Apple Releases iOS 8.1 With Apple Pay Support, SMS Relay, Camera Roll, and More

Just added a Citi card to ApplePay (done via passbook). It had to send a text with an activation code on file to verify my identity, but the process took about 2 minutes. About to go try it on a vending machine at work that supposedly takes NFC. Report back in a few minues.

The selecting type of cellular data is huge for me: my room gets 5 bars of 2G but barely and 3/4G. I'm on wifi anyway but the low signal strength killed by battery. This is awesome!

This is available almost everywhere in Canada.

I'm pretty sure there needs to be some sort of configuration from the terminals in the store

No, terminals don't need to be changed at all. The backend changes are in place at the card issuing banks. Any NFC terminals will work with Apple Pay in the US.

All of you that are like, "Nope Apple. Not downloading because of 8.0.1. Fool me twice? Same on me!!".....you need to stop. Mistakes happen. The existance of human error happens but in the same defense, Apple will assure that that sort of scenario doesn't happen again since a lesson was learn from that error.

This instilled fear this entire country has for anything that's bigger them themselves is ridiculous and needs to stop. Download the damn update. It fixes a lot of important issues and brings new revolutionary issues. If there's an issue---Apple would surely be more than trained after last time on how to fix it. It's a phone....not your life. It can be fixed and easily.

As far as my update goes, iOS 8.1 is incredible.

wish i had apple pay! where is that watch so i can use it with my 5s! hahahahah.:apple::apple::apple:

No, it doesn't need any configuration on the NFC terminals themselves.

But the backend network used by Visa, Mastercard, AMEX and others needs to be updated, which is not the case now in Canada.

Once enabled, all existing NFC terminals will work with Apple pay (and there's a lot of those already in Canada).

Just installed on my 6 and preparing update on my 6 Plus.

Here are some screenshots:

Really hoping my bank supports Apple Pay or will soon. I'm at a smaller regional credit union but they're good about being on top of things.

Finally!

Done! 8.1 on my 5s! Strange... Apple Pay didn't work for me at MacDonalds. I had to borrow money from the guy standing behind me to pay for that cup of Coke.

No, don't download yet. Wait until I'm done, please.

I hope they implement this soon here! I almost always have my phone out anyway, it'd be great to be able to pay that way.

Good luck with that. I have a feeling there will be a lot of unhappy people trying this at stores that have not signed on with Apple pay.

Wow. You just keep spreading misinformation. Even McDonald's stated today they did absolutely nothing to support Apple Pay. It already worked with their terminals. The changes were done at the banks that issue the cards. NFC terminals don't need to be updated. And companies did not "sign on with Apple pay". Apple is just listing the ones that work with Apple Pay. There is no agreement with Apple Pay with the companies using the terminals because Apple is not involved in that part of the transaction.
