UNIX makes it impossible for a quick fix.

iOS 6 is worth keeping for another year. The demand for a classic set of icons is going to be huge but UNIX is not as flexible on the UI front as say Windows.

The problem isn't with his opinion, it's with his claim to speak for men in general, and not just for himself.

Yep, but you know his generalisation is right. I wouldn't mind betting, (and I mean using my own money this time), that taking a poll of men given a choice of colour schemes for paint, clothes, cars, or anything else you can think of that most would not choose pink.
We can debate the reasons for it ad infinitum but that wouldn't change the numbers. Take a day or two and do your own straw poll, (and if after seeing the numbers you still don't believe it, you can tell yourself that the sample you took was too small or whatever else fits).

I can speak for in general if I tell you that a man is usually taller than his wife, really I'm just talking for myself but it doesn't make me wrong, (or right).

Isn't it nice how pretty and fresh they made everything look? Darn shame that many people who don't have great eyesight are forced to again endure tiny fonts on main menus with no ability to natively have a choice for less icons and icon title text per a screen.

I have owned iPhones up to the 4s. I am ready to start looking elsewhere to a get a cell phone that is more about function over form. (I am sure many may dislike my comment but come on - would it hurt Apple to have some consideration and include a real larger icon/text and menu choice option built into the OS? - Even the iPad as large as it is has menu choices on the bottom in tiny fonts... The enlarge font option doesn't cover the standard menu options and that is a serious oversight.)

If anyone enjoys the new IOS, I am happy for them. It simply isn't for me and other people who are tired of having to squint or put on glasses to just navigate the darn phone.

Option + Click on "Restore" button. You can select the recent .ipsw you want

If you say so. Please do give it a try!

You can't downgrade- unless you know what you're doing and are still in the window do apple to 'sign' previous versions. The fact that you had to ask, implies that you would screw it up even if it was possible.

Oh no....

This new design is so not what I espected. My phone somehow feels slower than before.

All these stupid animations, ex. when waking phone, just to see the time, what is up with that?. Just show the screen allready.

And the flat icons, that has no beauty to it. Yeaahh, lets make a retina screen with lots of pixels, and then make icons, that could have been made on a C64.

Sad day.... Oh, and I know well get use to it eventually, but at what cost ?

snowatom
I don't mind the icons becoming flatter. What I do mind is that they've been drained of color. The arrangement on my iPhone 4S home screen is:
Calendar - Reminders - Notes - Clock
Contacts - Maps - Camera - Settings
App folder row 1
App folder row 2

My eyesight isn't too good anymore but I used to get by pretty well without glasses, but what I see now at a glance is:
4 white blobs,
4 grey blobs,
4 grey blobs,
4 grey blobs.

It's almost as if these icons weren't created by people with experience in UI and interaction design, but by designers who work in print and web for the marketing division. Oh wait, that's exactly what happened.

Thanks mate.... Wasn't sure if it was a bug.

I wonder if people have had to bring the display brightness right down to be able to use their iPads? (I did)

On the plus side ... I should see increased battery life

I have auto brightness on and it works very well!

I've been skimming this stupid thread, how laggy is iOS 7 on the 4s & "The New iPad"/iPad3?

I have an Iphone 4S. It is not only NOT lagging, but it´s faster than it was on iOS6! The only slow down is to allow for the animations when you open apps or go back to the home screen, but it´s a millisecond and I enjoy the visual effects. Other than that, everything is snappier, including Siri, Safari and even Twitter app. However mine was SO slow in the beginning, so make sure you do all the usual steps: restart, perhaps reset settings, proper sync, etc...

I don't mind the icons becoming flatter. What I do mind is that they've been drained of color.

Because they are built with layers in mind, they are on purpose somewhat translucent and transparent, so try to use a rich coloured background to enhance their visibility!

I'm in Europe and it went live at 7pm local (1pm Eastern US)......

Why would these morons release iOS7 at the SAME dam time worldwide and not progressively????:mad::mad:

Slooooooooooooooow download and fearing activation dam it!
There's this nifty thing called time zones. It helps distribute the load since some parts of the world are sound asleep when other parts are at work/school while yet other parts are enjoying their evening.

What throws sand into the clockwork is that Apple commands a global zombie moron army that will claw their way to the update by leaving work/school or getting up at 2 AM...

Amazon is an entirely different beast altogether. They have server farms spread all over the world costing untold amounts of money and comprised of tens/hundreds of thousands of servers, storage units, backup systems, switches, routers and firewalls, and they earn billions with said equipment.

https://www.google.com/search?q=ama...4ASAvYFg&ved=0CE8QsAQ&biw=1600&bih=1064&dpr=1

Apple's iTunes datacenters are also huge, but nobody in their right mind would mix services and do something like putting iOS update files on servers otherwise needed to serve music, movies and books out to millions of paying customers.

So they built a separate system which doesn't have the incredible capacity of iTunes or Amazon, but serves the purpose of doling out software updates.

I upgraded this morning. First impressions are good. I like the swipe to close apps, the way photo's are organised and the swipe up to access BT, Airplay etc. At first, I found the stark white background in the mail app a little too bright, but it makes sense when you start typing on it..I've made far fewer typos using the new scheme.

Music is also well laid out, so over all I'd give Apple a 9 out of 10 for the new OS. Some things that have been added have been available in Android for quite a while, but they've done a good job.

My IP5 is just as fast as it was before, no lags etc, and pages on the web are easier to read. I'm eager to get my hands on my 5S to see just how it performs!

The camera app's re-design also meets with my approval, with the features available as a scrolling gesture...much better!

I have never and will never, ever use "rich colored backgrounds" on any display that I have to look at for more than 5 minutes of my life. What kind of satanic masochist do you take me for?

The first thing I always do after unboxing a new computer/phone/tablet or installing a new system on it, is to projectile vomit my guts out in reaction to whatever garish, unsightly Fisher-Price-colored landscape - animal - starfield - closeup of plants image that the manufacturer chose as the default background because they hate their customers and want them to suffer and die in agony.

After all the traumatic puking is done and I'm released from the hospital, I replace the wallpaper from hell with a muted, low-contrast image where the darkest is black and the brightest is graphite.

There was probably never an operating system more ill suited for bright background images than iOS7, because the bright icons and the anorexic white text have lost their drop shadows. As a result, anything bright behind them just devours them completely. Like I said, my eye sight isn't what it used to be, it happens to most people after 40 even if they never needed glasses before. White text and white icons on white isn't going to help me there. If I need a flashlight I'll use the flashlight function, thanks.

After resolving not to try updating during the first day I checked if the upgrade was available on my iPad and since it was I gave it a shot.

The download on our painfully slow DSL took about 2 hours.

The update worked perfectly. No glitches.

IOS 7 looks absolutely incredible. A total home run. Everything working perfectly so far.

How does Apple so consistently make such fantastic products? I am completely blown away by this awesome new OS.

I am absolutely in awe of this design and engineering achievement. Great work you folks at Apple!!

I just found a very effective feature that will sort of bring the old familiar
iOS 6 fonts, for all of us that are above 40 and find it hard to read the skinny
font.

Maybe it has been already said, but I will repeat :

In Settings > General > Accessibility, turn on the "Bold Text" toggle, then reboot.

Welcome back iOS 6 fonts.

There is indeed an utterly boring black background you can choose in the new iOS7 wallpapers. Try that and see if it brings a bit of the dullness of iOS6 back ;) snark aside, try different combinations and see what works best for you, but my point was that the folders are translucent so the background changes their aspect dramatically

Love the new icons, hate the new music player. It's so retarded that I can't scroll all albums of an artist without actually seeing all the tracks inside the albums. Makes the whole thing so much slower.

You´re right! That IS a bit strange and confusing :/

I'm already quite old. Though you seem to think my point is a juvenile one. Let me be clear. The color scheme is not going to appeal to most men. It just isn't. Even open minded liberal men like myself.

You can try darker backgrounds..... for a different look

Installed in 4s. Gonna say runs the same speed, no difference in battery drain. It's better than IOS 6 in that it has control center and gmail now has contacts added and the notification system is much improved. Hate all the white though so its pretty ugly almost everywhere but don't think I would go back to IOS 6 though. I like to change brightness often and going into settings to do that before was a nightmare. Let's see how much they fix this all up. One thing I noticed in Accessibility settings is you can invert the colors. When this is on all the menus turn black. Problem is all colors in the whole system are inverted. Wish they just had a setting to change the white system colors to invert and not every color. Black is not only easier to read but uses less battery.

Hey guys, do you think we could knock off the Free Video Apple Advertisements? I logged in to this website at around 06:00 Central Daylight Time (Chicago) and if it weren't for the fact that I am downstairs in the Basement taking cover from a Strong T-Storm, I probably would have woken up my entire family!

I logged in to this website at around 06:00 Central Daylight Time (Chicago) and if it weren't for the fact that I am downstairs in the Basement taking cover from a Strong T-Storm, I probably would have woken up my entire family!

Forgot to mention that I am referring to the Video on the Macrumors.com Home Page.

What on earth is happening at Apple!

Its only my opinion but lets look at the facts:

* Previously glorious, expandable Powermacs, redesigned to resemble un-upgradable toilet roll holders ... available when??? (A two fingered salute to all previous power users!)

* An Ipod Mini range whose colours were designed by a clown, no updates to the classic and the current touch way over priced

* Apple TV - now just a folly it seems

* Mac mini - the chance to build the ultimate under TV entertainment system lost by Apples inability to have the bright idea of simply adding a Blue ray drive and TV tuner

* Lack of focus on previously core software tittles like iWeb and iDVD

* An iPad range that whilst still the market leader, shows no inspirational qualities or leading edge features to compete against the new wave of competitor products

* The iPhone 5C which completely goes against its original brief of being a low cost phone ... and puts a dint in all those naysayers arguments re plastic Galaxy S4 back covers!

* The 5S which still fails to capitalise on the larger screens people DO want!

... and now the IOS which IS a blatant copy of Android ... but a very bad one at that!

I'm not trolling, if the truth hurts then so be it. Apple and Ive have got too big for their boots; and perhaps not taken their eye off the ball, but no longer have 'the eye' to create as they once did (come back Steve Jobs!). I'm sorry, but the under dog that was Apple no longer exists, and the stuff their churning out now is just bad bad bad.

Please tell me if you dont agree; am I missing something here?

To all those that aren't happy with the new IOS, come on guys ... don't you think it would have been sensible to hold off and see a few reviews from other users first before diving straight in (as I (thank god!) did - thus rendering my iPad mini still useable (and 3GB better off!))

It seems Apple fan boys are so brainwashed, they'll jump off a cliff before even asking why!

Enjoy the Apple products that suit your lifestyle, but don't blindly follow something that doesn't deliver (thats called a cult!)

You mean the mesh? Too bright, too busy, too uniform. :)

You know, between the iOS 7 designers and me using a black wallpaper, I don't think I'm the one who made my phone dull... Have you seen what the actual apps look like now? Look at the SMS overview page. It looks like something out of Windows 3.1. Rule of thumb: If your design is so dull that it can actually be FAXED and come out the other end looking like the original, your design is... pretty damn dull.

Jony Ive has an almost primordial obsession with reduction, which has led to an output of many elegant and sleek products over the years. But sometimes he goes too far. Like the time he reduced the iPod Shuffle to a buttonless stick. That one flopped so bad, Apple had to revert to the previous design.

IMO he has gone too far again with iOS 7.

Although I no longer own an IPhone 4 or 4S, from what I am hearing from you guys is that in order for IOS 7 to run at Peak Performance on an IPhone, you need at least an IPhone 5 at minimal. Tell me if you think that statement is accurate or NOT and I will file a Bug Report with Apple.

Very good tip. Thanks! Don't know if iOS 7 has some design flaws or I'm getting old. Lol. But, this definitely improved things.
