Missing the point my friend....I would like to see this info without having to swipe or ever have to go to the home screens...have visibility from any screen. The notifier bar is there....lets use it like we do for the stupid bluetooth icon!

as i said, can see sms without swiping. i'm really not that lazy i need notifications for every little thing.....

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C134 Safari/6533.18.5)

Anything specific you'd like to see? I can certainly post screens, but the thing I was focusing on is the Airplay and volume portion of the multitasking bar, which is pretty boring to look at and has been posted (I believe) a couple of times already. I think Airplay is the biggest and most under commented on aspect of this update, especially once the ATV gets it's update and we see what can be done with video.

Airplay is the thing I am most interested in ... i dont own an ipad..... ever since i discovered rhapsody... I dont buy any music from Itunes... what for? ... I really want for every app to work with airplay .. not just Apple Apps.

Im a big netflix and rhapsody user.

"as I said" ain't gonna get it yo!

Show me how you will see SMS messages are awaiting (say whilst googling) without swiping unless you are lucky enough to have it showing up on the tray after a "home push" given no other apps are "open"...think thru stuff before you play John Wayne...

Lol show me how you would google whilst the screen is locked as that was the scenario I was discussing....

Plus you answered your own point, whilst googling you'd get the notification, so you'd see how many SMS you on the go and you'd see from the home screen how many you had waiting already...

So who is the one that needs to think stuff through? :)
Thanks for illustrating my point. :)

What are they waiting for? How long does it take to place this on a server and say go?

they usually give it a week after GM release to public release, as devs have to test their apps and then submit them so they get released with the public release of 4.2. also one last chance to check the bugs from the betas are fixed.

its not a random delay, its scheduled, like always.

Not only that. Apple won't release it till Mac OS X 10.6.5 and itunes 10.1 are ready. AirPrint won't work without them and knowing Apple they will first release these updates and then a day or two after, they will release iOS 4.2.

thats a very good point, i wonder if 10.6.5 and itunes 10.1 will be monday and 4.2 wednesday..... or just one a day for monday to wednesday...

Yeah, then as near as I can tell you'd be all set. I don't use either rhapsody or netflix much, but you can stream (audio only for now) from every app I've tried so far. This is all iPhone BTW.

No, that makes no sense on an iDevice. WiFi persistence is a key feature to get things like push notifications, e-mail alerts, SMS messages etc, while the device is in sleep mode. That's not going to change.

'Makes no sense on an iDevice.'??? It makes sense if the user would rather have the battery life than the alerts etc. What I'm asking for is an option. In any event you are probably right that it won't happen.

Well it is supposed to stay connected to the network looking for email and push notifications.

I don't care about those. Once it goes into standby I'm not looking for the notifications. I'll pull it out of standby when I want to check the email.
