No GPS? and 10 megapixel camera? Bummer =/ Was hoping for more. =CP But wont' stop me from getting one.

Update: Opps the wifi + 3G model has GPS

But still bummer on the camera.

No camera???

I was really hoping for a front facing camera. That would have sold it for me. I know, people are like why do you need a camera. I use Skype all the time on my laptop. This would have been the perfect replacement for that. I could just take this with my while traveling rather than the whole laptop, but oh well. Think I will have to pass. Need to upgrade my macbook first. :D

It looks like the tablet that everyone outside of Apple would have created if they were trying to be Apple-esque.

Apple has not been in itself for a while, the same company that made the Mac with drag and drop, or the first iterations of Mac OS X or the iPhone. The iPhone seems to be the last great thing Apple did.

assisted GPS

that's too bad.

I wasn't in love with the thing until he said $499. I'm in and then when they add the camera and GPS next winter I'll give it too my daughter.

i'm wondering if its possible to use the iphone's internet connection thru bluetooth? but i think, no ;-)

No laptop bumps.

Sad.

But the iPad ended up being more desirable that I thought.. gonna be a great mobile device for my office meetings and client demos.

According to the specs, there is no built in camera. This is disappointing but it will keep users feverish until video conferencing is finally a reality.

This is offset, to some degree, by the inclusion of HD video out. Not a major feature considering other media players such as the Zune possess this capacity.

Looks like that one last photo leak was it. Looks awesome, but I'll stick to carrying my MacBook around for now. It's basically a huge iPod touch with cellular data access.

Unlocked?

So if it's unlocked, will there be a SIM card slot? I am also very curious as to whether or not this will be jailbroken :D. Pirates FTW!

Sounds very revolutionary to me.

hey - heres an idea Apple - rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?
or are you really aiming to become a glorified consumer gimmicks firm?

They've always focused on consumer products more.

So geek fanboys hate it.... yawn.....

then it will definitely sell like hotcakes with everyone else,
the vast unwashed majority.

and Apple will add billions to the bottom line.

I definitely want one. :D

Can someone link to a competing tablet (whatever is closest to this) to get some context of how competitive this is?

Finaly Custom Silicone! The future of Apple is to develop all the chips for all products themselves, producing another source of distinguish-ability from the competition.
I want an Mac Pro with an Apple A8 CPU!

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE, PEOPLE!

Homerun.

The days of laptops will fade. I'm sure they will still be made for years to come, but this form is what computers were meant to be. The next step would be the intangibles: implants, projection onto cornea, etc., and those are just not going to be decent or reliable for over a decade or more. The ability to hold a simple form object and do computing: perfect.

Yes, it could have had more ability, but for the price, it's excellent. I am sure this will be the hype product for the year, and it will do very well. However, I suspect that in two or three years there will be iPads which will make this thing look like ancient tinker toys.

What Apple needs to develop for the iPad now is:

Handwriting recognition
Multi-tasking
Flash

With those abilities, and a $499 starter price, I see a huge market wave pushing most notebook and netbook buyers to the iPad.

I do own an iPT and this thing is far better than an iPT. Just wanted to tell the naysayers equating this to a mere iPT that they are full of it. There is no serious comparison due to screen size and document creation/editing.
