I updated my ipad pro 9.7 via OTA. It rebooted after install and it's in recovery mode and I have to restore 9.3.5 and start over. :(

They are correct, but there is a technical reason for it.

Why M9?
Apple could have lowered system requirements for Raise to Wake, but has obviously decided against doing so as that would’ve resulted in a significantly increased power consumption because previous-generation motion coprocessors were not optimized for continual monitoring of the iPhone’s sensors in a power-efficient manner.

Good to know, thank you Jarred. :)

iTunes is now trying to update my iPhone via recovery mode. Will update when it is done.

Doesn't this feel like a change just to change something?
No new ideas so let's add balloons to iMessages?

My thoughts exactly..

- The changes to control center, the use of two pages for tasks and music is horrible, before, we had smaller iPhones everything was in one page, now that we have bigger iPhones they can't fit all of that in on page.
- The "white" color of the notifications, why????
- They remove (for no reason) if you want the notifications in manual order.
- Seems to me way to inconsistence, round and square corners everywhere and mixing way too much.
- In widgets, if there are no reminders pending, why have an empty box, same with calendar.

Overall feels a .X update, I'm still thinking they will implemente much more changes to iOS 11 and iPhone 8 next year.

Just tried to run the update on my iPad Pro 9.7" and it bricked it. I've got the screen showing to hook it up to iTunes. I'm trying that now, but iTunes says it has to update to iOS 9.3.5. Hopefully I'll be able to get iOS 10 working on it soon. I've never had this problem before with an iOS update, though I've read of others having this problem. It makes me nervous to update my iPhone now.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yes.. same problem on 6S

Let's see.. iMessages were perfect, they were the most important feature keeping me with an iPhone.
Now it's just pure cr@p for a 5-year old.
Maps - never use them. No slide to open my phone - why? Just to mess up with something everyone likes?
Haven't noticed any other "changes"...
So things changed that you don't use or didn't notice and, your mind, that means they didn't change. I remember my two year old putting his hands over his eyes because he though if he could see me I couldn't see him....

And you know you don't have to use the new features on iMessage if it really upsets you that much right?

Overall I think iOS 10 is a good upgrade. My favorite things:
  • Quickly filter mail with just a tap and customize filters.
  • 3D Touch everywhere. Adjusting the torch to be dimmer is useful when I’m going to bed and my wife is already asleep.
  • Some iMessage apps seem kinda useful, such as quickly sharing the weather. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of innovative apps are released going forward.
  • Turn off read receipts per-person. I’ve been wanting this for years!
  • The new bedtime feature has been helping me to get more regular sleep. I’m really bad about this. It’s much more gentle at slowly waking you up than an instant-on blazing alarm. They’re gentle but gradually get harsher which helps me wake up easier.
  • Responding to notifications is much better. It keeps the thread updated while people respond to you.
  • Photo search is amazing. It finds so many obscure things. It still needs some work to expand it’s knowledge, but for a first release it’s crazy good.
  • HomeKit in control center is really useful to quickly adjust my thermostat. I wish I could get that on the Apple Watch.
  • Being able to check voicemail during a meeting via transcribed text feels really futuristic for some reason.
  • Apple Music seems a little more organized
  • Being able to 3D Touch on Reminders and quickly check things off is pretty useful.
  • Being able to share notes with my wife is really nice. There are some simple common things that we share and sometimes work on or iterate, such as recipes, or different measurements of our new house for buying furniture, etc.
  • The front-facing camera button is at the bottom of the Camera app which makes it easier to press.
  • Viewing two tabs at once on the iPad
  • I can use 3D Touch to prioritize which apps install first. Useful for when I have 20 app updates and want to really check out a specific update or use an app that is currently blocked from being opened due to an install.
  • Being able to quickly markup photos. Makes it a lot faster to take screenshots of apps in testing when I’m checking them against my design. I can quickly annotate and return it to the developer.
  • I like the memories capability, but it has a few issues
Things I don’t like:
  • The predictive text keyboard can’t be easily hidden and shown. You have to dig into the preferences to turn it on or off. Super annoying.
  • The blue text in the predictive keyboard when in dark keyboard mode can be difficult to read.
  • Dark backgrounds are still prevalent for widgets that haven’t updated, which makes it look really inconsistent.
  • Can’t 3D Touch on Control Center top icons, which seems inconsistent. Should be able to select from a few WiFi hotspots or a list of BT devices in range.
  • Safari tabs on the iPhone often glitch so that you can’t read the titles on each tab over the background image
  • It seems like my iPhone has more trouble automatically pairing with the BT in my car than it did before the update.
  • Apple Music still shows too much crap that’s not relevant to me. I still don’t know why when I open it the first thing I see is Lady Gaga’s new album. There is no chance in hell I’ll ever listen to that, so IDK why they keep pushing it. It also keeps recommending songs more heavily based on things I bought on iTunes back in high school 10 years ago instead of what I’m currently adding and listening to.
  • Still no way to quickly change the frame rate in the slow-mo section of the Camera app, or easily switch between 1080p or 4K video. There’s a 4K label but you can’t even press it to toggle. Why not? Am I the only one who switches? Sometimes I just want to video some random crap in 1080p, and other times I want to record my kid learning to ride a tricycle in 4K so I have archival footage for years to come. I only have so much iCloud space!
  • Raise to wake took several days to get used to. I think I generally like it better now, but hated it at first. It takes a little time to reprogram the muscle memory. Then I discovered that under Accessibility you can switch on "Rest Finger to Open" which I like a lot better.
  • The memories feature is neat, but it often cuts people’s heads off. I’m not sure why it isn’t doing a smarter job at recognizing that. It will also throw in a lot of duplicates in a row sometimes.
  • The way you do facial recognition setup is really convoluted. It should guide you through it. Right now you have to tap on a photo’s "Details" button, and if it saw a face it might show up there. You have to tap on the face and then try to train it. Sometimes it will show you a bunch of photos, sometimes only a few. It never gets anywhere close to all the photos with a person’s face on the first try. You have to keep training it, and at some point it grays out.
  • I wish there was a way to
That's a lot of negatives but overall most of them are smaller things. The positives clearly outweigh the negatives. It has been very stable for me over the past week. I feel like my battery has taken a little bit of a hit, which is odd, because I've been a little busier than normal and not on my phone as much (aside from playing with it a ton the first couple days).

That's more comprehensive and useful than the professional reviews I've read.

I hardly ever notice a difference between one version of iOS and the next. They all look the same. I think the last big change I noticed and still use is the ability to put apps into folders.

Nice. Downloaded, seemed to update, did that thing where the screen goes dark. Phone looks like it's switched off / bricked.

Brilliant.

OMG, I thought I was the only one with a fu*ked up iPad Pro 9.7. Also went into recovery mode. It happen to be 2 years ago with my iPhone and crap it out when I was updating too. It turn it into a brick just when I was about to sell for the new iPhone that year

The irony of making space on your phone to download an update to remove space by deleting apple apps.
Except they never actually are deleted from your phone's storage... I tested it. I "deleted" a bunch of stock apps and then attempted to re download and install them in airplane mode and voila! Instantly they were all back. Almost as if they never actually left... o_O
