Apple always worries about selling as much iPhone's and iPad's as possible

but when it comes to updating XXX million devices, it's such a pain in the A-SS

I'm getting
"Software Update Failed, An error occurred downloading iOS 7.0"

I hope this has to do with the servers getting hammered and not with my device rejecting it. I have 8 gigs free which should be enough for the 665mb update.

Are you some 12 year old that has no idea how software works?

Apple's servers are being SHATTERED with over a quarter of a million people trying to download iTunes 11.1 and iOS 7. They don't have unlimited bandwidth you know.

Patience, my friend. Otherwise, have fun with your "GS5."

I had to click on the file that downloaded to get it to dounload

For 4S, I started downloading the same time the news story went up, got all the way through the download on the first try without the time going up, and it still hasn't finished installing.

So if you're starting now, be aware that it takes quite a while.

AARRRRGGGGHHH what kind of joke is this?

Oh.... shucks.

if you have previous iOS update saved on your Mac, is there a way to *force* an download of the latest ? cos i wanna keep 6.1.3 just in case i don't like iOS 7, but at the same time i also want to update via iTunes, and it keeps extracting.

YESS!!! Looked at software update on the phone and without me even going there before it looks like 7 is almost done, says preparing update and status is almost 95%! Thanks I guess OTA works and iTunes not....

Awesome! Glad that worked out for you. :)

The servers can't be crashing

No one will want this toy looking android rip off iOS, remember. Everyone is waiting for them to bring back Forstall so he can have his 'Steve jobs' style return and save the company.

got the download finished on a 2nd iPhone 5. Now both are preparing. 1st one looks to almost be finished "preparing". Still cant get the download to start on my mini.

Updates Server down?

Haven't tried over wifi yet but when check for the update in iTunes on my mac says I have the latest version already. Also noticed when I go to software update on my mac it says there's no updates available but I know there were a couple I haven't installed yet. Does that mean the software update server is down for the Mac? Guess I'll have to try the over wifi iOS 7 update.

Downloading on my iPhone 4S, but waiting until more people give it a kuddos or complain about issues before updating my iPad 2... If anyone has any impression/comments/complains with iOS7 on that hardware so far, I'm all ears ;)

Go to the end of the Ars review, they give a pretty good overview of what they found (iPhone 4 is slow, surprise was the iPhone 5 loses a significant amount of usable time compared to iOS6 - they listed the times, everything looses some but the 5 lost alot for some reason, hopefully its their handset).

Check it out:

Failed iTunes update here. Now just "an error occurred" when I try again.
Apple should try a software updater method like WoW uses, basically a torrent system but proprietary front end and link distribution.
get everyone excited - update update update! but don't put the infrastructure in place. schoolboy error.

Apple software update tells me I am up to date lol. Been with the iPhone since day 1 and in the last year I've just had it with apple.

I'm running the GM currently.... whenever the first update comes out (7.0.1 or whatever) will it automatically update on mine? Or do I have to restore to the official 7 release?
