I guess I'm a bit more cynical...shouldn't these things have been in the original 8.0 release? Why did the process break down so badly that made it necessary to release an update so soon after a major release?

The iOS 8 release is tied to the iPhone 6 release (they cannot release the iPhone 6 without iOS 8, it requires it). And hardware launches have a much more fixed time schedule. In this case it was even tied to the iPhone 6 event (Apple normally presents a new iPhone on a Tuesday, then gives out review units with an embargo for the following Wednesday and then launch the phone on the Friday after that, ie, 10 days after its public reveal). And that event itself needed advanced planning, from inviting people, scheduling U2, reserving the venue etc. The iOS 8 release date was probably decided upon at least one month in advance.

Yeah same thing here "No Service" hopefully they fix it. It scared the **** out of me!

If you download the 'My Roll' app you can pretty much replicate it.

That said, I doubt Apple will bring it back. The functionality really is duplicated in other areas.

I might try it in the future but I shouldn't have to download an app to provide basic functionality that has always been there. I filled out the online bug report form and emailed Tim Cook and Craig Federighi.

Soooo glad I didn't update yet! D: I guess they'll either be releasing an 8.0.2 in a few hours rereleasing 8.0.1 with a different build.

Nice Job Apple, thanks for busting out a much needed update so quickly.

Just the little things like Cell service we need now. Thanks!

Even Apple may not be able to solve the problem of a 200 pound butt pressing down on a piece of thin metal.

You are seriously underestimating American girthity. Maybe that's one if the core reasons for buttgate. Most people in Silicon Valley are pretty healthy and slim. It wouldn't surprise me if the Average Apple Cupertino Employee has no idea what the Average American looks like these days.

This year around, it seems like the iOS updates take longer to download and install! I seemed like it use to be quicker than this.

*waits patiently*
