Ok. I don’t use iTunes for backups. Only iCloud. Now there is iCloud messages (which is off by default) and I was wondering if I need to turn it on in settings (settings > my name> iCloud > messages) for messages to still be included in iCloud backups.

No. 2 different things at play here.

iCloud Messages - stores all your iMessages in the "cloud", syncs across all Apple devices and once on, it's no longer in your iCloud backup (just like when you use iCloud photo library). There is no need to backup your messages twice.

If you DO NOT turn on iCloud Messages, your messages will still be included in your iCloud backup but not stored in the cloud and synced across all devices.

I updated to 11.4 and enabled iMessage in iCloud all this conected to WIFI and stayed conected for about 4 hours before leaving home, after 40 minutes under LTE I received and SMS from my provider saying that I finished the monthly data in my plan. I checked data usage with them yesterday morning and had 2.6 GB left for this billing cycle.

Anyone have a similar issue?

Not at all. It wouldn't even upload or download messages while I was connected to LTE for this exact reason.

This is one reason I turned off WiFi Assist in the Cellular settings to avoid using cellular even though I do have unlimited data.

If your carrier supports WiFi Calling, you can enable it while place it on airplane mode with WiFi.

Why am I required to enable Two-Factor Authentication for Messages in iCloud? With 8 apple devices, it is a royal pain.
Should be a choice vice requirement since my messages never contain sensitive info. Another "Apple Knows Best".

Under WiFi I saw in iMessages all a progress bar for the iMessage sync. It finished when I was on WiFi. I don’t know what happened. This should be a bug.

Why does this surprise you? You didn't think the data being uploaded to iCloud would count against your data plan? No one but you knows what you might have sitting in your iMessages.

Should have completed the upload on WiFi, if you were going to allow it at all.

The progress bar inside the iMessages app showed it finished when I was conected to WiFi.

My phone shows that WiFi assist only used 673 kbs

Your AP Express physically can't handle Airplay 2. It doesn't have the hardware for it. The only reason it works from iTunes is because iTunes can create multiple Airplay 1 streams but if your iPhone did this then your battery would be dead in no time.

It's not a money grab in the slightest. The AP Express has 64MB of RAM (which for reference is half of what the original iPhone had). It's almost certainly physically impossible to run the AP Express OS and to do Airplay 2 - since Airplay 2 requires the output device to store 'minutes' of audio in RAM whereas Airplay 1 only needed seconds of audio storing in RAM (big difference).

1. I didn't even mention AirPort.
2. If it can work from the Mac to multiple Airplay 1 devices, what is the limitation stopping the phone from doing the same? If it's a power issue, then allow it to work if the phone is plugged in.

I just realised that you need to use two factor authentication to use Messages in the Cloud... I really don’t want to use that but have been looking forward to using messages in the cloud. Would it work to turn on 2 factor and enable messages in the cloud and then then turn off 2 step?

NO because : « You can't turn off two-factor authentication for some accounts created in iOS 10.3 or macOS Sierra 10.12.4 and later.« cf:Apple

Oops, my bad! Mixed you up with the other poster.

I’m happy they have finally implemented messages in iCloud but I don’t understand why I have to be connected to WiFi and have my device connected to power for the messages to be uploaded. At least give us the option of using mobile data.

This is only for the initial upload/download as it could be multiple GBs for a lot of people

2FA doesn't work like that. It protects your account, so if you want to change sensitive settings such as passwords or if you want to login to iCloud.com on an unknown device you need to have your iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch to hand to receive a code.

Apple's implementation of 2FA is also pretty user friendly once it is setup.

They are calling it 2FA but they are asking for a passcode, so you can discuss the semantics of what that actually means with Apple. From my experience enabling the passcode (which they are requiring for 2FA) then puts me in a situation where every time the device locks or sleeps to have to enter it when waking or unlocking the device. No thanks. These devices live in my home and do not need the security. It is terribly annoying to have to d*k around every time I want to use the device. What I would like is a feature something like 'disable lock screen' that actually just comes out of sleep straight into whatever screen it was in before sleep with no authentication whatsoever.

It demands a passcode once.

Once a passcode is enabled it will demand it every time the device goes to the lock screen which happens whenever it goes to sleep. It also requires it every time the device is powered on.

That’s not 2FA...

Here is info on 2FA
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204915

If you’re talking about a passcode for the phone itself, use Touch ID or Face ID. Anything that supports 11.4 has either Touch ID or Face ID.

Not sure why you’re wouldn’t use Touch ID or a passcode to protect your phone.

Because I don't want to hassle with it every time I turn the thing on or wake it up.

No it doesn’t.

You’re confusing 2FA with having a lock screen. Also, modern iPhones have this thing called biometric authentication. You may want to try it.

I did use it for awhile but ultimately it slows me down and is more of a hassle then having no passcode or touchid or lock screen. I am not confusing 2FA with a lock screen, Apple has made either touchid or passcode a requirement for 2FA which causes me to have to hassle around with the lock screen. A requires B causes C.
