Is anyone else getting that metallic haptic click on an iPhone X? I'm curious if it's a common thing. I haven't upgraded yet and don't want to if it it could damage the haptic engine.

Only when closing control center from the bottom of the phone.

Just for Information:

The date bug just got "suppressed". If you connect your iOS device to a mac and take a look the log in the console, it will show you a warning of "Month 13 out of bounds".

MacOS and watchOS are also affected.

]Here is a list of iOS versions and the bug fixes for each version. Tell me if you notice a pattern after iOS 7? No need to say more.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_version_history#iPhone_OS_1

If memory serves me right, iOS 5 and earlier brought comparatively fewer new features compared to iOS 7 and later. I suppose that when you are doing less, you make fewer mistakes, and there are fewer bugs to show for it. Perhaps this sufficed back when smartphones were still so new and android had their fair share of problems to cancel out their sheer versatility, but in hindsight, the breakneck pace at which Apple is introducing newer features in iOS now just goes to show how far behind they were in many areas prior to ios 7 as well.

I mean, can you imagine getting share sheet extensions only in iOS 8?

I don’t think Apple can go back to the old days of gradually releasing software features. Smartphone competition is intense and that rubicon has been crossed. And if the price is the odd bug here and there, I will take it.

Never said it had too. People have a short memory about what quality Apple used to represent. Or are new to Apple and don’t know the difference. I do as do many others. As the saying goes ignorance is bliss. Enjoy your new toys.

Yes record breaking earnings do not make better products. Tim Cook is a numbers guy same as John Sculley. He too made Apple profit margins higher after steve but in the long run the products suffered. As the products are not the same as under Steve. How many new products did Apple release since his passing? One? Four years of the same design phone? Hardware on the mac side a joke?

Steves motto was to just make great products and the profits would follow. Tims Motto is to make as much profit as possible and use that to make good products, invest money where they are most profitable, and nickel and dime the customer to death by removing ports, raising prices, and selling dongles. They are making more money but they are not making better products.

Yes, I am sure the hundreds of millions of iPhone owners willingly paid more for inferior products. /s

Do you even realise the sheer irony and contradiction in your statement? People are voting with their wallets and buying Apple products in ever increasing quantities, precisely because they are great products, even after discounting the flaws and bugs and shortcomings and all.

You want to know how many new products Apple released? Last year, I purchased an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, AirPods and Apple Watch. 4 products that weren’t available when Steve Jobs was still alive.

They work great for me. I am a primary school teacher (mostly handling 11-12 year old kids).

I use my 9.7" iPad Pro to teach in the classroom, which is mirrored to the smart board via an Apple TV (3rd gen for the peer to peer AirPlay capabilities). Apple Pencil is awesome for annotating on PDF documents.

At home, I just upgraded my 2011 27" iMac to a new 5k iMac. I deal with a fair amount of spreadsheets and documents, all the more this term as I have to plan relief duties, and a larger screen just makes viewing content that much easier. It's also the family computer, which is why I don't just get a monitor and docking solution.

Also have a 4th gen ATV for entertainment.

All tied together with Siri, iCloud and Apple Music.

Maybe they aren’t better products “for you”, but for me, I am using them happily every day.

I'm still experiencing erratic touch issues on my iPhone 6s Plus. Input not recognized, have to constantly power on/off the screen for touch input to be available again. I have not replaced the screen (official Apple LCD) and at first I thought it was my tempered glass screen protector, but after taking it off and cleaning the screen, same issues. On iOS 11.2...This phone has become so unreliable now. -_-

I would try doing a fresh iOS install if you can and see if that fixes it, if you haven't done that already.

Forgot to mention, but yes, I did a reset in the system settings, and also did a full restore with the ipsw of 11.2. Same issues crop up.

why in bloody cupertino is there no widget for wifi and bluetooth completely off? going to settings every time you want to switch it off?

They must have thought more people would prefer it to be temporary. This is an example of it being good to be vocal and complain... so that we can try to persuade then to change back. Personally, I don't understand why they didn't just put a toggle option in the settings so that users could pick which behavior they prefer. We should have far more settings options than we do.

I would honestly reach out to Apple Support then and see if they can come up with any fixes, or if you have AppleCare then maybe they'll replace it.

I get it also... but you only get it if you touch the bar at the bottom and swipe up. You can avoid it by just touching anywhere on the screen aside from one of the control center buttons... which also closes the control center... with no haptic feedback.

A setting like that would introduce inconsistency between devices, which is something that Apple seems to want to avoid as much as possible.

I didn't see any information about this feature anywhere but on iOS 11.2 when you click the 'Audio' button while you're on a call it allows you to select other devices running 11.2 as a target instead of just handset/speaker/bluetooth headsets so you can continue your call on another device.

This is pretty neat and useful to me personally - I'm assuming this will be available on HomePod too. I wonder if they'll add it to the next macOS release as well.

Eh, the phone is 2 years old at this point, so I doubt they will do anything. There's a lot of threads about it:

I'm sure you've heard this before, but maybe it's time to get a new phone if you keep having issues?

Maybe. Other than the touch screen being unreliable, 6s series is still great on iOS 11. It's unfortunate.

Only when closing control center from the bottom of the phone.

I'm also having this issue when using reachability or closing up the control center from bottom down. It really makes a click-like sound that I really hope it doesn't damage the Taptic Engine or another phone component.

Also, my dad's X just lose all kind of haptic feedback with the update. No matter if the System Haptics option is on, and no matter I have already restarted it a couple of times. Fortunately my dad doesn't miss the haptic feedback on his phone.

Guess this will be another software bug to fix for Apple.

Be careful updating to iOS 11.2 if you are an app developer. As of about 9:40 AM EST, there is no new version of Xcode on the Mac App Store and the current version (Xcode 9.1) won't let me run an app on my iPhone that I just updated to 11.2.

This is the error that I get:
Could not locate device support files.
This iPhone 8 (Model A1863, A1905, A1906, A1907) is running iOS 11.2 (15C114), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode.

Hopefully, the newest version of Xcode appears soon. I should've remembered to check for a new Xcode version prior to updating. The beta likely works fine.
Apple has now released Xcode 9.2 with iOS 11.2 support to the Mac App Store (for those developers unable to test their apps over the weekend ;)).

Wow this is awful. Apple Pay Cash doesn't work. I updated and don't see anything card or anything.

Found another one. . . If the Camera App is on screen and you swipe up to the app switcher, you don't get the haptic feedback that you do when any other app is on screen. So weird!
