The journal app just being on the phone really does sum up the Apple of today
Exactly. Who wants to type a daily journal in an iPhone when you have an iPad and an iMac? But those latter two don't have the app. I just deleted the app on my iPhone. No thank you. Who are these kids who run Apple?

Well, it also took Apple quite a while to finally have a classical music app optimised for the iPad, so it may well just be as you said. It probably doesn't take that much effort to get it done, and the developers at Apple may also have a hundred other things to scratch off their to-do list, each also maybe taking a couple of hours to resolve, so it's really a case of competing priorities.

That said, I just created a new journal entry about my morning run, and the app was able to suggest a snapshot of the route I took, together with the distance and time (indicating it is able to tap onto other sources of system data like fitness). Data which the iPad doesn't have access to (the fitness app on my iPad just has a popup stating that fitness+ isn't available in my region), so another possible explanation is that there isn't an iPad journal app because the iPad doesn't have access to the full range of data that the phone has.

But it's probably just a matter of time. It would be nice to be able to look back at my journal entries on a larger display one day. :)
And maybe annotate them with your own hand. Or add pictures you drew. With an Apple Pencil on that iPad. Or write more about it using a keyboard on their iPad or Mac. And use some of it populate a web page. The list goes on. Hopefully it'll expand beyond the most cramped of authoring spaces.

Syncing via usb between my iphone 13 and my macbook pro seems to be broken, or at best takes so long that it appears broken. It's getting stuck at (Step2 of 5) - Preparing to sync - I've let it go 15 minutes at that stage before giving up, 3 times now, with reboots in between attempts. Macbook Pro is on Sonoma 14.2.
Edit: Tried another cable. Same problem.

Edit: Syncing via wifi works. I haven't used wifi for syncing in a long time, but maybe I have to revisit it - hopefully it works better now than it used to.

An old man named Tim, I guess he didn’t grew up. He’s starting wanting to be conscious now with writing a diary. Was I mean now?
Would be a massive downgrade at the moment. Day One has quite a few more features.
Exactly, but a big understatement.

The iPhone is the computer you have on you at all times, so it makes sense to target the 1 billion iPhones in circulation. I also imagine there's some value in being able to type spontaneously about the vacation you are at, or what breakfast you are having, or as and when the inspiration strikes you.

The more I think about it, I suspect the purpose of the journaling app is all about reducing the friction entailed in journaling, so as to help the user better organise their thoughts and activities, rather than enforcing a particular structure. It also helps to offload the Notes app, which is fast becoming a catch-all basin for random thoughts, ideas and lists.

As I created my first journal entry today (no idea if the habit will stick), I thought it was cool how my iPhone could populate entries automatically using data from my Apple devices and services. There's no need to type "went for a run in the morning" when my phone was able to come to that conclusion on its own.

No doubt the journal app feels pretty basic right now, and I feel that's intentionally by design. Nothing standing in between the user and him creating an entry, and Apple is also in a position to offer a better all-around experience because the first-party app is tightly integrated with other Apple devices and services. Probably good enough for 80% of iPhone users, and the rest here who want something more have access to a wealth of third-party choices in the App Store. :)

Maybe it's your Wifi?

On my iPhone 15 I routinely get 800 to 900 Mb/sec, with no lagging or stalls.
Yes, if I was stupid. Off course I would not make a statement like that if all other devices connected to my wifi behaved the same. None of them does. They work perfectly fine. Only my iPhone has this issue, and there are reports on the matter online. Ah well, 17.2 doesn’t seem to fix it. Guess I will just continue using my cellular network. Hurrayh for iOS 17!

Time to have Apple repair your iPhone?

WiFi on my iPhone 15PM works great under iOS 17.2

Journal app is pathetic - no tags, no search, no way to import/export, no time stamping, no formatting, I mean seriously all this time to create this app it looks to be in alpha stages. Even the notes app has become my goto journalling app because I can import easily and supports tags and even SIRI. This journal app is just trash at the moment.
pretty disappointed about the journal app which received quite good reviews for its prompts and suggestions.

apart from not offering a way to share (note, page) nor export (print to pdf), the worst of all is, while the app could allow writing for a custom date, the prompts and suggestions would not follow up. say, i would like to write journals of some days back, e.g. the trip in this summer, i was not prompted for the photos of the selected dates, nor offered suggestions according to the travelled locations.

all in all, the journal app is simply the note app extended with prompting some cards, said to be end-to-end encrypted.

so, i wonder why the journal comes to ios as a separate app rather than an extension to the mighty little note app. apparently, apple would like to make it like a seperate response to managing mindfulness!

Better telephoto lens performance on 15 Pro Max will be great. Also good to see more options for the Action Button. Have currently set it to run a shortcut

hey guys, do you find any undocumented bug fix?

the following obvious bugs are still outstanding:

- groceries list - sorted pesticides to "sauce & condiments";
- failed to name a newly created facetime link (possible in ios16, but does not work in ios17)

a named facetime link is crucial as it makes possible to facetime android users starting from ios 16.

They may be thinking that there is a higher likelihood that Apple customers will have their iPhone with them, rather than their iPad, and it’s easier to journal-as-you-go throughout their day.
So why not have it available for ALL devices, as they did with that pointless app they labeled "Freeform"?

You’ll have to ask Apple. For all we know Apple could be working on that as we speak. Most iPhone users know that Apple takes their sweet time with things and they could be working on integrating it into iPadOS so that it works well with the Apple Pencil (maybe a basic artists canvas perhaps) and larger screen sizes.

I had the same problem with the iphone se3.

You can open activity monitor and kill the process MDCrashReportTool and then the sync will resume and proceed to completion.

Others have suggested to turn off apple watch/wifi and bluetooth and turn on aeroplane mode like at and https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/odd-syncing-issue-of-15-pro-max-to-macbook-air.2406326/

1)Watch app still buggy, every time I close it from the multitasking, it reloads all the watch faces on iPhone 15 Pro.
2)The keyboard input is better now, even if sometimes the click sound continues not to be perfectly synced when I tap.
3)They still forgot to add "Forget username and password" option in AirPrint printers (it was there in iOS 16)

My assessment of the Journal app. Seeing that I was excited for this, I’m quite disappointed. It’s clean, but really barebones.
First of all, there’s no way (or I haven’t found a way) to edit the suggestions for the app after the initial setup.
Second, since this app is not on iPad or Mac what you write is stuck in the app without a way to export/share it.
Lastly, there’s no search and organisation functionality. How’s that even possible?!

adding to the above, no way to record/share/export the journals, and the most of all, when writing for some days back, the prompts and suggestions are not in sync with the selected dates!
