Apple Releases iOS 12.1 With eSIM Support, Real-Time Depth Control, Group FaceTime, New Emoji and More

Where exactly do you think Verizon "lied" to its customers.. Verizon never said anything directly related to dual sim...
ive watched you in some other threads and your bitterness towards Verizon is absolutely silly and im having a hard time keeping quiet... ... setting hard dates on a feature or you'll switch carriers.. Run off to AT&T and enjoy the worse service and customer service you'll get.. you'll come crawling back to Verizon with you head hanging low eventually.

You are out of your mind with respect to Verizon. There service is the worst of the 4 major carriers. I have had both Verizon and AT&T and will NEVER EVER go back to Verizon. I will also concur with the fellow you quoted. I never got a straight answer from Verizon on any customer service request I made. Really a very poorly run company with at best, subpar service.

took me 20 minutes -- from download to full install on my Xs, seems faster on WiFi now to test the cell signal outside which always is week (and never failed on 12.0 or 12.0.1 for me just 1-2 bars which is what all my iPhones see here at house

UPDATE: WiFI strong (never as bad as most though with this Xs). But first thing different is that I have seen (on X also) mostly 1-2 bars at my house. Its now running (in house 2-3 of the 4 bars) so wondering if it did indeed improve things for me in cell area. Hopefully so I had used Wifi for many years and iPhone versions to supplement the poor AT&T signal in my side of town (Note Verizon not good here either). I had hoped what I read indicated the Xs series would give me better in low signal areas (it goes like crazy in full four bars of LTE already before this update) Well will keep testing

My X ended up taking about 30 minutes to update start to finish. It was strange how the 1 and 2 hour timing for download showed on the X, but my old iPad Air was 29 minutes initially, then it sped up considerably and was done downloading way before the X. The iPad did finish first, although it slowed down once it was installing the update.

Now to just pine over the new iPad Pro's and figure out whether I should upgrade to one of those or the new MacBook Air. I had a 2011 MBA 13" that was my favorite computer to date (stepson is still using it for university) and now with the retina screen and speed improvements, I think it's certainly better for my needs than updating my 2013 rMBP 15" with a new MBP.

Yeah the new Ipad pros are tempting. My MacBooks fine for now, but my old 12.9 iPad Pro is gettting long in tooth and these are indeed tempting if I had the money

Hi all, and what about the beta testers? Is the public 12.1 the same version that ios 12.1 beta 5 or? Can i remove the beta tester profile and install the public 12.1? Thank you

"Adds a performance management feature to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down, including the option to disable this feature if an unexpected shutdown occurs, for iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus"

Sounds like:

We are re-introducing our throttling code again and we are super clear about now, on iPhone 8 and X we may have used garbage batteries again. You have to upgrade.

I have iPhone 6s on iOS 12, do I really need to update to 12.1? It seems this update is for the newer phones.

One AT&T store acted like I had no clue what I was talking about. The other I went to had the eSIM cards in stock, but received a notice from HQ that they are on hold until they resolve an issue with VVM that can have a 'negative impact on the customer experience' and that it is on hold until that is resolved. They expect it in 2 weeks.

I removed the beta profile SU ota shows iOS 12 not 12.1.

Thanks - after removing the profile, it updated again to 12.1 (although it said 12) and didn't want to update again. I went over to the ATT store and showed them the thread. They tickled their keyboard asked me for $5 plus tax and I'm now on AT&T eSIM, my SIM tray is empty and ready for my next international trip! Thanks to all who contributed to the thread and got me over the goal line!

I really do not understand why the depth control is only available to the iPhones with A12 chip. Why not on iPhone X? It certainly cannot be the computing power as the A12 is not much faster than A11.

The A12 Neural Engine is 8.333 times faster than the A11 Neural Engine... and that’s the component used for the real time depth control.

Dang, FaceID is noticeably slower on my launch day X. Updated via IPSW, rebooted a couple times, and with 63/256GB available, I'm still baffled.

Why couldn’t they have just given all iPhone X/Xs the newer wallpapers?

I know this is a couple days old... but why does anyone *care*? You always have new branding to differentiate product A from product B.

Download the wallpapers if you want them, the images are all over the net.

- Improves cellular connectivity for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR

Well, not for me, it's actually worse. This also goes for my Wi-Fi strength. I was getting 3 bars for wi-fi, now, I only get 2 and sometimes if changes to 1 bar. This is not an improvement. So far, I am disappointed with the Xs Max and if I could, I would return it, but I traded in my 7+ becuase all I heard from everyone was how "GREAT" this phone is. I am still waiting for the "GREATNESS" to show up.

I appreciate your opinion but it isn’t the live wallpapers. Well, I take that back, I’ve found the live ones, just not quite sure the workaround for getting them over to my iPhone. Do you happen to have a tutorial link please?
