Erm..if I take my phone apart and fit a new battery myself I’m pretty 100% sure that’s voiding your warranty....

Or you pay 29 dollars and you get it done by Apple, you don't need Apple store you only need an Apple service provider.

It only worked for me in beta 2. Never again anymore. It looks like Apple doesn't want it to work with third party batteries.

Or they were messing with how it works and wanted to make sure it worked as best it could with batteries they could test with. I rarely attribute to malice what could easily be laziness/stupidity.

Nothing. Late night error. My only wish for this release was iCloud Messages. Sad.

No big, we all have those. I was just curious.

Wonder how much slower it might be in my iPad Mini 2 with 7.3 iOS running. I compare it against a current Mini 4 at BB and was only slightly slower or even in speed on web browser and the apps I normally use like YouTube!

So if you still have iTunes 12.6.3 you can still manually update your iPhone via a manual install of the 11.3 ispw. You can find the 11.3 ispw at https://www.unlockboot.com/download-ios-11-3-ipsw/ and then follow the manual install instructions at http://osxdaily.com/2017/09/24/install-ios-11-with-ipsw-firmware/. If you don't want to install via iTunes you can do an OTA install and still sync via 12.6.3. The initial message from Apple to upgrade iTunes seems to be Apple trying to get those of us who still need App store support in iTunes to upgrade.

I tried doing this. Once I manually updated an iPad, it would no longer sync in iTunes 12.6.3. It continuously said backup failed. I guess they changed the backup file format or its not compatible with 12.6.3 processes. So you can update without iTunes being upgraded, but if you do it doesn't look like it will sync again after.

so, is iOS11 stable by now or people still supporting on staying on iOS10?
I am tired of Apple requesting me to upgrade

I'm good with updates that add security, private, and stability. With that said, I don't know how you are being promoted to update, but I've turned off my iTune notifications and don't go into Software Updates to check for updates so the only way I find out about updates is third party sites and news stories.
There will always be people advocating one or the other. Only you can decide for yourself.

True. Keeping in mind no OS is bug-free, iOS 11 is stable, it's typically the apps that cause problems.

My encrypted computer based iTunes 12.6.3 backups are still working. I updated to 11.3 OTA yesterday instead of using the manual method listed here.

No problem, I just find the whole battery scandle a bit of a sore point. I mean my phones performance has been essentially severely limited for several months for no reason, by Apple.

Legit question (I don't visit this site much anymore and don't pay attention like I used to). My understanding was that throttling was done on certain phones in certain high power draw conditions where the battery couldn't meet the demand and it prevented a shut down. That's the kool-aid version. Did something change?

I'll test iTunes with my encrypted backups (and car USB audio) later today. I use Windows 10 and I consider backups to be very fragile. I no longer try to troubleshoot when they fail and simply delete them and create a new one. Works every time. I spent a considerable amount of time on it and folks shouldn't ignore the generic advice given when a backup fails, but none of the basics ever worked for me (different port, different cable, reboot phone, reboot computer, etc.).

macOS iTunes user here. Agree about the fragile backups. I made sure to archive and do a new complete backup yesterday of my devices before the OTA update.

This is a VERY important feature for me, given that bluetooth audio has been very unreliable for me, and USB has been absolutely perfect

Please report this to apple feedback (for all of us who need this):
https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I can't report this since I'm going to hold off upgrading given your experience.

HAS ANYONE ELSE TRIED USB AUDIO ON 11.3? Please report USB audio experiences positive or negative

Still works on an iPhone 7+ / 2015 Kia Soul. It's going to be a radio by radio issue.

Off topic: Sadly, music continues to auto-play. We've only had the Kia Soul for about a month and the auto-play wakes up the radio, even when the radio is turned off.

iOS11.0 was stable enough for daily use by beta 3 or 4.

11.3 has just made it even slicker and faster.

There's a track in Apple Music titled "A a a a a Very Good Song (Silent Track)" by Samir Mezrahi. It is 9:58 of silence, and it sorts alphabetically to the top, so when you plug your phone into your car, you get silence. Of course, you have to fix it before 10 minutes elapse, or you get surprise music.

*Question*

IOS 11.3 bug? Is anyone else experiencing Apple Maps bug where the traffic view toggles off on its own whenever the app is closed. I have to constantly toggle it back on.

You can also visit any indie repair shop. I had dropped my old iPhone 6, which I later gave to my mom when I bought the 7 Plus, causing the screen to separate from the enclosure. I snapped it back in but was worried about replacing the battery myself and breaking the phone. A local indie shop did the job for the same $29 in 15 minutes and the phone is running perfectly on 10.3.3. It just got another two years of life. My mom doesn’t need all the latest iOS 11 features nor the power of an A10 or A11. For her needs the A8 still does the job really well.

Traffic was not showing on my 7 Plus when I first opened Maps after updating. After switching to satellite and then back to Map, traffic came back and it has been working without any problems since. I guess it was just a small glitch. Otherwise I have yet to find other problems.

Thx very much for responding. Very good news to me. There’s hope now

Indie = non original parts and warranty void, Apple won't even touch the phone if it has been repaired by third party, not even if you are willing to pay, and I'm sure you don't tell that story when you sell your device.

at 29 dollars there is not excuse to not done it properly.

That iPhone 6 was bought at launch back in 2014. It has been out of warranty for a long time. I don’t sell anything. I always hand them down so I usually get 5-6 years out of every iPhone and iPad that I’ve ever purchased going back to the 3G and iPad 2. When they’re obsolete I just put them back in their original box and keep them. Also the battery on my mom’s iPhone 6 was in really bad shape. It only had about 400mAh out of 1810! It would take hours to “charge” to 100% and then drain in about an hour. I couldn’t wait until Apple restocked their battery supply. My mom had to take a charger with her everywhere making the experience a nightmare.

The only Apple product that I will only service through Apple is my late-2016 15” TB which I bought AppleCare for. It’s actually the first time I bought AppleCare for anything and that’s due to the machine being as unrepairable as it gets. I will pay for a fresh battery by December 2019 and either sell it or keep it depending on whether it still meets my needs at that point.

Also before I gave my iPhone 6 to my mom, I wiped it clean and took it to Apple on 5th Ave. to get a fresh battery at the then $79 price. They told me the battery was still good and even if it wasn’t, the enclosure was bent and I would have to pay $300 for a replacement! I paid $924 w/tax in full for this phone in 9/2014 and no way would I drop $300 on an old iPhone!

The enclosure was just fine! I’ve seen what actual bent enclosures look like. If anything it was barely visible.
