Son of a . . . I can upgrade. It is stuck at the restore process. It downloads the update, then the screen on the iPhone4 shows the Apple logo with the restore status bar.

iTunes shows 'Restoring iPhone Software...', then right at the end I get this pop up message in iTunes, 'The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013).'

I've tried restarting my MBP, hard resetting the iPhone, and disabling all security software and I keep getting the same error message.

When I click more information about the error, I am brought to this site - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

Anyone know if this will update the baseband on iPhone 4?

No Airplay for me :(

recently upgraded my broadband to adsl2+ and my old 2wire modem/wireless router couldn't handle the bandwidth so I bought a new NetComm NB6Plus4Wn wireless N modem/router.
My iPhone, PS3 and old G4 have no problem connecting anywhere in my house however my i7 iMac 27" says connection timeout. When I booted my iMac into Windows 7 to check the hardware and have no problem connecting at all so that ruled out a hardware problem. I phoned apple care several times and was instructed to do everything they could think of including finally doing a fresh install of OSX10.6.2 still not working. I moved my iMac right next to my router to plug in a ethernet cable (which I didn't do)to update and bang I have a wireless network. So I can't understand why it can connect with windows 7 over a distance of 5 meters and not with mac osx. I spent a lot of time on the phone to apple care and it was doing my head in so I went and bought a 15m ethernet cable and am now plugged in. So no wireless network no airplay :(

Have you installed TinyUmbrella on your Mac? It will cause this error because it edits the gs.apple.com line in your hosts file, and iTunes can not resolve the address to allow installation.

No 4.3 for 1st/2nd generation

Still shows 4.2.1 is the latest version for me

:(

No 4.3 for 1st and 2nd Generation iPod Touch! Bull ***** imho. The second generation touch was released September 9, 2008... and there is no more support for it?

AT&T Personal Hotspot

Enabling Personal Hotspot with AT&T requires you to give up your Unlimited Data Plan (for those who have it) and sign up for the $45 4GB Data Plan!

What good is this update, if your service provider won't let you have it for a big loss!

Yes that is my set up iPad and 3GS phone.

Both must be running 4.3 open personal hotspot on phone and enable making the phone discoverable. On iPad simply go to general Bluetooth and you should see your phone. Pair and away you go.

Cheers

Actually, you can have a 4.2 iPhone with a 4.3 iPad and have this work. I tested that out first. With 4.2 it is just called Internet Tethering, but it works the same (at least for one connected machine). This is good news for anybody still running a iPhone 3G and can't have iOS 4.3

I also ran some speed tests and got the BT 2 max of about 1.4 Mbps. So, not as fast as a Wifi link can be (I can get 4-6Mbps on 3G on my iPhone), but at least it is something.

Hotspot, as some have said is activated from Settings > General > Network is not a viewable option-it is not there. Any other Softbank customers (who also have the unlimited data plan) have this issue?

Take your phone to an Apple store. They spent two hours scratching their heads with mine. They switched out the phone twice and even tried a new SIM card. They finally got it working somehow. But they did say that they're sending a memo to Apple about the issue because others have had similar issues. I spent all day trying to fix mine.

But you did try:
Error 1004 and 1013: This error may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being blocked, redirected, or interrupted. Adjust your hosts file or security software to ensure that connections to gs.apple.com are not blocked. If the issue persists, try restoring on another computer with a known-good connection. If this restore is successful, you will need to contact whoever supports your install of the operating system and security software installed on your computer for assistance. If your hosts file redirects requests to gs.apple.com, you may choose to follow Can't connect to the iTunes Store, in the "The 'hosts' file may be blocking the iTunes Store" section.

If you have cruft from Tiny Umbrella or something in there this will definitely happen.

home sharing

so 15 minutes after turning it on, and my iPhone 4 is still spinning its wheels trying to load from my iTunes. apparently the home sharing feature wasn't optimized for 20,000 songs in an iTunes library.

Video on iDisk

Still can't stream videos on my idisk app from the phone to the appletv via airplay, just the sound from the videos. Frustratingly bad mobile me support. Also still no upgrades to iweb.

You really expected AT&T to allow you to tether multiple devices, each consuming unlimited bandwidth, to the phone? Really?

Name’s iPhone for Personal Hotspot SSID?

Is anybody else seeing ’ instead of an apostrophe in the Personal Hotspot's SSID with iOS 4.3? Is there any way to specify the Personal Hotspot name to avoid this issue? I'm seeing the apostrophe for other wifi ssid's that have one, but for my iPhone, it replaces it with ’ ... any ideas?

One thing I noticed: I can't double stream video, although the audio plays. That is, I can't stream video (personal home video or purchased videos) from iTunes to my iPad and then stream it to my Apple TV via Airplay. Unless this is a bandwidth issue with my wifi -- I'm upstairs and the base is downstairs -- I think it's intentional. Home sharing is protected and limited to a specific Apple ID that must match on iOS device and the iTunes library, while Airplay is not. If I could Airplay something I'm streaming from my iTunes library to my iPad, I could, in the right wifi environment, send it to my neighbor's Apple TV w/o authorizing his ATV w/ my Apple ID. And that would violate the "home sharing" principle, in that I could give him access to purchased, protected content that he did not purchase.

If you're ultimately wanting an iTunes video/movie to play on your AppleTV via AirPlay, just use the Remote app and then stream it from iTunes directly to your AppleTV. The home sharing feature is only there to stream video from your iTunes library to your iDevice.

Nope, I have Softbank's unlimited plan (grandfathered in to the old tiered-and-capped plan), but the tethering and personal hotspot options remain unavailable.
