So... any word on performance of iOS 8.1 on iPhone 4S and iPad 2? Or is still killing them under giliter for features we can't use?

My iPad 2 is definitely better. Not as good as 7.1.2 but much better than 8.0.2. Its actually useable again.

I need 2.2GB of free space to install a 128 MB update??? Apple really has to figure this out. I shouldn't have to clear a bunch of space each time I want to do an OTA upgrade. I'll use my computer this time instead of deleting a bunch of stuff like I did a month ago with 8.0, but this is really getting to be annoying.

Buy a larger phone or use a cable. Or keep whining, but that is getting old here.

Anyone brave enough to see if Apple fixed the "reset all settings wipes your iCloud documents" bug?

It makes sense that that's the number they woudl want if asked. But it doesn't make sense that they need a number at all. I'm not understanding why they would want it. And if it's gratuitous checking of info, this is the kinda stuff that will inhibit apple pay adoption...

Maybe it if you buy a porsche on your credit card... Extra verification ;-).

That was fixed a day after the iOS 8.0 release. Having a number of devices, I've used that Reset a number of times.

very odd. i have no clue then.
mine is in a three button portion under privacy. after privacy comes:

iCloud
itunes and app store
passport & apple pay

then the next set starts with mail/contacts/calendars.

do you have a passport app?

I do have pass(book) app, but tried the method above and there is not even a "+" sign in the top right of the app. Also my settings main page is missing the "passport & apple pay" option you described.

I have an iCloud account for my photos and such, and even a separate iCloud email address as well. Touch ID has been set up since day 1. My credit card info in iTunes is also current and functioning perfectly fine. No clue.

Went to my local verizon store and they were of course no help, so I guess it is the woeful visit to the apple store for me....

- If anyone is having this issue as well it would be good to know; perhaps there is a workaround.

Fixes an issue in where we keep repeating ourself

Can some confirm that iOS 8.1 will work with iTunes 11.4

I'm concerned that it will only work with iTunes 12 which I can not run.

Just installed 8.1 on a mini 2 from iTunes 11.4. Only oddity was it showed 802 as the new OS. But when I hit restore and all the approval screens started popping up, it changed to and installed 8.1.

Had three flawless, nearly instant transactions with Apple Pay today, including the vending machines at a company division cafeteria. Upload of my cards was smooth and easy. The 6 Plus animations and landscape-portrait transitions are perfect now, everything seems even more snappy overall.

Well done, iOS team.

Now downloading for my semi-crippled iPad Retina.

Edited to add: iPad 3 much better now.

Well, updating it DFUed my iPhone 5 and there was no way out. I had to go to a conference right after the update... I hope it's not representative of the quality of iOS 8.1 !

Nothing in Settings regarding Passport or Apple Pay. Only iCloud & iTunes/App Store tab. Also dont have the ability to toggle the new 2G/3G/LTE option...

Software Update in General definitely states that I'm on 8.1 so I'm stumped right now.

Do you have a US based iTunes/Apple ID? If your AppleID is tied to a foreign iTunes Store perhaps that's why you don't see the options.

Wow, for the first time ever (and I have done every single update to every single version of iOS since 1.0) my update failed. I updated OTA and came back to my phone and it had the plug in to iTunes icon on it. I plugged in to iTunes and iTunes keeps erroring out and won't download the update.

Problem using MicroCell and VoIP

Posted a Bug to the Dev forums.

Anyone with MicroCells BEWARE:
Immediately after the update to 8.1, anytime the phone is used on a MicroCell the voice call already in place will not allow the person on the other end to hear almost immediately after 1 minute of use. The call still stays active and I can hear the person on the other end speaking, however they cannot hear me. When you try to end the call, the call hangs and eventually stays in call ended state, then says failed. This has happened 10 times since I have been home using my AT&T MicroCell. When the person tries to call back it immediately goes to Voice mail. When trying to call back the person on my end, it just hangs on "calling iPhone" and never connects even after 2 minutes.

This is a VERY bad thing for people who rely on the MicroCell in poor coverage areas. This presents connection issues for cellular and can pose a liability on Apple if an emergency happens and you cannot make a call through the MicroCell, or have to disconnect the MicroCell jeopardizing the ability to receive or make calls.....

Updated iPhone 5 with 16 GB here... Update from 8.0.2 to 8.1 went smooth with iTunes 11.4 on Mac. No problems at all.

Weird glitch, when iPhone restarted after updating to 8.1, iTunes told me that an update to 8.1 was available and asked if I wanted to download it or install it... Lol... I'm like that's what I just did.

Clicked "Later" and phone came up showing 8.1

Did a backup of the phone right before update, and it synchronized again after update. Funny, Apple just gave me more free space. I had 3.85 GB free before the update, and 5.02 GB free after updating to 8.1

Checked and everything is still there... nothing missing.. All my data still intact

So, thanks Apple for a update that increased free space.

Only complaint... Battery life sucks now... I just know that in the 30 seconds since I disconnected it from my computer, that the phone has dropped 0.000000001 percent in battery life. I can just feel it. LOL, just kidding

Smooth update here, enjoy :D

So is AT&T not allowing the 2G/3G/LTE toggle?

Doesn't appear to. Not that it makes a lot of sense since I think AT&T is getting rid of or has gotten rid of 2G and they'd prefer people not to use 3G. Without 2G though, the "Enable LTE" is effectively a 3G/4G toggle as well.

Just upgraded ipad Air. So far so good.

Just upgraded my iPad air from 7.1.2 to 8.1. After all the horror stories I was a little scared but so far I'm really liking it. The new safari is brilliant. I love that apple (unlike everyone else who tries to implement this type of full screen) realizes people scroll up while reading (aka people don't actually read in a linear fashion even though we think we do). The small delay before scrolling up reveals the address bar is brilliant.

Speed seems the same. New keyboard works. My first major iOS upgrade is a success :D

(I realize I'm probably stating the obvious but just incase anyone with an ipad air was holding off like me)

There's reports that iCloud photo library is compressing photos and videos stored in iCloud.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6614540

Also with iCloud Photo library enabled, it appears My PhotoStream photos are removed from the device. This can be confirmed by going to the local Storage usage setting and checking Photos and Camera Roll. I'm not sure if photos are still uploaded to My PhotoStream or. It.

There's also some reports that not all photos are being uploaded. That was a common problem with My PhotoStream and poor Wifi networks.

Sucks that Apple Pay is US only for now. I know it's going to take some time to really roll it out, was just hoping I could at least ADD my cards. Just because.

8.1 should be 8.03

Well I'm not normally negative but 8.1 is kinda disappointing. Hand Off sucks. When I start an e mail
on my Mac, I get the icon on my iPh6, but when I go to open I get error cocoa 4609. When I start an mail on my iPh6 I get zip on my Mac. When I try with text, I get the person's text screen come up, but no text I have written, really seems like a Beta product.
Apple pay in 8.1 don't mean **** if your outside the US. No menu no ability to set up. I was under the impression that the NFC would still work with existing NFC payment systems around the world. Here in Australia we won't have Apple Pay in any shops any time this year.
I have Camera Roll back.......wahoo.

Pretty lame
