Hey I had been running IOS 5 Beta 7 and I went to update my phone to the new version today and iTunes says that it I have the current version. I downloaded the .ipsw of the newest build and tried doing a restore from that but it says an "internal error" occurred. Does anyone know how to fix this for me or have any guidance for me? Thanks

See above... same error millions of the rest of us are getting. Just have to wait it out.

and I hate iOS5 notifications already. even after i've checked them there is a pile or 30 notifications in a row in the notification center from an app instead of putting them all together and just showing the latest one and a number and now my lock screen is an endless scroll of **** lol

Depends on how fast your Internet connection is and how slammed Apple's servers are. Mine took about an hour.

I'm still trying to get it to install tho... That's a separate issue.

Tuck

I'm using Wifi connection not really sure of the connection speed, but its telling me that I have 16 hrs left of download and thats for 4 items..:(

Can't form an opinion yet as I haven't managed update yet after 4 hours trying

May leave it until tomorrow - losing the will to live, feel like a BB owner

Problems installing ios5

Had the same issue just got it sorted. I was getting the 3004 message and My phone was stuck at the restore point. I just kept trying to restore and after the 3rd attempt it worked.
Gonna leave my Ipad till tomorrow I think and hope the servers are back to normal.... :)

16 hours? That's way too long. Maybe I was incredibly lucky or something, but I went in about an hour ago, and managed to get it downloaded in less than 15 minutes.

Installing it has been kind of a chore, but I'm also upgrading from a heavily tweaked, jailbroken iPhone. It took me forever to get everything synced up, and error free, and now...fingers crossed...I think I've finally done it. It's restoring my apps as we speak.

Maybe in about another 10 minutes or so, I'll get to play with the damn thing.

Dude. Guy. Son. My first smartphone was a Blackberry Storm. Until you've had your phone crash so hard because...holy crap...you got a call, and it you have to take the battery out and wait about forever for it to reboot just so you can use it again...yeah...you have no idea what true suffering feels like.

It was...it was...it was...real bad.

edit: AND IT'S DONE!

I'm not quite getting how to move all my contacts from my mac to iCloud.

does there have to be two groups? on my mac and iCloud contacts? that's kinda dumb, i'd rather just 1 group be universal.

All I did was register my devices and sign them in. iCloud merged all the data. The only duplication I saw was 2 extra entries in my bookmark toolbar.

By groups, I meant in my Address Book. I have multiple groups for contacts.

taking hours to restore

It took almost 2 hours to restore my apps and now its doing my music and videos...

So, I understand that the iPhone 4 and possibly iPad 2 will not feature Siri. What I am, wondering, though is if there will at least still be the inclusion of a dictation feature? Similar to the one that Android has in the form of a little microphone button on the on-screen keyboard?

Does anyone know? I've kind've been promising this feature to my 85 year grandma this for her iPad 2!

I'm now getting a new error message: The iPhone cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.

And I'm stuck in restore mode

UPDATE: Finally, the update went through (with luck, no special tricks or anything).

UPDATE 2: The update failed in the middle of the process. I was afraid my phone was completely bricked. It's not, but still stuck in restore mode. This is pitiful.

Did the Safari/Lion upgrade first, that took over 2 1/2 hours to download. Then onto the iOS5 iTunes and that took about 1/2 hour to download, then connected the phone and it's been giving me the same error msgs. Went to another forum (AppleInsider) and saw this post. Reposting it as a public service to anyone whose install has failed X number of times. Be Patient.

"I just got off the phone with Apple rep. He said they are having a problem with "a server" that is causing the "internal error" code and inability to upgrade to iOS 5. He said to try again every few hours and if the problem is not resolved by tomorrow to call them back with my case number.
He said "this is the only issue we've been dealing with for the past few hours". Apparently lots of calls. I didn't even have to explain to him my problem. He asked me, "Are you getting the internal error message when you try to update?" before I had a chance to describe the problem. So Apple is well aware of the problem.
John"

Thank You John, whoever you are.

Does anyone know how much time it take to download the new software?

6h at last check:mad:
and thats on a fast connection.

After being next to my mac all day and checking every hour in the hope of an early release.... I get a call at 5pm (normal release time 6pm UK) and have to go out....by the time I get back seems like everyone is downloading:(

This is such a joke.

My phone's been a brick for 4 hours now because the restore keeps failing. I am phoneless with people I need to be available for until this rigmarole is sorted out.

Way to go, Apple - just launch a new iCloud service, a major iOS update and a MacOS update all on the same day. Don't worry about your servers - they'll be fine......

just updated, the whole process took about 45 minutes (like a windows or osx install lol), but everything ran smoothly.

So far it's running pretty snappy. I don't feel any slow down yet for a previous hardware on the new ios.

I was tempted to disagree, call you an idiot and roll my eyes. Until I saw your sig!!!

Dragon Dictation, sir.

Dragon Dictation (which most, including David Pogue, believe powers the dictation features of Siri) is a free download app which does a pretty good job. It's been out for a while. Runs on iPhone 4, iPad 2, etc.

They apparently didn't learn their lesson from a few years ago.

It said 6h when I started but it seems to be going a bit quicker now. its been running 2 1/2h and its now saying 60mins.

took about 10 minutes to download, but then again I'm in Tokyo and have 100MB/s fibre into my apartment

Downloaded at 6pm. It took 1 hour to download each iphone and ipad.

Both failed to install. iPhone 4 is now totally bricked. Trying to restore on a different machine and now the download time is 6 hours!!!
