How about a fix for the disappearing notifications (at least from whatsapp) that come 2 or 3 seconds after you lock the phone...

I think it happens to me when people use different devices to reply back (e.g. start the chat on iPhone, but respond w/ iPad, or Messages on MBP.) If your contacts don't have all pieces of your info tied together (i.e. phone number, email address, secondary email address), then you may appear as two different people to them, thus breaking out a new chat window.

Interesting, when thinking about the people in the groups that this has happened to there are a couple people who frequently use different devices.

i hope it fixes the group iMessage error that causes two separate group threads to spawn from one. I think this happens when someone tries to name the group ex: "family"

has anyone else experienced this?

This happens when someone in your family does not have iOS 8.x+ installed.

Is this only for a fix regarding the ringtone bug? Or does it fix other bugs?

The note states "This release includes bug fixes AND addresses a problem where ringtones.............."

So I would say yes it fixes other things as well.

Whenever Apple releases new iOS builds, I always come here first and read through the comments to see if anyone's phone has been bricked because of it.

It's kind of sad that's what I have to do now to guarantee I won't lose a day of productivity while I wait for a workaround, or another patch to fix the patch.

Well, given that the last two updates nearly bricked my phone (I had to do a full restore from backup - hmmm, should I check for non-Apple songs?), I'll be cautious about updating again in the future. (Dear Apple, you broke my trust in you).

It's terrible that Apple are releasing these updates to fix issues. No software is perfect.

You're missing the point. I have no problems w/ them fixing the issues and I'm aware that no software is perfect.

I've never even heard about this issues and I hang around Apple-related forums and websites quite a bit. However, I and many others have a ridiculously long laundry list of iOS 8 bugs that haven't even been addressed. How about all the crashing? My 6 Plus many times can't even switch from one Safari tab to the next without the last one reloading when you go back. I don't even remember my original iPhone with 128MB of RAM being that bad. Furthermore there are tons of other glitches, like white text overlaying the black status bar text sometimes, rotating video glitches on the Plus, problems with reachability not activating (sometimes it just stops for several minutes and then works fine), or reachability not even working with quick reply which means I can't reach the send button, or the Touch ID dialog screen sometimes freezes up the phone with a dark overlay that makes it impossible to touch anything, or iCloud Photo Library that has never worked, or the shoddy WiFi issues on the Air 2, or problems with slow-mo videos sometimes not recording in slow-mo, or that my share sheets sometimes still lose the order I've set the icons to, and several other things that I can't even recall at the moment. My iPhone 5 on iOS 7 was much better (software-wise) than my iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 8. Otherwise the 6 Plus has a gorgeous display, amazing camera, and looks really great.

Wow, my wife just complained yesterday about her ringtone disappearing and I could not figure out why. I guess I found the answer.

Sames here. I went through the iTunes process and listed the problem as "could not be found" and they immediately sent it as an available download. Glad it's fixed!

Damn, they just can't get iOS 8 right at all. Just imagine next year (software year) when iOS 9 comes out. :(

It just takes time...and lots of point releases - any time you have a complicated OS getting serious functionality updates. Just before 9 comes out 8 should be in pretty good shape.

Back when there was only OS X, I'd wait close to a year with every release for things to get "fixed" before upgrading and avoid most of the pain.

That said, I'd be very much in favor of a Snow Leopard (only fixes) type release for iOS.

Jus updated......so far so good

Maybe I'm imaging it but seems to have fixed 3rd party keyboard issue with I

Ugh!!! Wishful thinking....issue still there for me :(

I am wondering what other bug fixes does the ios 8.1.2 offer other than the missing ringtone fix.

I haven't experienced this issue exactly but something I find to be similar. I would encourage you and any participants in your group chat to make sure that new iMessage conversations are started from the same phone number (or email) on all of their devices. (Settings > Messages > Send & Receive)

I was having 2 separate conversation windows going with my friend until I had him change this. I chose to send messages to his phone number and if he replied it would stay phone number to phone number. But if he started the conversation it would come from his email to my phone number, thus creating a separate chat window.

It's sadder that you apparently think you shouldn't have to do that, for a device important to your workflow.
