Mine doesn't work directly either. I had to upgrade the iphone and the ipad via itunes. Apple, Apple... there's always some bug

(cellular switch to wifi when signal is weak)
BTW; 4 minute download over wifi to iPhone 6...

I'm downloading through iTunes. I tend to do that on any big 8/9 updates. No error messages here. Use computer if you're having problems!
