declandio is correct: now that IOS 7 is GM/PR (PR stands for Public Release) you can no longer Downgrade to IOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 because it is no longer being seeded by Apple and will fail the authentication check.

I've been using iOS 7.0 on my iPad for a couple of hours and while I do agree it's a very nice mobile device OS, the culture shock of its non-skeuomorphic graphics and changed controls can be a quite unnerving to those used to iOS 6.x or earlier versions. It's like going from Windows 2000 Professional directly to Windows 7 Professional--on the surface it may look familiar, but start "digging" and you see many major differences.

The reason why you may NOT be having any problems with your IPad is like me you own an IPad 2 (what you own) and/or IPad Mini (what I own).

The people who are reporting problems with their IPads are mainly the 3rd and 4th Gen Full Size IPads.

I really like the new functionality of iOS7 and I don't mind the new animations and transitions, however I really can't forgive the shockingly poor icons and native apps that seem to have lost most of their usability.

iCal one the iPhone looks horrid and year view doesn't show any information about what days are free etc.

The search bars are too easy to miss and look very unfinished, everything looks washed out.

A big deal was made about how the new icons have been designed to fit a new design template, but it doesn't seem to have given them any advantage over how the old icons are laid out and why one earth do some icon backgrounds fade from light to dark and others from dark to light? Where's the consistency in that? Some are really bland and flat, like Notes and Reminders, yet others are not, such as Game Center and Find iPhone.

I'm sorry Jony, but it's just not right this time.

After resolving not to try updating during the first day I checked if the upgrade was available on my iPad and since it was I gave it a shot.

The download on our painfully slow DSL took about 2 hours.

The update worked perfectly. No glitches.

IOS 7 looks absolutely incredible. A total home run. Everything working perfectly so far.

How does Apple so consistently make such fantastic products? I am completely blown away by this awesome new OS.

I am absolutely in awe of this design and engineering achievement. Great work you folks at Apple!!

Well, this is Apple and this is where they're going so I may as well start getting used to the look (updated my iPad yesterday)....that being said. I'd prefer the functional updates of iOS 7 with the old non flat (iOS 6) UI design - by alot.

The flat look, tons of white in applications blasting you in the face and stark contrasts reminds me of the look you see in Windows 8 tile world apps and I'm not a fan of that.

I'm sure Mavericks will do the same thing to my Mac so I may as well get used to the idea that this is where I have to go. But not now, I'm attempting a rollback to iOS 6.1.3 on my iPad (successful so far, restoring apps now) and will write up a post for folks that want to do it if successful.

Although I no longer own an IPhone 4 or 4S, from what I am hearing from you guys is that in order for IOS 7 to run at Peak Performance on an IPhone, you need at least an IPhone 5 at minimal. Tell me if you think that statement is accurate or NOT and I will file a Bug Report with Apple.

As some other 4s owners have commented, it runs very well on the dual core iPhone 4s (runs well on my 4s).

The reviews I've read on blogs have said the single core iPhone 4 may be a stretch to run great in iOS 7, but YMMV...

It's a good idea, but as an FYI there were direct links (to Apple servers) you can use without being in the Dev program that were posted in this thread - I used them yesterday, they were from this page (they were nice and fast as well):

Love the new icons, hate the new music player. It's so retarded that I can't scroll all albums of an artist without actually seeing all the tracks inside the albums. Makes the whole thing so much slower.
I would also appreciate it if Apple could decide on a theme color for music (and preferably, all media content, including video).

iTunes on OS X once had a green icon. Then it became blue. Then we got the music player in iOS which was orange. Now it's red. The only other red icon I see is PhotoBooth. Because... music and PhotoBooth are a pair, like FaceTime/Phone/SMS or Mail/Safari? Yea okay...

Ios7

I have downloaded the new release. However, I have some screens where the icons have greyed out with no indication as to what apps they are. Any clues on how to fix this?

Well, having played with it on the iPad and iPhone now I think it's alright, I would certainly say that iOS has totally lost it's individual identity now though! iOS7 is really just a mash up of iOS and WebOS and Android now.

Actually WebOS did the cards idea better as they were live, but the swipe up to close was stolen straight from WebOS:

But meh, at least it's better than nothing.

Love it.

Just downloaded iOS 7 this morning on my iphone 5. Love the new look and runs buttery smooth on my iphone. Refreshing change from ios 6. Everything seems to be working great!

Going to load it on my iPad 4 tonight.:)

This is one of the things I kinda like about it. Yeah, iOS has lost some of it's differentiating feel, to the point it feels less like an extension of OSX, and more the hyperactive lovechild of a three way between iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. But what you lose in true uniqueness, you gain in functionality.

Despite the occasional performance hits and the animations being a little too verbose (both of which can be fixed), there is a lot to like about iOS7. No, it's not perfect. In fact some of it is downright ugly (that new dock). But it's a good first step towards something a little more complete and well rounded. It needs work, but it's not the end of the world.

...except for all the Photo app issues. There's really no excuse for that.

It's you who are the bigoted one. I never said anything about your sexuality. All I said was that the color scheme is feminine... I didn't call you feminine. You inferred that. I don't think men who wear pastel colors are feminine just because of their color choice. You are the one who seems to think that. I said that the color scheme is a feminine one. That doesn't mean I think someone who likes it is feminine. You need to get that through your thick scull. I'm not judging anyone's choices. You are. Also, I use to work as a costumer in the film business for years. I know a little bit about clothing design and it isn't just cut. Color, pattern, and weave all play a part. I'm really getting sick of defending my integrity over a simple point I was trying to make about a color pallet choice. You all asumed I was homophobic because i said most men wont like the color scheme. Don't you realize that you are making an asumption that gay men would be offended because you think they perfer those colors, or aren't real men. I never even implyed that, nor do I think that. But you infered that. What does that say about you? You should read a little more about the psychology of color and color theory before you assume I'm an insensitive bigot.

There are probably other typos as well. Fix them.

Windows 7 indeed has a better interface than Windows 2000, and it can even work in classic mode which resembles the early 9x design, so this example is wrong.
It's more like going from Windows 7 to the metro Windows 8 with all the flat screens and cubes.

I now expeirience the same disappointment as all the MS users when they were forced into that new "standard".

My take: going in a good direction but a little too flat, the new dock is ugly as hell and some of the icons are atrocious! The functionality however has been improved -- at the cost of some ugly colour swatches and crap icon design.

Might stay with iOS 6 until they release 7.1 or 7.2 and hopefully address some of these things.

I won't put it on my iPhone 4 or iPad. I saw it (iOS 7) on a buddy's phone today...too bright and flat. It really does hurt my eyes. He showed my iMessage and how the messages bounce, it could have made me seasick. I am upgrading my 4 to a 5 and keeping iOS 6. Granted, performance may be better, but appearance shouldn't suffer because of it.

Thanks. I'm having a reall problem with my Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad on my Mac mini ever since the last osx update. That and I was very angry at being insulted all day yesterday. Makes it hard to type. ;)

Rollback iOS 7 to iOS 6.1.3 (or 6.1.4 for iPhone 5)

FYI - Apple stopped signing 6.1.x installs on Sept 21st so rollbacks are no longer possible for stock devices.... Okay, so iOS 7 is great & all (or not) but you've decided that you'd rather say good bye to Wonka Land and be back in iOS 6.1.3 for whatever reason - here's how to do it and its not hard (thank Apple for letting this still work). Do not do a settings backup after the iOS 7 install (if you already did, don't worry about it, just don't do one if you haven't already).

I updated my iPad 3 to iOS 7 yesterday, enjoyed it immensely and rolled it back to iOS 6.1.3 successfully this morning using iTunes 11.1 and a small amount of effort - no activation issues. Apple is activating the 6.1.3/4 installs still but that may not last for long (days perhaps) so if you know you want to roll back, go get it done now, literally, while you can (as soon as Apple stops activating the 6.1.x installs you'll be trapped in iOS 7).

You need to download the iOS 6.1.3 image, this page has direct Apple links to the files (for all iThings except the iPhone 5 which had a 6.1.4 update) - be sure and grab the right image for your iPhone/iPad/iPod and make a note of where its sitting (the file will have an .ipsw file name extension on the end of it):

http://www.redmondpie.com/download-ios-6.1.3-final-for-iphone-ipad-ipod-touch-direct-links/

If you have an iPhone 5 then you want the iOS 6.1.4 image from this page:

http://www.redmondpie.com/download-ios-6.1.4-for-iphone-5-direct-links/

I used iTunes 11.1 for this (not sure whether iTunes 10.7 would work or not...). So, open iTunes and connect your iThing to your system and feel free to stop the synching - select your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (click the button in iTunes 11.1 so your iPhone/iPod etc. is all you see on your iTunes window) and then hold the "alt / option" key while clicking the "Restore iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch" button for the iOS (not your personal app/settings backup button which is separate).

Because you were holding the "alt / option" key, iTunes will prompt you to select the .ipsw file you want to use to restore - navigate to where you downloaded your iPhone/iPad/iPod .ipsw file and select the file, then start the restore, you'll see that 3-D chrome Apple bootup symbol on your device in a few minutes, ahhhhhh....

If you have a settings backup (from before iOS 7) you can choose to have it applied after the iOS 6 image is installed or just tell iTunes your iThing is new and you wont' get the backup Apps and settings applied. After its done you should be good to go.

If you have any trouble (I didn't) there is a nice page dealing with folks rolling back from the 7 beta's to iOS 6.1.3/4 and an occasional issue some user's would run into (they'd have to modify a text file) and might be what you need to look at:

http://readwrite.com/2013/06/13/how-to-downgrade-from-ios-7-beta-back-to-ios-6#awesm=~ohTkxW0MpYiLdZ

Enjoy being back in iOS 6.1.3/4 with the 3-D chrome Apple symbol on boot, actual buttons (not floating text that is a button?), distinct icons, a tame color palette and not so much white scorching your eyeballs out, knowing you can come back to iOS 7 when you want to. Best of luck...(now on to roll back iTunes..)

Definitely not. I resetted settings and restarted, but it´s still slower I am afraid.

Upgraded last night. iPhone 4s
No problems with speed or battery life. (yet)

Todays battery seems to be tracking much like a typical day on 6.X so no complaints there.

I don't mind the update, but it is not a big deal. The "paper Mario" look is ok, but clashes terribly with other icons. The Home screen icon dock looks STUPID when you have a background behind it and they just put a slab of color behind the icons. It should be configurable and transparent.

The Parallax effect is not as nice as a JB 3D effect. It should be configurable.

Functionally everything seems great, but so did 6.X!

The majority of these "great new features" should have been added in "dot" releases.

Other than that, time will tell. I think the camera seems to be taking better pictures, but it is too early to tell. I like the new camera features.

I don't like having to turn on location services to get weather on the notification centre. Why can't it simply pull weather data from the first city page on my Weather app?

If customers know this always happens why would the morons download iOS7 at the SAME damned time worldwide and not progressively????:mad::mad:
Why not wait a few days, will it kill you?

exactly! i'm waiting until next week to update my phone. i'm in no rush at all but people here in my city installed it lastnight and, on my train ride this morning, everyone was flashing it around like OH LOOKY I HAVE iOS 7!

wonderful. but i'm going to wait.

My 4S is fine. The battery drained a little quicker than normal for a couple hours after the install, but after charging to 100%, it's been fine ever since. I chalked it up as background updates/syncing.

Lag wise, I'd say iOS 7 works 'well' on the 4S. Not noticeably slow, but I haven't compared it to my wife's 5 yet.

My 4S is faster than before with most apps, so that´s a welcome news! The animations make it a tad slower, but I love them and I don´t mind the millisecond lag.

I agree. The ease-of-use that was the hallmark of Apple products has suffered due to graphic design of the UI.

That it is visually harder to see/use makes it seems like the end-user experience was not a priority, eye candy aside.

I don´t find it harder to see at all. On the other hand, they have provided with a lot of customisation options in Accessibility for those who want to tweak the new look.

Oh no....

This new design is so not what I espected. My phone somehow feels slower than before.

All these stupid animations, ex. when waking phone, just to see the time, what is up with that?. Just show the screen allready.

And the flat icons, that has no beauty to it. Yeaahh, lets make a retina screen with lots of pixels, and then make icons, that could have been made on a C64.

Sad day.... Oh, and I know well get use to it eventually, but at what cost ?

snowatom

The phone should absolutely NOT feel slower. That has not been my experience with 4S and I hear the 4 is ok too. The animations, parallax and such, can be turned off in accessibility section. The icons are actually quite beautiful but very dependent on the background they are on! I found with some backgrounds they are flat and dull, with others they totally pop out!

----------

You know, between the iOS 7 designers and me using a black wallpaper, I don't think I'm the one who made my phone dull... Have you seen what the actual apps look like now? Look at the SMS overview page.

IMO he has gone too far again with iOS 7.

Yes I do agree about some apps like Messages which are overly minimalistic. I would have loved some apps, like Messages, to be translucent at least to make them more colourful. However this is really my only dislike about iOS7. iOS6 in comparison now looks extremely boring and dull! iOS7 is an explosion of colours, so I find it so much more attractive and fun to use.

And yes the style, fonts and graphic effects are very similar to Android/Windows, downright borrowed from there I would say, but if you look at a Nokia Lumia or Galaxy side-by-side with iOS 7, you can just see how the latter is so much more organised, accessible, elegant and last but not least beautiful. I truly dig Ive´s "layered" approach with iOS7, so for now I can forgive the overly minimalism of some apps...I do hope they get updated in the future though

----------

I don't like having to turn on location services to get weather on the notification centre. Why can't it simply pull weather data from the first city page on my Weather app?

It does. I disabled location services in weather (to save battery life) and just entered my city and set it in the weather app. Now it shows in notifications.

The UI animations jitter on my iPhone 4. The frame rate of the animations is simply too low. Here are some scenarios where it's choppy: when exiting multitasking, brining up the control center on the home screen, the animation after "sliding to unlock" and right before entering the passcode, etc... :(

I know its not because the iPhone 4 is old hardware because it did handle similar animations at a very high frame rate.
Anyone else having these problems on iPhone 4? If yes, please send feedback to Apple!

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Update of apps fail

I have the same problem I have 10 apps that are grey with"waiting" underneath. I did a sync a second time and I get "waiting for changes to be applied" on the iTunes sync page. This has been going on for an hour. I hope someone sends an answer to this problem.

IOS7...it's child's play....or should that be childish? I have tried and tried...but I don't like it.....

I know everyone will fuss and coo how wonderful it is but I really do think it is a case of the Emperor has no clothes!!!!
