I have to wait until I get home..... I have a Iphone 3gs. After the install, whoever has iphone 3gs. How is it running?

i will definitely let you know. if i wasn't selling mine for the 4S, I'm sure i wouldn't update- it's gotta be incredibly slow.

I can't seem to get the Newsstand icon to go into a folder though.....

Can't put Newsstand in a folder... Newsstand is technically a folder itself. I know, it kinda sucks.

This man has nailed it. It doesn't verify the update with Apple if you sign out beforehand.

Agreed - well done that man... only thing to add is log out of store AND close and reopen iTunes.... worked for me this way

Upgrade worked great! Except... all my apps were no longer in folders. I spent a long time reorganizing everything.

Did anyone else have this problem or was this fail unique to me?

Mine went perfect. No issues at all, except the Newsstand thing, which others have pointed out is just the way it is.

Problem FIXED!
I set my iPad on Airplane Mode and tried the update again... now it works like a charm

Those who are getting the internal error for iPad, try to put yours on Airplane Mode!

Just put my phone on airplane mode because a phone call interrupted the very long backup process and does not pickup where it left off (even if you ignore the call).

Jeez, three and a half hours to u/g my 3GS. wish I hadn't bothered as I'll be doing a Factory Reset of it when I get my 4S and the wife has this.

Let's hope the iPad goes smoother.

To get rid of all the errors I put it in Flight Mode and disconnected my FW800 disk and my Linux server mounts.

For everyone having Internal Error's.

Patience is a virtue.

Took me 10-15 attempts and it finally went through. A few things i did were to change sync cable and USB port on PC as well as placing iPhone in Airplane mode.

Sign Out of iTunes and switch it off then on again...

I tried and tried and tried to update the iPhone 4 after downloading iOS5 but it wouldn't work.

Then I signed out and quit iTunes, restarted iTunes, and it's working perfectly now.

Trying to download and install iOS 5. When it gets to the download part, I see no progress bar or any indication that it's downloading. However, when I click on my iPhone details, under the 'Summary' section, it says iTunes is downloading software for my iPhone and will install it when it's done.

Is this what should be happening? Shouldn't I see some kind of progress bar for the download?

Bricked 3GS

Not sure what happened, but during the update process, my 3GS is now completely bricked and useless. iTunes is spitting out errors at me and even after running some terminal commands from apple help, it's not working after repeated tries of restoring. Awesome.

A theory of mine; I hadn't updated to 4.2.5 or whatever the last release was before 5, so maybe that caused my problem. Either way, proceed with caution and best of luck.

Hi Guys been trying to update to ios5 for the last 3 hours and finally got it to download but phone won't restore and i'm getting the 3004 error message. Itunes logo is appearing as if I turned on the phone for the first time....

I read on another site that someone's 3GS was much faster with ios5 than it was with ios4.

iOS 5 is definitely faster and smoother on my iPhone 4, ive also heard its better on 3GS as well

Yes, this is exactly what's happening with mine. :/ It's stuck in restore mode with the 3000 error messages coming up. Are the servers just getting hit too hard or what? So frustrating, I should've known better.
