iPhone downloaded and installing but like many others, getting an error message when I try and download for my iPad.

The servers are melting... Cannot even download the new iTunes from Software Update. I was even trying to get the previous ipsw file from the apple servers using a direct link, and the download just failed.

I'll try later, I guess.

my iphone, ipad and itunes all tell me that my software is uptodate and don't update to IOS7

what the hell is going on?

my devices are not jailbroken, itunes updated to 11.1

iphone 5 version 6.1.4

ipad4 version 6.1.3

no error, nothing!! just the message that my software is up to date.

what the hell is going on?!

Hang in there. Mine would fail at the start a bunch, then failed once partway through. When it finally went all the way through it only took about seven minutes.

Preparing update now...

Pretty nice OS overhaul if you ask me, but could be better in terms of overall performance and application compatibility. :apple:

I'm giving Apple some time to sort it out now that its in the hands of the general public.

My fully optimized iOS 6 is doing very well, no rush here :)

Couldn't gt my iPad 2 to download until I connected to power, even though it asked if I wanted to continue without power...
Once I connected to power, it started downloading

If the OTA download would resume where it failed with two minutes left to go on the download, I'd be one less person hitting the servers now. As it is, the download started from the beginning.

Apple needs to find a better way to do these iOS updates. The way we're doing this now (hitting servers all at once and bringing them or their connections down) is such an archaic way of getting software updates.

downoading now on both iPhone 4S and iPad 3-download speeds seem strong. The 4S has been on "preparing update for a little while now, but that sounds normal".

"Preparing Update..." takes a long time because getting every single iOS device on the planet ready for Skynet to become sentient is no small matter.

I'm running the iOS 7 beta. Now the GM, but the one before (beta 6 I believe)
The update wasn't available, as it just said I was already running the latest version, so now I'm restoring my phone back to iOS 6.1.4, and then updating. Hopefully it will work

That's just crazy.

The GM is the same build.

And no, if you're using the beta you cannot update OTA or through the normal update in iTunes. You have to restore using the IPSW file, as per the Developer notes.

I can smell the Apple servers melting from here...

:D

Downloading the iTunes update... still says my iOS up to date.

It would be really useful if people who are downloading the update could let us know by posting the unique and wonderful news here. If you could also then post an update to say it downloaded OK it would be of immense interest to the entire MR community. Thanks.

Downloaded after around 20-30 tries, now says "preparing to update". Ten minutes of downloading with a 2mb/s connection.

Good luck.

Restart your phone, and launch again.

It seems to be working OK now, but the irritating part is that when it does crash it seems to completely start over instead of picking up where it left off... so I'm just hoping it doesn't crash again...

damn still getting errors

Download 5 minutes, preparing 21 minutes, install 11 minutes. Up and working now on my iPhone 5.

With all these errors, with servers being overloaded, perhaps in the future they should consider offering it as a BitTorrent??
