i'm down to 57% now, i went in and disabled some features like BlueTooth, iCloud, and a few other things to see how that'll help with battery life.

That is generally because it has not finished redownloading your address book. Just give it a few minutes, should resolve.

No, the issue is still here this am. Half my favorites are numbers and the other names. Randomly. Same in imessenger as well. I rebooted, etc. Same issue.

I did the OTA update on my 4S last night which completed and said that my current software was updated. I used the phone for another hour or so after that and went to bed. When I woke up this morning the phone was in recovery mode and had to be restored since I could not get the home screen back up despite hard resets.

Good thing I woke up early.

Too bad they can't fix the Lion battery issue, I've lost 2-3 hours from a charge since upgrading. To test things out, I went back to SL and got my 3 hours back.

Oh well.

I don't they think they really fixed anything sadly. My battery seems the same or possibly slightly worse after the update.

Charged full and left on standby for 30-45 minutes and it dropped 12%, that is unacceptable. [iPhone 4S 32GB]

I remembered asking people when the iPhone 4 came out how the battery was and everyone said that it worked well. I wondered what has happened and hopefully we can get a serious fix for this.

The battery meter is only a volt meter and therefore only a good guess at remaining battery capacity.

The only real way to test is to charge over night and then use the phone till it switches off and see how long you get.

i put the update on my iPad 2 and noticed that when a new message alert shows up on the lock screen the icon of the new message blinks the first time its shown - kind of cool!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

I had been running the beta without much improvement, so last night I did a fresh install of 5.0.1 and set up the phone as new, and so far it looks promising. Accidentally forgot to keep the phone plugged in last night when I went to bed, but the phone was at 100%. 6h later, it was at 99% this morning with WiFi on all night and around 6-8 emails downloaded. It's on fetch every 30 min with one account, no iCloud, and system services locations turned off.

Will keep monitoring.

I didn't realize that is was a bad thing to make less money to work for the government and defend your country. I also don't think this is the place to question somebodies intelligence. Sorry for being in the military so that you may have the luxury of your life style. Hope you have a fine Veterans weekend!

Amen - thanks from one Vet to another!

Thank you both for your service to our country so that some have the freedom to rub their prosperity into the faces of those that sacrifice so much.
Unfortunately I will be working this veterans day.
At least it's better than looking at the keel depth of 400 feet doing 4 knots to no where In a rig for black control room

That... was quick.

Question now is.. for those with the iPhone 4s on back order, what are the odds of it coming with 5.0.1 vs. 5.0?

BL.

Won't matter...when you plug it in to iTunes to set it up, it will update the iOS if necessary...

With all the battery issues we are seeing reported here, it makes me just sit here in wonder how this release got through BETA testing, and with two builds!

It also makes me wonder if the community serving as BETA testers these days is simply overflowing with the type of people who just "wanna be first!" instead of those who "wanna report bugs..."

I think whilst it is a 'paid beta' you wont get solid testing done of the OS, just devs who care about their apps, and a ******** of 'i WANT IT NOWWW' children.

I have more issues with 5.0.1 than I had with 5.0.0, general safari and mail instability is a massive issue, i need stable mail for a business device.

Time to remove every app on the device and start again, might pick up a WP7 this weekend.

what???

As everybody seems to report the issue with constant timezone setting remains, and thus the problem with the batterie life.

why is it so hard to fix?

at least one can switch it of altogether.....

Still too early to really tell at this point, but so far today depressingly things seem even worse. 50% gone in three hours.

I'm starting to suspect part of the problem is that the device seems to be going into overdrive in trying to connect to cell towers when there's little/no signal at all, as my worst drain seems to be places like the London Underground with no signal.

Multitouch gestures back on the iPad 1 - THANK. GOD. Removing them was the worst thing Apple had ever done to me.
Unless you're a developer, Apple didn't give them to you in the first place, and then only for testing.
As much as it was a douchy thing for Charlie Miller to do it does show a significant weakness - why doesn't Apple just admit they need help and hire Charlie Miller? it seems that he does a pretty good job finding these vulnerabilities so why not give the man an offer of employment? let him sit around in the office hacking Mac OS X and iOS to pieces, let him scour the source code etc.

He finds vulnerabilities and reports them anyway, so why hire him? Apple's security track record isn't that bad, even though they're sometimes slow on the uptake.

I love the fact that this update can be done directly from the device.

Such an improvement over the past.

Well, I don't know

After I did the update last night I seemed to still be chugging battery pretty bad. But this morning I took my iP4 off the charge at 6:30 and I'm only down to 97% at 8:30. Havn't really done anything but turn the alarm off a few times and look at the time, but it seems a little better than before now.

iOS 5.0.1 seems to take care of battery issue!!!

Hello Apple heads, well after checking battery usage (with Battery Percentage on) this is what I'm getting so far:

Time since last full charge
Usage 4 hours,14 Mins
Standby 11 Hours, 7 Mins

And showing 63% battery life!! So far so good!

Thanks Apple!!!
