After FaceId authenticates that it’s really me, my iPhone might show me pictures I had deleted.
Meh.
Exactly. A lot of cringe for the supposed bug that would be that pics appeared in other people's devices after having sold them. Rumors that were taken for facts.

It comes down to this: if you trusted Apple with your photos before, why wouldn't you trust it after it showed YOU some pics you deleted earlier on.

Is there any indication of how old the reappearing pics were at most? That would make it easier to judge the winging and whining about 'Apple keeps what I deleted'.

No, Apple healed the DB in 17.5. The DB being healed was the cause of the reappearing photos, in other words the DB healing was a bug fix which led to another bug which caused deleted photos to reappear. The DB never “magically healed”
Did Apple identify where this magic db is located?
Where in the 17.5 release notes is the magical db‘s corruption healed?
How fortunate Apple’s magic db can be spontaneously corrupted on the user’s device but only impact photos but everyone’s device can be miraculously repaired with a magical release.

Apple‘s believes their customers all have intellectual hernias.

Apple today released iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1, minor updates to the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 operating system updates that came out last September. The 17.5.1 updates come a week after the launch of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5.

iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1 can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, the updates include a fix for an issue that could cause images to reappear in the Photos library even after being deleted. There have been several complaints from iPhone and iPad users who saw their old, deleted photos resurfacing after installing the iOS 17.5 update. Images deleted as far back as 2010 were surfacing again, leading to confusion and worry over what was going on. Apple's information today indicates that it was a database corruption issue, and iOS 17.5.1 should solve the problem.

What is most concerning of all is the fact that Apple prides themselves with their “most protective privacy policies” and they been able to access your DELETED photos at any point. 🤬

why, what are you hiding lol
i think most people were just scared if their significant other would find out
I’m not hiding anything. I just was considering upgrading my iPad and didn’t want anything left over for the new owner to see. It was nothing embarrassing.

If what Apple says is true then it really highlights how garbage they are in handling databases. Time Machine, Spotlight, Photos, Mail, and probably more all routinely get corrupted. Outlook uses Spotlight for search and it slowly starts corrupting almost immediately after rebuilding it, and common search words stop finding anything.
