What's everyone's download speeds like for downloading the iOS 7.1 Software Update from iTunes?

Seems to be taking longer than usual for me. Not sure if it's my ISP or because of any traffic on Apple's servers.

Estimated download time of around 30 mins for a 1.44GB file. Getting impatient lol. :D

Just a hint to all:

If you can, update through iTunes. It's MUCH faster. Probably will finish in 1/4th the time because your computer's fast as hell CPU will do the unpacking rather than the iOS device's much slower ARM processor.

You also won't need to free up as much space on the tablet to update using iTunes, since the unpacking part is on the computer.

Indeed. Especially if you have a solid state drive. On my MacBook with a Samsung 840 Pro, it finishes installation in literally 3 minutes maximum.

Oooh, I REALLY dig the new power off animation. I know its been in the betas but I'm not a developer. Very slick.

Did anyone else have a thing with 7.0.x where there would be this weird random white block glitch that happened on the power off slider? I went through a couple phones with iOS 7 and mine always did this.

I do not see the country specific holidays automatically added. Certainly the US was one of the countries this was added for.

I'm in Canada and FWIW the "Canadian Holidays" calendar was automatically added to my "Other" calendars on my iP5 after the 7.1 update. However, I've already so far noticed at least 3 missing holidays in its database so for now I've unchecked it (hidden) and reverted back to the trusty one that's synced through my iCloud across all my i-devices and macs (available here).

Touch ID, which was pretty good is now freaking AMAZINGLY accurate. I tried it time after time moving my thumb orientation and I could not get it to fail.

Way to go Apple!!!!

The true test is the wife, she thinks Touch ID stinks.

After I put in my passcode, I can't believe how fast the home page loads, it's like instant. No lag.

I also noticed when powering on your phone it's faster too, still a little subtle wake up but it's faster, this is great!!!

Every time I tried the 5s features pages, I was able to get it to crash when I moved around and double tapped a few times.

Not saying I don't believe. I am having a different experience is all. I tried several times to get it to crash doing what you described, and it won't crash. To me, that is a definite improvement for me. As to how the Air operates in lengthier testing on various sites and actions remains to be seen.

I am disappointed that I saw tab refreshing. Good news is Safari didn't crash when I had 9 tabs running and switching back and forth.

sorry should have stated: that is ios 7.0 autolock timeout: 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 minutes (or never).
in ios 7.0, passcode timeout has one option "immediately".

Im not sure why passcode and autolock have separate configurable timeouts. Seems they would follow eachother.
The two are somewhat different, and have always been like that. As for passcode timeout, it's different for different people with different accounts on the phone and different devices. A lot of people can do no passcode at all, while others can set it to 1 minute or 5 minutes or 15 minutes or more even.

My fingerprint sensor doesn't work anymore after the update. Restart my phone and deleted all the fingerprints. When I go to add a new fingerprint the scanner doesn't recognize my thumbs....

Anyone else experiencing this?

Other than that everything feels much faster.

Mine seems to be working better. If I had a coke in my hand, I would have to dry my thumb or it wouldn't work. Now that doesn't seem to matter.

Are those new icons in the weather app? Don't remember seeing them in beta 5.. rolled back to 7.0.6 a few days ago, my memory might just be a little blurred ha.

I'm pleasantly surprised, my 4S is nearly twice as fast as with 7.0.6! Much more usable.
Still a bit disappointed they haven't brought back the zoom animation when opening apps, which was removed from the 4S in the first update. The fade animation they put in instead is really slow.
And siri sounds more robotic now...

Edit: As kindly pointed out, the zoom/fade effect on opening apps depends upon the 'Reduce Motion' option.

The only obvious answer is that you are a vampire and have no fingerprints.

This really is a terrific update. We all give apple enough criticism when they get it wrong so I think it deserves to be mentioned when they get it right.

Off the bat the speed and stability improvements are great and instantly I have noticed how much better typing is on the iPad Air, no lag and a much clearer keyboard. Not to mention how much better safari is now.

These are small things but all add up and it's now a quality operating system rather than just a good idea.

This is how ios 7 should have been and as a result this is how the iPad Air was meant to be. It's not perfect, it never will be, but it's very good, I'm sure the media will have a hard time finding any headline improvements but for those that use their I devices everyday, it's just become very useable!

Yeah, pretty much everyone had that after one of the 7.0.x updates.

Sounds like you need the new iWife. She is customizable and one is able to update her through the iWife software (attitude adjustment) development portal. ;)

Can't wait to test battery in iOS 7.1

It says, usage times will be shown after iPhone is fully charged. So I need to wait another day for testing the battery meter.

I've never had an issue with the fingerprint scanner before! It always worked pretty good for me. Sigh, I guess I'm going to the apple store tonight.

This is true. I think its much slicker being able to hold the button down from the start and let it go as soon as you're done talking though, versus tapping the screen to tell it.

Oh, I agree. It'll probably become very popular. I'm more worried about over use of the home button. I use Siri all the time, would hate to break it.
