Several reasons:
- I have some music files (live recordings) that are more than 200 MB in size and hence don't work with Match.
- I'm using smart playlists with live updating to automatically rotate in recently added songs (in addition to permanent favorites). This works really well and saves me from manually managing what I want on the device. I'll have to check whether this still works (i.e. including live updating when I acquire new songs) when using Match.
- I don't really like the idea of downloading gigabytes of songs from the cloud that I already have in my local library. But of course this would not be a big issue anymore after the initial download.

It would be great if we could use both old-fashioned syncing and the cloud at the same time. :)

Ahh I see. I'll be testing all these things out as soon as my update finishes (seems stuck on the final loading screen). As far as I know the playlists always live update - so if you change a playlist on one device, they all change meaning that aspect should still work regardless.

Can anyone else confirm or deny this as well? I was planning on upgrading my work phone, but now I might not....

Ive been reading all day about this and so far the general consensus from those who have been using iOS6 on their iPhone 4 suggest that the battery life is improved and that the phone itself runs snappier

It has been over 25 minutes and two restarts and the damn OTA wont go thru

I hope to god that all the posters on Reddit/theVerge were right about the update being essential for increasing the longevity of the long in the tooth iphone 4

wasn't trying to be smart butt. actually kind of a serious question. Why does the phone open to the exact same state after a hard reset?

I've always thought the same thing. A Hard reset IMHO should keep all your data, but close all processes, apps, etc. Kind of like a reboot of a laptop.

You don't understand. It's already downloaded, did that relatively quickly. It took its time "preparing update" then switched to the black screen with slowly moving grey progress bar, then restarted (I guess?) and is now back at another screen with an empty progress bar. It has just been sitting there for a LONG time now. Forty minutes, I guess? Maybe longer.

mine was doing the same thing...it eventually started moving...and once it started moving, it finished up rather quickly, but the whole process probably took about 90 minutes if not longer.

Cool, thanks for the info. It'll be the last of my iDevices to get the update but I'll probably get around to it - if only for Passbook for work flights and such.

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't any big drawback.

90 MINUTES!?!?!?!

I started this damn update and have to leave for dinner in an hour or so I thought for sure one hour would be enough but it took 90 minutes idling on a progress bar screen looks like i just got fuxted pretty badly

My screen is stuck on preparing update

I'm sure it runs smoother on that new A6 chip. ;)

Yeah! Everyone is freaking out about everything not working! Just give it a second for Jobs sake! Theres so much going on right now ppl! Shesh. Plus, the new iPhones we are all getting will probably help it out too. ;) Just chillll everyone. :)

BTW, mine was doing the same thing. Just did a hard reset - home button and lock button together - and when it came back it finished rather quickly. My 4S is up and running!

No Public Transport option!!

I am a salesman who isn't rich enough to buy a new car yet(1st job). I use public transportation a lot and the earlier maps application used to be great in this option. It used to tell when can I start where should I take the bus etc. Now Apple has removed that option totally and that plain sucks. Clicking the public transit option takes me to the App Store category of routes and directions, which is not what I want

The earlier app used to show a combo of transit if needed - Bus + Light rail etc. All gone now! :(

Damn you Apple fanboys... can you please stop downloading iOS.6 so my download doesn't take so long? ;)

Mines been going for ~30 minutes and it still says about 14 minutes to go.

started at 1900 (european time) still 15% left almost 3h later..
comeon apple.. something's terribly slow ....!

For those missing Google Maps, I'm sure that'll be coming around soon as an app - Google is undoubtedly working on a nice 3D update! As well as making their YouTube app universal.

For my iPhone and iPad, the App Store works fine except for the Purchases tab. Anyone else see a list of past purchases?

Not liking the change in the look of the keypad and Music. Why change those 2 and not everything? Otherwise it's a good update, I think.

This new music played showed up once before then disappeared again. I hated it then and still do. It looks like it belongs to a different OS entirely.

ok, So I downloaded the update and am in the process of installing. The iPhone restarted and the Apple logo came up and the progress bar filled up. Then it went back to an empty progress bar and hasn't moved for 20 min. Happened on both my iPhone 4S and my iPad 3. Any suggestions?

Same here! has yours come back yet? mine's been on the black screen with white apple, and empty progress bar, for I'd say an hour. Not sure what to do...

Ack! I lost all my photos after an OTA update... I have an iCloud backup as of last night, how do I restore my photos? Why would they not be there after an update?

I got the same... I did my update OTA... probably should have connected to my laptop and done it through there.

Anyway... I've got the same issue where all my photos are gone, but they seem to be 'restoring'. Not sure where from since I don't use iCloud to backup my iPhone, do it through iTunes.

Maybe it has something to do with the new photo app...

Hopefully it's all there!

Uhm, nope. Not "selling" something currently has nothing to do with not allowing it to be updated, even if the hardware supports the update.

The reason is that Apple thinks that by withholding the upgrade, users will rush to update their suddenly "old" iPads when the Mini is announced. This "we don't sell it, so no support" policy is the reason I will not buy another Samsung-branded phone, and now Apple is doing it as well.

And why exactly can't we compare iOS and OS X upgrade paths, as long as the hardware supports the upgrades? This assertion makes no sense.

In OS X as long as the hardware supports all key core features/architectures of the OS you'll likely get the upgrade.

In iOS you get two major software revisions (iPad 1 got iOS 4 and 5) and thats it. Hardware support matters not. Unless Apple is still selling the product then you get an extension to a 3rd revision (3GS gets iOS6).

iTunes and iOS6

Has anyone tried to "link" their devices in iTunes after the update? Neither my iPhone 4 or iPad 2 show up under "devices" in iTunes. Both are connected to my home wi-fi. I've downloaded and installed the Mountain Lion update and have restarted iTunes a few times. Any ideas? I was hoping to back up my devices with iOS6 before my iPhone 5 arrives Friday :)

I hope so. Just upgraded my iPad and Apple Maps is definitely a downgrade.

It got off to a bad start by showing all the motorways here in the UK as yellow. Any fule kno they should be blue! The satellite imagery for my area is in black & white, no street view, no public transport FAIL.

...and there was me tempted by an iPhone 5. No Google Maps soon = Samsung Time!
