It seems that installing iTunes 11.1 first helped. As soon as I had, iOS 7 was available for my iPhone 5.

Now it is downloading. However, the download is as slow as molasses. About one-third done, 49 min remaining.

In my opinion this new iOS is ugly. Wow, I'm kind of flabbergasted that this is Jonathan Ives's work. After the update my iPad Mini looks cheaper and the screen seems poorly composed. I actually miss all the skeuomorphism of the old os. Really there were just a few apps that were hideous before, imo. Game Center and Notes were the worst. Calendar was pretty ugly, and Contacts was passable. All the rest was extremely well done. But now they all seem too stark and very cheap. All the non-Apple app icons stick out like sore thumbs, and you REALLY have to be ok with a whole lot of white to get into this new iOS. As for me I'm sorry I updated. The bubbles are tacky as hell. Apple has taken so many steps backwards with this update.

Have fun with trying to get command center to come up from swiping from the bottom....

Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't...unless you take the protective faceplate off then it works all the time.

Apple needs to address this.

Isn't that more of an issue for Otterbox to address?

My wife's iPhone 5 is bricked and mine won't update at all.

Seems I have issues every time I update an Apple product...hmm

Well, I think I'll just leave my comment here:

First impressions -- I love it. A welcome change (and I have only been an iOS user since the 4s)

It might grow on me, but I have to agree. It's ugly. Too light, no textures and difficult to read when on texting or emails. Too much white overall, etc. Hope I am just having new iOS-anxiety:)

Pretty nice OS overhaul if you ask me, but could be better in terms of overall performance and application compatibility. :apple:

Meaning it's slower than its predecessor yet again ??? I'm not upgrading if this is going to further slow my iPhone 4. iOS 6 slowed it down enough already. It's annoying, this planned obsolescence. It should be an upgrade, not a downgrade. If they can't make it efficient on older devices, don't provide it. But then they wouldn't be able to encourage new hardware sales.

Schools across this fair nation probably having similar issues.

I was able to download via OTA to my iPhone 5 with only a few retries and only a 6 minute download at 10:20 PST. While waiting for the preparing for update I download the iTunes update and played with iTunes radio. I had no problems with downloading that update and listened to some classic rock while waiting for the iPhone to finish up.

I am impressed with how fast mail and safari now seems to move now. Pages now just seem to pop up and even delete faster than before. I will have to get used to the changes in how the calendar displays information but I don't think it is worse or better, just different. I do like how easy it is to make adjustment to the common features like wi-fi, bluetooth, airdrop, airplay, the iTunes player, all with a bottom swish.

Overall, I am very pleased with iOS 7, at least at this time. I have found one app that won't work with it that I use that I have to check on but that is it so far.

Preparing to update....and....still.....preparing to update....

Update: Here's an update on the update....it's still preparing to update...

Update2: Verifying update...

And....puke. Software Update Unavailable.

It is 2 am on sept 19th here in Tokyo, I upgraded to 10.8.5 and iTunes 11.1 but my iPhone and iPad Mini are still saying there is no update for me. Darn!

Robert it is now 4:00AM in Tokyo and I downloaded and installed it without a hitch. You might want to try it again through iTunes 11. Be sure to connect your device directly to your Mac (not over the air as that can take forever).

Embrace The Ugly!!

Embrace The Ugly!! Install iOS 7!!:apple: It is hideous but at least it is new!! :D I'm downloading it now if their update server doesn't go belly up.

Apple needs to address this.

Apple needs to address the fact that you have a third-party "protective faceplate" on your device?

I would like to see a graph of the energy usage at their server farms. iOS 7 release on a cloudy day at 5977 Startown Road could be a disaster.
