Gah, Apple, stop messing with the damn keyboard. In the past if you held down ",!" the single quote would popup and be selected on a long hold... now you have to long hold and swipe.

So you're saying the graphic designers who are doing the emoji images should be fixing Wi-Fi performance issues as an example? Sorry bud, software development doesn't work that way.

You are taking tidbits out of context to make NO point. I am very familiar with what is involved in creating artwork. Obviously creative artists do not work on Wi-Fi issues, as much as Wi-Fi specialists do not create EMOJI.

If you want to go into more detail:
The creator of the art needs to get customer(Apple) input or if in house directive from somebody, i.e. some manager has to take time to tell them what they would like to see. Send e-mail , meet etc.
The artist then creates the art and has to show it to somebody at Apple to get it approved. It may take a few phases with initial ideas and then refinement until accepted.
Whoever reviews it has to spend time to do so, which takes away time from other tasks.

If the artist is only the creator and the EMOJI has to be programmed to be included in a library and made available in the system software another person is involved.

All the involved persons get PAID for their time and except for the artist they may have other responsibilities.

I am just questioning if spending time on (for me) useless stuff is really well spent by Apple.

You never answered about memory in our devices these take up etc.

No poster here is telling Apple or users what to do , but when we have an opinion we post it.

And my opinion is that developing EMOJI with all that is involved is a waste of time
that could be better spent.

PS: Check out the posts of people saying they do not use them or would like to delete 80% of EMOJI.

There was a point - having graphic designers work on emoji is NOT taking away from developers working on the core software to make it better. Would you rather pay someone to sit around doing nothing, or instead be working on something that at least some people want? If it was totally useless, it would not be included in the Unicode standard in the first place.

I don't think anybody at Apple would sit around doing nothing.
Some of the artists may be free lancers , so not having to pay them for EMOJI saves money.

As to what some people want: We really need 100s of EMOJI, because we can't just type :) or :(
or what we want to say?

And, if somebody WANTS EMOJI I think they have some psychological issues that have to be treated.

The unicode standard doesn't decide what is useful or useless. They just streamline things, so we don't end up with VHS, VHS-C, Beta , 8mm and all kinds of different standards.

And there we get into the meat of all, where someone who doesn't care about something and/or doesn't get it thinks that others who do have some sort of issues. That pretty much tells everything that needs to be known right there.

I can't find any hand symbols:
"introducing a range of new emoji like taco, burrito, cheese wedge, middle finger, champagne bottle, unicorn head, and more.
I don't see these new ones. I do see some, but I want to find the unicorn head and the middle finger. Help me find this please.
Wait... I found it. Yippiekiyay.

I wish I could delete ALL the emojis since I never use any of them.
You can remove them from appearing in the keyboard (using keyboard settings) so that they don't take up space there and you don't even accidentally get to them. Doesn't get rid of them from being on the device somewhere within the OS, but that's not really all that consequential.

Ya know, now that you mention it, I did see 5 or 6 demo iPhones at the Apple Store that were off. Didn't think much of it. Just thought someone shut them off or they died.
iPhones cant stay shut off while plugged up. Thats what tipped me of. All those phones were plugged up.

Regarding red text, I actually didn't post it that way. You may have responded to another post.

You don't seem to get my point and it is not related to tell others what they need or use.

EMOJI take up memory. Designing artwork for them takes up resources at Apple's design studio. (If it is correct that Apple designs these icons)
Looking through them to find a specific one takes time, when I can just type :-(
EMOJI are not a feature in my book.

If I had a company I would tackle EMOJI development only when everything I was doing was perfect and I was bored out of my skull. Apple does this EMOJI stuff to be on par with all the other competitors.

I guess you are young, which is why I posted my "old fart" standpoint.

Lived all my life without EMOJI and believe it or not I can still say and show what I feel in words. :)

I made the text red simply to highlight it.

I like emojis and most of the people I know use them regularly. Maybe it's a generational thing, I don't know. To each his own though :). Cheers!

My iPhone 6 is about the same with 9.1. A little zippier glad it didn't slow things down. Overall an ok update. I'm updating my iPad mini now. That needs the improvement

Let us know how the Mini does on 9.1. I'm updating mine right now so I'm hoping the major lag goes away or at least lessens in severity.

I have a 6plus and its still no where near as smooth as IOS 8 was. Still laggy and slow. Still wish I had never updated. My wife is still on IOS 8 on her 6plus and comparing the two side by side it is a noticeable difference. My days of immediately updating are over. Apple just isn't as good as they used to be when it comes to software. Sad.

Yep, it's pretty disappointing for an OS update for which one of the key tenants is performance. Luckily I rolled back to 8.4.1 while I was still able to on my 6+. I'm following the progression of iOS9 on a colleague's 6+ in the office and performance is still not where I would like it.

Everyone hates Blackberry now, but their emojis are the best I have seen. Apple should license them...

There is still no emoji for a steak :(

Apple today released iOS 9.1 to the public, marking the first major update to the iOS 9 operating system that launched in September. In testing since before iOS 9 was even released, iOS 9.1 was beta tested for more than a month before its launch, with developers and public beta testers receiving five betas in total.

Today's iOS 9.1 update is available as an over-the-air update to all iOS 9 users. It is the third update to iOS 9 so far, with Apple having previously released iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2. Apple has also released Xcode 7.1 and the tvOS golden master (GM), which represents the final version of the software that will be available when the new Apple TV launches next week.

iOS 9.1 has a limited number of outward facing changes. It includes support for Unicode 7 and 8, introducing a range of new emoji like taco, burrito, cheese wedge, middle finger, champagne bottle, unicorn head, and more.

iOS 9.1 includes an update for Live Photos, which now sense when the iPhone is raised or lowered to refrain from recording unnecessary movements. The update also introduces a new Messages option in the Settings app that is designed to allow users to disable photos for contacts, and it brings Apple News to the UK and Australia for the first time.

Aside from these changes, iOS 9.1 includes new features and compatibility updates for upcoming Apple products like the fourth-generation Apple TV and the iPad Pro The new Apple TV requires iOS 9.1 to be set up using an iOS device.

iOS 9.1 also includes bug fixes for a number of issues that iOS users have been experiencing, and as with most iOS updates, it enhances performance and introduces important security fixes.

Update: iOS 9.1 includes security updates that break the recent iOS 9 Pangu jailbreak.

The news app for UK users is great!

When I restored my iphone I kept an empty 'row' on home screen.

Only got 3 spaces now!

Cheers

Hey which Devices do you have ? :) only lag on my mini i wrote about :)

I'm having an iPhone 5s and iPad mini2 both running 9.1.
The main problems i have with iOS9.1 (and 9.0) are the lag with 3rd party keyboards (like Swype which had various iOS9 updates) which weren't there with iOS8.3 and 8.4.

I wish I could delete the 80%+ emojis that I don't ever use. It would save me a lot of time scrolling through a ton of worthless crap.

Why are you scrolling through emojis in the first place? Why use emojis? Just swipe/write words.
I don't use the emoji keyboard. I only use the standard Apple keyboard and Swype keyboard.

I wish I could delete ALL the emojis since I never use any of them.

Just remove the emoji keyboard. Ok still the emojis are somewhere stored in the iOS but you don't have to use it. I only use Apple's keyboard and Swype keyboard without those stupid emojis.

Let us know how the Mini does on 9.1. I'm updating mine right now so I'm hoping the major lag goes away or at least lessens in severity.

The mini2 still shows major lag with 3rd party keyboards like Swype (had several iOS9 updates already) or Path Input for iPad especially when doing a Spotlight search but other then that i think it runs pretty well.

It's not a bug. It leaves the settings open to wherever you were last using it. If you want it to open at the top then you need to make sure you scroll to the top every time you exit settings.

No it doesn't. When i actually scroll to the top of the Settings app and close the app and then open it again it does not start on the top. It is a bug.
