers...
