Just updated mine over the air - took 5 mins on a shared 100MB broadband connection (at work).

Seems to have been ok so far (touch wood) and for once hasn't erased my entire Music collection (which is often does)

Seems I may have spoken too soon...

Since the update my signal strength has massively deteriorated. From having 3-4 bars of signal at my desk, I now have one bar which comes and goes.

Any other people experienced this?

5.0.1.. yea right!

After upgrading to 5.0.1, I went to sleep while the battery was at 76%. Seven hours later I woke up to find the battery was down to 69%.

Is this normal?

On AT&T with 4S -

Went to bed at 82%. Woke up at 80%. At work now. Did have 4 bars at my desk. Now I have 5. Had the phone since upgrading from 3GS on Oct. 14th. I have not noticed any difference in battery life. The #1 thing by far I have noticed on this phone is speed compared to the 3GS. Night and day difference.

Hello Apple heads, well after checking battery usage (with Battery Percentage on) this is what I'm getting so far:

Time since last full charge
Usage 4 hours,14 Mins
Standby 11 Hours, 7 Mins

And showing 63% battery life!! So far so good!

Thanks Apple!!!

GO SEMINOLES!!!

That is impressive

You on wifi?

----------

Not sure what just happened

Just took a pic in the locked screen and now all my usage stats are gone

What the hell happened?

Yes, that is normal. I slept for 7 hours and mine went down 25%. Is that normal?

Not seeing much difference in battery life since updating. Might try a re-install tonight.
Any difference in success between connected and OTA updates?

If I could keep iMessage and drop back down to iOS4, I would love that. The days of going to bed for 7/8hrs @ 100% while playing the iHeartRadio app and waking up at 98/99% are long gone :(.

I'm refusing to update to 5.0.1 because I've read the reviews on the Apple forum and 99% of people are saying the results are even worse that 5.0. I'm having to spend 3-4hrs everyday just charging back up now whereas under 4.3.5 I wouldn't have gone near a charger for at least a day and half

or i could just turn off the phone and i'll have negligible battery drain :)

i'm sure theres ways to conserve battery, i'm just comparing my 4 battery to 4s, and 4s prior to update with post update. I've turned off location enabled iads (never did on the 4), didnt use gps at all yesterday, push email is off the only thing thats on is push calendar for gmail (same as my 4, where my backup came from), icloud is off except for contacts and bookmarks.

I know some people have no use for alot of this, but i think my usage if any is below average. I don't use push, something i really should be able to freely use without battery repurcussions ideally, i should be able to use icloud, etc etc.

Like i mentioned, yesterday wasa busy day at the office so i hardly used my phone. and the 5.0.1 did nothing to improve battery.

As of my initial post yesterday around 1130, it is now10 hrs later overnight and i'm at 11% battery (didnt charge)

Some tips:
Switch off various system services like automatic timezone and location-dependent iAds (using GPS all the time will drain the battery), switch off Push-eMail, if not needed switch off iCloud services (like e.g. backup).

Does anybody know if this update resets the battery gauge? My battery life seems to have gotten slightly poorer. When I got the phone new, I cycled it 2 - 3 times and each time it got better.

I think I fixed my 4S!

After 5.0.1 OTA install, battery still drained fast if not faster. This AM it was dead. I charged using my iPad charger to 100%. Then I went to Settings-->General-->Reset All Settings

After phone reboots, it goes through setup. I setup as "new phone". All my apps and data were on phone when I logged in. The good news is battery seems to be holding very nicely now with no rapid drain!! Give it a shot, good luck!

I'm starting to suspect part of the problem is that the device seems to be going into overdrive in trying to connect to cell towers when there's little/no signal at all, as my worst drain seems to be places like the London Underground with no signal.

Phazer

It seems on my phone its actually the opposite (on 5.0, dont fully know about 5.0.1 yet). It seems my iphone is not doing a good enough job of tracking towers. So i shudder to think how horrible the battery life would be if it performed better.

If im in an elevator or no service area, my phone will show no signal for 5 mins after. theres been times when i've randomly taken the phone out and its showed no signal/searching, so who knows how long its been unable to catch a signal. These are places where i never had issues with the previous iphone.

Alot of times it will also show me i have a 3G connection full bars, but for some reason i wont have data services. i have to turn on off airport mode few times to get it to start up again.

So i'm thinking these are all issues for me atleast with the iphone not doing a good enough job of tracking towers. I remember i had both these problems with my 3gs (searching/3g on but no data) which got fixed at some point but now it seems they're back.

Funny, that's how mine started acting last night after I updated to 5.0.1. Have since retrograded to 5.0. Seems ok today.

many more neg reactions than positive ones with this new update. I'm not touching mine.

hell no......

Users with bad experiences are always going to be more likely to comment than the rest. Not saying anything about the update, but the fact is a polling of a forum like this is not even close to reality. Just saying...

My battery life sucked after I updated, but now I've been on 85% for like 20 minutes. Like it just kicked in. Noice.

update is kind of worrying me. location services for time zone have pretty much been on non stop on my 4S and ipad2 since the update. Drained till dead and charged to full last night on both devices and am going to test out and see how long they last today

OTA available in Canada

This is awesome!

Are you sure you didn't click "Erase all Content and Settings" and do an iCloud restore by mistake? I'm almost positive if you choose Reset All Settings it goes through the original setup, but doesn't give you the option to set up as a new phone because all you did was like it says, reset your settings.\

EDIT: P.S. What's the verdict on Compass Calibration? What will it take away from if I disable it?

I was having no issues with battery life before, other than perhaps slightly less overall life than the 4. The update went fine and as far as i can tell, there is a slight improvement. There are also no issues with signal strength etc. This is running on AT&T.

My battery life still sucks...

So I posted a comment yesterday asking if users of the iPhone think I should recalibrate my battery again after the update, but no responses. So I went ahead and did it. I let the phone sit for 20-30 minutes will it was drained. And charged it back up. I let it get to 100% and at about 4AM, went to bed. I woke up at 8:30AM and my battery was on 69%... I turned off most of the location services and System Services. Siri is turned on, but I don't allow it to use my Location Services unless it asks me. I'm connected to Wifi as well.

I called Verizon and was told that they are releasing another update within the coming weeks because a lot of users are still experiencing problems. She said she was looking at a blog, but I'm not sure if it was an older post before 5.0.1.

What to do? Should I request a new device?

Oh an also, my reception is a bit worse, as others are experiencing.
