For those reporting their devices are bricked:

You can't download an older iOS version and flash that to your device? I thought you could force iDevices into a recovery mode for things like this.

If you can get it into recovery mode, then it shouldn't be bricked.

I was having the error 1013 problem, it ended up I had to edit my HOSTS file (run notepad.exe as administrator), and remove the gs.apple.com line (it didn't appear to work by just commenting out the line).

Ahh, so I guess these devices really aren't bricked. Still, I expect a lot of people will take a trip to the genius bar.

I spent 3 hours of my evening doing the update, what a terrible use of time. I wish the update was simple and easy. The steps to update are a spectacular waste time
  1. Download iTunes update
  2. Backup the phone
  3. Download the OS update
  4. Install fails (when will Apple fix iTunes, have this happening for the past 3 updates.
  5. Try another computer
  6. Download iTunes update
  7. Backup the phone
  8. Download OS update
  9. Install successful
  10. Restore from backup
  11. Sync all the apps
  12. Re-create the folders and organize the apps

This process is very un-Apple like.

The update failing obviously isn't planned by Apple, restoring it seems a given (but I thought it would redownload all your apps anyway, like in webOS). Weird to be that a backup doesn't save your folder configuration though.

The update took me no more than the time it took to download the software and then install it to the phone. Not that that information helps you in anyway, I'm just making a statement.

From Tesco to...

Yeah looks like Tesco either have nuked the service.. or they havnt updated yet... if I dont get personal hotspot from Tesco then soon as my contracts over so will be custom to them..

I too am on Tesco Mobile (they are cheap for minutes & SMS) but with no Visual Voicemail and no HotSpot support, I'm seriously thinking of moving away.

Is anyone (in the UK) on the Three's 'The One' plan? Can they confirm if HotSpot is supported?

With thanks,

FireArse

Maybe you were holding the iphone wrong while you were doing it!

What happened to the 4.3 multi-touch gestures?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvxSSGUtTYA

Take a look at this: http://www.tipb.com/2011/03/04/daily-tip-enable-ipad-multitasking-gestures-ios-43

No jailbreaking needed. I enabled the multi-touch gestures on my iPad last night. Unfortunately, I could not get the multi-touch gestures enabled on my iPod Touch 4G. It appears that it will require a jailbreak which I have no plans on doing. Just hope Apple does not remove the code in the next iOS update.

Personal Hotspot on Factory Unlocked iP4 using TMO-USA

Hi all:
I am confirming that on my Factory-Unlocked iPhone 4 running T-Mobile USA (Albeit Edge data), I can get all (3) personal hotspot functions up and running (USB, Bluetooth, and WiFi). So people can now tap into my Edge Data from their computers, laptops, or iPads.

Personal hotspot in the Netherlands (t-mobile NL)?

Hi,

Just updated (iPhone 4, T-Mobile NL), but I cannot see the option to enable the hotspot -- any idea if it's blocked in the Netherlands?

Mine does not show (AT&T US) either. I have to go to Settings, General, Network...there I see 'set up personal hotspot'

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it but autocorrect seems way better in iOS 4.3.

<checks for errors before posting>

Can anyone tell me what app to use in order to stream my iTunes library to my iPad ? I have looked in iPod app , remote and the video app. In remote I can see the library I want to use and can control that library but not watch it however in the other apps I can not see my iTunes library.

Thanks in advance

After turning on Home Sharing, go into iTunes and under Preferences, go to Sharing, turn on Movies, TV. etc.

I could only play music from my MBP until I discovered this, now I can stream movies too. Nice bonus, as my 32GB iPhone 4 can't hold all my movies, although I'd rather watch them on my MBP or on my Apple TV.

Unfortunately I have Apple TV 1, although all my computer content in iTunes is on the Apple TV 1's harddrive, but I can't stream from iPhone to TV, although now that I think about it, I can control it with remote, and it's all on the hard drive, so I guess I don't need to. Forgive my rambling.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but I noticed something new (i think) in the update. First of all, it seems like the Cal colors now match between OS X and iOS.

Also, when adding an event, you can specify invites and availability.

video over airplay much slower now

installed ios 4.3 on my iphone4... installed new firmware on my appletv2

video streaming over airplay now is extremely slow if it works at all...before updating i could almost instant stream slideshows and videos

not good

IPhone 4

I have the Verizon Iphone, and I have tried to update my phone three times. It keeps saying my phone has the latest software, I currently running 4.2.6 (8E200). Is this the 4.3 update release???

This release is not for the Verizon iPhones.

Sometimes an iTunes update from version to version will even rewrite your HOSTS file in anticipation of these problems.

I updated my iPad yesterday, and discovered that my point to Saurik's servers had already been #'d out by 10.2.1(1).
