From what I have observed on here, I am surprised there hasn't been more forum member fanfare over the iMessage Cloud release in iOS 11.4 Maybe forum member opinions are still syncing to the opinion cloud.

Yeah i dont get it either UNLESS you can finally use iMessage in a web browser via iCloud web. I cant imagine this will ever happen as Windows users could then message people without a Mac.
I don’t like it because iMessages are now in the cloud, I”d rather they not leave my device.

You are imagining the sender has all of your public keys and sends to each one. This isn't true. Apple sends to each one. You adding a device or three doesn't send the public keys to everyone on your contact list.

I get that you aren't comfortable contemplating the consequences of this design. But it is true.

I think you are wrong and @neliason is correct. At least according to this actual Apple security document, which clearly states iMessage is encrypted end-to-end.

In short, @neliason is correct: Every device has a public key which Apple keeps in a directory. When a user sends a message the sending device retrieves all the public keys for the recipient from Apple's directory and encrypts the message for each device and sends it--encrypted--through Apple's servers to deliver to the device(s). Apple cannot decrypt the message (or messages if this is a single message being send to mulitple devices), only the receiving device(s) with the appropriate private key can.

That being said... There is nothing stopping Apple from providing additional public keys to the sender's device (i.e. keys that are not from devices the recipient owns) and thereby intercept the message or have it send to someone else. There is a certain level of trust in Apple involved in this. But it doesn't change that neliason is correct in his understanding of how iMessage was designed.

So far I’ve found 11.4 to be a good improvement over 11.3 especially on my aging iPad Air. It no longer feels sluggish right after booting up. I would have to wait about a minute before it was actually usable. This is no longer the case.

Airplay 2 seems like a nice feature but unfortunately I don’t have a need to stream to different devices at the same time. At least HomePod owners can now use two of them the way they were meant to be used.

But the deletes didn't. So I would have to delete the one time code sent from my bank, for instance, on all 4 i devices and on the laptop.

Or the weather alerts.
Or the texts about package delivered.

It still doesn't delete off my Mac when I delete it from my phone. This feature seems half baked.

Um ... Guys ....

2FA is no longer working!

I enabled 2FA roughly 2 months ago and since then it's always send me a code when I sign into iCloud.com.

2PM EST today I updated iOS on my primary phone - the line that has 2FA enabled (SE)
3PM EST today I updated iOS on my work phone - not associated with iMessags nor it's mobile number with 2FA; however signing into icloud for the past month WOULD show up a code on BOTH devices.
9:50PM EST I updated WatchOS today ...

TVOS not updates yet soon.

I tried to download a free app on iOS - iPhone SE (primary and Touch ID did not work, yet it's enabled I had to type in my password for iCloud/AppStore ... which is usual after initial time of iOS update and reboot and unlocking iPhone.

12:39AM EST (May 30th) iCloud.com did NOT prompt for 2FA ... nor did Messages is listed in iCloud so I immediately logged out.

Anyone else not getting 2FA Codes after today's update?

WARNING! Activating iOS 11.4 Messages in iCloud has deleted ALL of my messages. And restoring my iPhone from the 11.3 backup broke the messages app (can't send/receive or view any messages). I've done 8 restores/reinstalls and various rebuilds in attempt to get my messages back and/or the messages app simply working and the only solution is a clean 11.4 iOS install.

Might you be talking about 11.4 and 11.3?

I’ve never deleted iMessages, preferring to keep an archive of everything I’ve ever talked about with the people in my circle and photos and files we’ve shared. It’s come in handy many times.

The downside was that it took up quite a bit of local space. I’m looking forward to having all of that backed up in the cloud and freeing the space on my iPhone.

^^
THIS. Never delete messages. Texting isn't throwaway for me; it matters and I want a record of it. So handy to look up somebody's address from a year ago or a picture they shared with me.
Having message deletion syncing across devices is HUGE. I do (obviously) delete google verification texts, and it's a chore to delete it from both my iPhone and two Macs.
Also I've been seeing a few iMessages lately not get delivered to each device, so one decide is just missing part of the conversation. Syncing should fix this!
VERY cool update to have it cloud based.

I picked up a second HomePod today at Costco ($329.99, Space Gray only). Set it up on the bedroom. I updated my iPhone, HomePod Kitchen and HomePod Bedroom to iOS 11.4.

Then the HUGE disappointment began.

All this time waiting for AirPlay 2 and HomePod is PATHETICALLY unable to do the basic commands that a SONOS ONE (or Amazon Echo Dot connected to other SONOS models) can do with ease.

I got some Sinatra playing in the Kitchen just by touching the top of the Kitchen HomePod (that was the last thing it was playing). Then I walked to the bedroom and said, "Hey Siri, play Neil Diamond in the Kitchen". That worked fine.

While I was still in the Bedroom, I said, "Hey Siri, play Frank Sinatra in the Bedroom". Sinatra started playing in the Bedroom. Then I walked back to the Kitchen and that HomePod had paused. I then said (in the Kitchen), "Hey Siri, resume playback in the Kitchen". Siri's response: "Now resuming in the Bedroom".

The Bedroom wasn't paused.

Then I tapped the top of the Kitchen HomePod to try to resume playback of Sinatra. It played something completely different, apparently at random.

It DOES work if you say "Hey Siri, play Sinatra everywhere." But I could do that with AirPlay 1 from my iMac.

This is totally pathetic. I've waited all this freaking time for HomePod to have similar functionality to Alexa with SONOS and HomePod doesn't even come close. Freaking failure!

I will be returning HomePod #2 to Costco. If I could return HomePod #1 to the Apple Store, I would.

I should have bought SONOS ONEs.

OMG, I miss Steve Jobs!

Total FAIL, Apple.

Does Messages in the Cloud take my entire history of convos on my Mac and merge them with my iPhone? If I close out of a convo on my Mac does it delete from my iPhone?

And with AirPlay 2... Not all speakers support it.

A) As long as you enable iMessage in the Cloud? Yes.
B) True. But there’s a list out there that you can look at.

Messages in Cloud and Airplay 2 are anything but tiny features, engineering-wise. Not defending Apple, but Messages is not "Hangouts", it's an end-to-end encrypted service, and Airplay is even worse. From the things I read (John Grubers "birdies"), they had serious technical problems with these things and it took quite a bit of effort to get them to work.
Sorry, but multiroom (cross!!!platform) audio is something, that other smaller companies like spotify (connect) or sonos offer since years. And it think WhatsApp. Telegram, Skype, WeChat and more are offering edt-to-end cross(!!!)-platform messengers since years.
So whats the point for apple to announce (tiny) features iOS features and deliver one year later?
Just ridiculous.

Corporations get bloated too. Just like software that hasn’t been streamlined.

WooHooo. We now have what was announced at WWDC 2018. Now it's just 5 days to go for WWDC 2018 and I can't wait to hear what we are going to get in another year.:D

I'm seeing very frequent and random bluetooth disconnects after the update. I'm using a 8 Plus with the BeatsX and I'm now losing the bluetooth connection every couple of minutes in the middle of songs or videos. I have to manually reconnect which helps for a short time until it disconnects again.... and yes both the iPhone and the BeatsX are fully charged.

Don't you think it's worth calling AppleCare and at least give Apple a chance to respond? Also, I'd suggest rechecking your setup to make sure it's not something like a typo in the room names in your Home setup or something.

If you've waited for this feature then at least have a few more attempts to solve the problem before giving up. For example, have you tried talking to Siri on your iPhone to get her to play music in the different rooms rather than talking to the HomePod? That might indicate if it's a recognition problem or an actual language intent problem. Also, I think it highly likely that Siri will feature heavily in WWDC as it's clearly an area that Apple need to focus on and they know it!

I've only got one HomePod so far but it's quite likely I'll be picking up another one after the summer when I'm more likely to be in the house more. Looking forward to the challenges of getting it working smoothly! :)

Seriously. If it works like iCloud photos it’ll work great. iCloud photos has a note of when it’s sync’d. Would be nice for iCloud messages.

I don't appear to have any sort of indicator that the transition is complete, but if I dig into Settings > iCloud > Manage Storage, Messages is indeed there, saying it's taking up 5.3gb. Soooo... yeah, I guess it works like iCloud Photos. :)
