What exactly did 7.1 or 7.1.1 give us that 7.0.6 didn't with good battery life? A redesigned dialer? Auto HDR? CarPlay? I'd rather have the other half of my battery back.

A more responsive iPhone that doesn't crash when I open the camera. Same with iPad a much more responsive device that doesn't restart almost daily!

I guess I don't have any of those problems with 7.0.6, and aside from the thumb print feature improvements, I'll stick with what I got for now.

But I do sincerely hope that battery life is a non-advertised improvement in 7.1.1 vs 7.1. I'd still like to have the rest of the improvements they've made, minimal or not. Just not at the cost of needing an outlet or external battery pack (of which I have 2 that I rotate for emergencies anyway) throughout the day.

They've offered more storage for a long long time, it's just a personal decision as to whether or not you want/need it.
Try reading my post again. Nowhere did I say Apple didn't have multiple storage options prior to 2008.

It's the memory upgrade prices that are insane!

$100 to go from 16GB to 32GB!! Even $100 for 32GB to 64GB is pretty high...

Gary

some people are just junk accumulators regardless of how much memory they have. but yeah if you are one of those types you pay the price or you have problems, take your pick.

Finger recognition literally double the speed! Freakin love it. :p

with a 'desktop class' processor in there it should be instantaneous don't you think?

Moto G features: No 4G/LTE, your choice of 8GB or 16GB, cheap build quality, and constantly loses signal. You get what you pay for.

I've not heard about connection issues. And, other than lack of LTE, everything I've read about the Moto G is overwhelmingly positive.

Regarding iPhone storage:

I got an iPhone with 16GB back in 2009. I felt it was a little cramped, so every device purchased since has had at least 32GB.

If you think 16GB is too little, then get a device with more storage. Why get angry over it? It's like buying a pair of shoes that is the wrong size, and then getting mad at the manufacturer for making them in the wrong size. If it was the wrong size for you, then WHY did you buy it in the first place?

Reminders still broken

I was hoping that the reminders app would be fixed with this update to allow the app icon badge to show up when timed reminders pass due time, sadly still not fixed.

Does anyone use iBeacons? It seems that in 7.1.1, apps are able to detect iBeacons virtually instantly. It's a little slower to pull the trigger on saying that the iBeacon is out-of-range also.

I think the 'in-app purchases' phrase written under the app purchase button will be useful - most apps which rely on in-app purchases are just rubbish usually and this will help me decide! :D

What do you mean by "back pre-iOS 7.1 levels" ? As far I can remember - Touch ID in 7.0 was slow and unreliable.

The fingerprint detection itself had a tendency to fade, yes.

That was improved in iOS 7.1, but there has been a noticeable delay in unlocking the phone with Touch ID. The phone would "read" your finger for at least a second or two before unlocking. iOS 7.0.x didn't "read" your finger for as long, therefore shortening unlock time but also messing up the recognition at times.

iOS 7.1.1 brings back the best of both worlds: speedy reading and accurate detection.

That is not new in this update.

Yes it is. Previously the "In app purchases available" only showed up when you accessed the app's main page, not under the price button.

It's a fantastic feature. For free apps I will read this as 'AVOID'.

Right testing safari multiple tabs on Air.

We have one (my kids, not mine) and it's not been great. Will be flipping it on Fleabay in the near future, as soon as I figure out what to replace it with.

It wasn't me complaining about the 16GB iPhones. My iPhone 5 was a 64GB model which I never made full use of, my current iPhone 5S is the 32 GB model which has been just about perfect. Easily has enough capacity for one trip's-worth of photos until I can get back home and upload them to a computer or Flickr. iPads, on the other hand, 128GB is the minimum I would want if buying a new one. YMMV.

Plenty of security, stability, and performance improvements all around though.

Not sure about battery issues, as by far not everyone had any of these (and there are always some that have these kinds of issues after any update in general).

My Touch ID has always been speedy. Sometimes when I just want to see what time it is, I tap the home button for a split second and the phone goes to the home screen. A little annoying, but I can live with it. Power button works for checking the time too.

Bingo, well put.

Apple can make App Store updates without an iOS update as it's mostly server-side. This particular one seems to have been made right around the time that iOS 7.1.1 has been released, but that doesn't necessarily mean it came as part of iOS 7.1.1.
