That was my initial thought, lol. But - I dunno... I'd like to give it a go, although I'm just not sure what I'd put it it!

My mum passed away a few months back. Maybe that'll prompt something. Especially with Christmas not far off. And I have a new grandson, too! So... maybe I'll keep the app for a bit and have a play :)
Or for sure it will be useful to a lot of people, just not for me. I have never kept a journal or diary in my 52 years lol.

I don’t get what you’re talking about?

Providing an app for the iPhone AND the iPad isn’t some amazing idea that I just came up with today
It depends on what is planned in the iPad port. What I am saying is you can't assume that a journal app GUI would be the same for a iPhone and a iPad. A iPad app usually has a little more depth for menus then a iPhone app because of a iPads larger screen. I was using the Classical app example as how Apple is tailoring app for specific OS's/usage. It might just be that they are gathering feedback on what people want with the iPhone before the delve into a iPad version. There are way more iPhone users out there than iPad users, so that might also have some weight on why one and not two OS's supported for the app. :)

Journal app is pathetic - no tags, no search, no way to import/export, no time stamping, no formatting, I mean seriously all this time to create this app it looks to be in alpha stages. Even the notes app has become my goto journalling app because I can import easily and supports tags and even SIRI. This journal app is just trash at the moment.
They're only worth about US$3T. They probably don't have the resources to do the project correctly.

Has anyone else's iPhone become super slow updating iOS/apps since 17.1.1? It took 30-40 min "preparing" for 17.1.2 a few weeks ago, and now with 17.2 it's been at it for almost an hour now...

Putting together the folder hierarchy for the update likely takes longer with a bigger update. Plus, how much has been firmware updates lately?

App updates have been speedy for me.

It seems the Game Center notification that pops up when you start a Game Center enabled game is now persistent, and doesn't go away after 3 fresh starts like it used to. Remember Game Center? Apparently apple is desperate for people to use it again.

Here's hoping this Medications app bug is fixed with 17.2.

Prior to iOS 17, when I was wearing my Apple Watch, the alert from the Medications app used to sound on my Apple Watch. Since iOS 17, WatchOS 10, I get the sound alert from the Medications app sounding on my iPhone first, and then 15 seconds or so later I get the alert on my Apple Watch.
Still isn't fixed 🤬🤬

Not even iOS 17 itself took this long though, and I never saw this prior to 17.1.1... My 2018 iPad Pro prepared the update in 10-15 min, before 17.1.1 my iPhone 13 used to be even quicker than that. The installation part of app updates are also randomly slower. Sometimes they're pretty quick(not as fast as before), now it can take over a minute for a single app to install.

Is there iTunes Store app still on 17.2 ? I heard it was going away... is that true?

Still there, but now crippled:

An excellent way to start the morning. Wake up at 5 am, and start updating my various devices while washing up and preparing for my run. Now cooling off and uodating my watch. Think I will get round to playing around with the journal app after I shower.

The counterpoint is - do you really want the journal app to be so good that it completely kills the market for third party journaling apps?

I’m an IOS developer. I could make the Journal app into an iPad app in a couple of hours. It’s an extremely simple app and it would hardly be any work to make into an iPad app. The decision to make it iPhone only is a deliberate one on Apple’s part.

I can now place iPad widgets anywhere on the screen. Has it always been like this?

They may be thinking that there is a higher likelihood that Apple customers will have their iPhone with them, rather than their iPad, and it’s easier to journal-as-you-go throughout their day.
It's not like it would be hard to port it to iPad since it's you know... The same underlying system. Plus a journaling app on an I pad with pen support makes much more sense than on a phone.

Journal app feedback here. The iPad release, even if embryonic, was a serious miss. If you have your iPad sat beside you, particularly with a Magic Keyboard as a personal device then it's got to be the go to over the iPhone... Particularly if you aren't sat next to a Mac (sadly) on some days.
Agreed. It should be on all devices, especially as it’s in iCloud.

But don’t worry - no one’s going to use it..

Well, it also took Apple quite a while to finally have a classical music app optimised for the iPad, so it may well just be as you said. It probably doesn't take that much effort to get it done, and the developers at Apple may also have a hundred other things to scratch off their to-do list, each also maybe taking a couple of hours to resolve, so it's really a case of competing priorities.

That said, I just created a new journal entry about my morning run, and the app was able to suggest a snapshot of the route I took, together with the distance and time (indicating it is able to tap onto other sources of system data like fitness). Data which the iPad doesn't have access to (the fitness app on my iPad just has a popup stating that fitness+ isn't available in my region), so another possible explanation is that there isn't an iPad journal app because the iPad doesn't have access to the full range of data that the phone has.

But it's probably just a matter of time. It would be nice to be able to look back at my journal entries on a larger display one day. :)

The Journal app needs to examine all the iPhone data like photos iMessage and call logs and build a journal of each day and then you fill in the blanks.

You’re absolutely right, I keep forgetting about the Apple Pencil. With the keyboard and the Apple Pencil, you’d think that the Journal app would have come to the iPad first. Who knows, maybe Apple is actually working on integrating the Apple Pencil directly into the Journal app, and the iPad will get it soon.
