It's slightly taller than other phones but not massively bigger than phones like the Note or Oneplusone.

The problem is in the design they used one large piece of soft malleable metal for the back with no reinforcement inside. Every other big phone has some sort of framework inside for the back or uses several smaller pieces for better structural strength. That's a design fault, people put phones in their pockets and a company releasing a phone no matter the size should be aware of that.

The "Guy" in the video does this with all phones it's part of a series of testing he does, he has done it with many big phones only the 6+ had such drastic bending.

Man it's so bizarre how people treat multinational corporations like religions these days.

If a TV company put out a TV that broke if you sat in front of it no one would be making excuses, if a cable company put out an update that stopped you being able to watch TV no one would make excuses for them. The opposite would be true there would be a massive stink and everyone would condemn them but no with Apple the cultists come out.

Dang twice today I been called fanboy, Apple religious, etc. LOL Just boggles me that this day and time someone can buy HOT coffee from a fast food place, spill it and its the restaurants fault. Or take an electronic device, NOT use the cases that are made to carry them on a belt or where ever, choose to shove them into a pocket and when they bend blame the company that made the device. No where is it recommended or stated that its ok carry phones in your pocket. And common since would dictate that the larger the device the more likely the chance of damage. Thin, lightweight, aluminum devices are going to bend if subjected to pressure. That is simple physics. Yet its a "design flaw". We demand giant screen but thin and lightweight then complain when they bend easier than the old steel phones we used to carry.

On a side note, notice how times have changed? We had giant cell phones way back with the huge antennas, wanted them smaller and smaller, now we are wanting them bigger and bigger again. Wonder how many people put those huge, 1st, way back, when cell phones in their pockets and complained when they broke? hmmm how did they carry those things around anyway?

I've also worked in software development in enterprise environments, and this sort of silence is unacceptable. Even if they don't know what's wrong they should have a time table. Or instructions. Or something.

So by "unnaceptable" you mean what? That you're going to be returning your phone? Not buying more Apple stuff?

Nope. You'll line up for the privelege of buying the NEXT thing that will do something you find "unnaceptable".

Wag your finger from behind a computer though...

That'll show em!

Bravo?

I mean that whoever screwed up should pay the appropriate penalty.
I mean that Apple should be forthcoming telling us what happened, how they will prevent it in the future, and, in appropriate cases, recompensing people for any damage caused by their incompetence.

Come on... the iPad was never designed or marketed to be put into your pocket. The iPhone always was. That's what the "P" in "iPhone" stands for!

Common sense? People are spending 800 bucks for a phone. Where's the common sense in THAT?

But... even the venerable iPhone5 could be bent on occasion. Put a case on the phone. Almost any case will help alleviate bending to some degree, and the sturdier ones will almost eliminate it.

LOL now THAT makes since. Always wondered about that P, you sure its not for "Pocket"? I thought it was for "Portable" since all those devices are. (iPad, iPod, iPhone)

Maybe Apple should have named that 6Plus an iPhablet, then it would be acceptable to NOT think it has to be carried in your pocket because its not a phone then. :)

So will the 8.0.1 download stay on our devices forever, ready to install? Or will the OS eventually delete it to free up space?
you can remove it from settings>usage

Simple. "We think we'll have a fix by tonight, that you can download tonight over the air. In the meantime, go to this link and follow the directions from a windows computer or mac running iTunes if you can't wait. If that's not an option for you, bring the phone to an Apple Store and bypass the genius lines."
I completely disagree. What if they don't provide a fix by tonight? Then you've set the wrong expectation. Better to provide a timetable when you KNOW. Not when you hope.

As for other communication I agree. Anything would be better than the bit of info we got from some random guy through a tweet.

Is this the iOS 8.0.1 thread or are we just talking about other random topics already have other threads and have been discussed and rehashed over and over already?

For those who need to get the ispw file, I am hosting all the iPhone models for iOS 8 at https://copy.com/1GOtP6Vz0DRL

For those who need to delete the update from your device: Go to Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage from there click the update and you can delete it in the window that pops up.

For Restore:
Press in iTunes (Mac: Option/Alt) (Windows: Shift) when pressing restore and locate where you saved the IPSW file and select that for the update. Model list for the iPhones are below with my hosting link (copy.com) and Apple's official servers to know which one you need.

For DFU and restore (Total wipe):

1. Based on the model number of your iPhone, you will be able to identify which iOS firmware file you need to download. You can find model number on the iPhone’s back cover.

iPhone 4s Model Number(s): A1387 ; A1431
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone4,1_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5 Model Number: A1428
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone5,1_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5 Model Number(s): A1429 ; A1442
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone5,2_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5c Model Number(s): A1456 ; A1532
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone5,3_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5c Model Number(s): A1507 ; A1516 ; A1526 ; A1529

iPhone 6 Plus Model Number(s): A1522 ; A1524
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone7,1_8.0_12A366_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 6 Model Number(s): A1549 ; A1586
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone7,2_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

ALTERNATE LINK: https://copy.com/1GOtP6Vz0DRL (I'm hosting the above listed files as it appears apple servers are slow.)

2. Plug your device into your computer

3. Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping it off

4. Hold the power button for 3 seconds

5. Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds

6. Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode.

7. Now hold down the (Mac Option/Alt) (Windows: Shift) Key and click on the Restore button. In the navigation sheet that appears locate the ipsw file you just downloaded and click Choose. Again, this will wipe out all the data on it so be sure to have a backup.

8. Be patient and wait for the installation process to be completed by iTunes

9. Once the restore is completed you can select your backup or treat the device as a new device.

Here’s another important note (which Windows users should pay particular attention to; also, this is something that only applies if the user chooses to look for the desired IPSW file on the Internet). Your browser may change the IPSW file into a .zip file. For example, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer does this, if used to download the firmware bundle. This doesn’t mean it’s unusable. Instead of wasting time switching web browsers, just rename the file to end in “.ipsw” and iTunes will accept it.

For Restore and if the Device times out:
If your device times out during the restore sync after the software is reloaded back on, uplug the device via USB and replug it back in. It should then continue to sync again.

Oh for goodness sake. This is a ridiculous level of fanboyism. Everyone carries their phones in their pocket. We're not going to go back to the 90s where people carried their pagers on belt clips.

Phones around the same size as the 6+ such as the Note 3 and G3 do not bend as easily or to anywhere near the same extent as the 6+. People have done the comparisons:

You know this is MacRumors right, and what are you doing here? Fanboyisum is that a word? If you own something other than the iPhone you are in the wrong forum and you are just stirring the pot for no reason.
