Finally gave up with OTA update on my 4S stuck on "preparing update" for close to 4 hours, and doing the full monty in iTunes instead which will take a while. Sometimes things don't "just work" like they used to.

Both my iPad 3 and iPhone 5 updates took about 10 minutes, no issues. I did notice improved WiFi performance on the iPad 3, with a faster connection and faster loading speeds.

I had those same problems, also my springboard (the home screens) kept crashing. It was on my 4th generation iPod touch, which I took to Apple thinking that it was defective for having the problem after wipes and restores. Were the two of you experiencing this on a 4th generation iPod touch?

It has NOTHING to do with the device. It's server-side.

iPhone 4S: signed in with someone else's account -> works fine.
iPhone 4S: signed in with *MY* account -> CRASH

iPad 2: signed in with someone else's account -> works fine.
iPad 2: signed in with *MY* account -> CRASH

iPhone 3GS: signed in with someone else's account -> works fine.
iPhone 3GS: signed in with *MY* account -> CRASH

My account crashes any and all devices it is added to.

Mine downloaded and installed without any problems.

It automatically removed the app after the phone restarted.

Not noticed any improvements yet...

i was able to update last night with no problems discovered yet. i didn't do an OTA update though - i updated my ip5 through iTunes.

I know! So so stupid. Had to press an extra button that took me a whole second! Totally not worth the effort. Man I miss plugging the phone into the computer and updating through iTunes.

It's stupid that Apple let this kind of bug out with the iPhone 5, and now they have to do this kind of clumsy method of updating. My comment is more aimed at Apple's crap-poor QC and testing, not so much the idea of updating without using iTunes.

For those hoping for better battery life, did iOS 6 significantly reduce battery life on the 4S? I got a 4S after iOS 6 came out, so have nothing to compare to.

My battery life is fine, but better would always be better!

iOS 6 greatly improved the performance of my iPhone 3GS.

The amount of low memory warnings went from several a day to only one in month.

Obviously, the responsiveness of the device improved with this increased memory efficiency.

So, iOS 6 has its benefits despite some of its shortcomings.

I recommend those not upgrading from iOS 5 to reconsider unless want to jailbreak.

Anyone else seeing less purple fringing from the camera post 6.0.1?

I was getting it a lot before without any effort (even from grey days without sun) but I noticed today that it wasn't happening and then I went out of my way to try and make it happen (indoors and outdoors) and I only managed it a couple of times (one of those was an HDR shot, original barely showed but HDR version was much stronger).

Have Apple quietly tweaked something?

For signal strength indicator:

Step 1: Open your "Phone App" from Springboard then dial this number *3001#12345#* and hit call.

Step 2: Now your iPhone will launch Field Test, you will notice that bars converted to numbers. This number is indication to your reception strength measured in decibels. The closer to "0" the "stronger" your signal.

Step 3: Now Press and hold Power button until the power slider appear, but DON'T POWER OFF.

Step 4: Press and hold Home button until Field Test program is terminated. You will find that signal strength numbers still there.
Now you are done!
You can toggle between signal bars and numbers by tap on signal strength at the top left of screen.

Is there a way to disable this ( get it back to standard )?

Thans

To reverse the effect

- Open your phone dialer

- Enter *3001#12345#*, then select "Call"

- In "Field Test Mode", select the "Home" button to exit

- Done

If that doesn't work, resetting network settings will be needed. However, I've never had to do so myself or known anyone who did.

Keep in mind, you can toggle between the bars and the numeric digits simply by tapping on the area in the upper lefthand corner. If you followed the instructions I provided, toggling between the two indicators should be an option. :)

My brother tried to update his iPhone 5 yesterday and it froze. I still refuse to update.

Thing is, do these updates end up getting tweaked over time if there are issues or do they just stay the same? If they stay the same, then I guess there is no point on avoiding the update for a month or so?

Is this only for AT&T? I just tried it with Telstra (Australian Telco) and get "Error performing request [-] Unknown Error"

Something I've noticed after upgrading to 6.0.1 is that when you get a notification on the lock screen, the icon doesn't flash/pulse any more.

This was quite useful to me as if I had more than one notification already on the lock screen I would know that the one flashing was the one that had just came in.

Is anyone else seeing this?
