I think maybe as a more tech savvy person it's easy to forget how cool and easy this is to use for someone who isn't. Just because we have all this technology around us most people only want to go skin deep. *snip*.

I was thinking more about this since my initial reaction. You and I have come to the same conclusion, and I can start to understand this product more. That still doesn't change the fact that the iPad is not revolutionary at all. It brings nothing new to the table other than a 10" screen. It's just a giant iPhone.
If Apple didn't bill it as the most revolutionary product ever, I wouldn't be nearly as disappointed.

No Linux on iPhone that I know of yet.
No, but the iPad's additional screen real estate should make it more attractive for someone to try IMO. Need info on the processor's details though. I'm thinking an ARM 9 variant, but not sure.

I honestly do not think that this is priced unfairly - this is an amazing piece of machine, and you have to pay that much for a type of machine like this one.

This iPad is revolutionary! It's only .5 inches thick?! Amazing.

They did. It's unlocked so you can use it with any carrier. I don't get all the whining about ATT, didn't people even read the info?

So don't get the 3G option, or get it and use it with ANY CARRIER since it's UNLOCKED.

Seriously, is it so hard to read?

It doesn't matter if it's UNLOCKED - How do you plan on using 3G with ANY CARRIER when the iPad does not support 1700MHZ (TMobile) or CDMA (Verizon)?

iPad WiFi + 3G
Wi-Fi + 3G model
UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
GSM/EDGE (850, 900,1800, 1900 MHz)

I think this looks awesome and is a promising start. These are the issues I personally have:
No mention of wifi ~streaming~ of movies from your main computer.
No USB port to add extra storage.
Only plays Apple formatted video.
The output to the TV is listed as Support for 1024 x 768 with Dock Connector to VGA adapter which means no digital video or digital audio.

What I expect to make me NEED to purchase this:
Jail Breaking (A given)
Ability to run XBMC or similar for NTFS streaming.

Essentially what I was looking for was an Apple TV that I could pick up and watch videos on, then take home and plug in to the TV. My guess is it will happen soon when someone copies all the cool features and interface but has an open operating system. Putting my money on google, kind of like the Droid is to the iPhone.

Consider me disappointed. What is the purpose of the device that the iPhone/iTouch can't do?

Every Mac device has a stature of something unique to it. This iPad felt like a iPod touch just made bigger. I see no advantage of the bigger screen, when one can spend a $999 and get a multitasking laptop with all the features you need without the touch.

This device needed something to set it apart, and they failed on that front. It needed a front facing camera for video chats. It could of had multi tasking since if this is a netbook killer, all netbooks can multitask. Sorry Jobs, you failed. You made a picture frame with an iPhone OS. Come back to me when you put the i5 in the laptops, I wanna upgrade.

While I initially thought the iPad to be a bummer, especially after Steve Jobs comment that this was the most important thing he had done, after people said we would be amazed about how you work with it, etcetera... I think this device actually has the most potential in a business setting, not a home setting.

This thing could be very useful in a company, providing flexworking desk with just a mini dock, you can work on the train, it's easy to carry along, most people do not need more processing power than this can offer, you can bring it along to meetings, while in a meeting place it on your lap and make notes, you have mobile connectivity everywhere... this thing has the potential to replace the laptop and the desktop computer in work environments...

Not the home slideshows, videogames, etcetera... This is a device companies could really take advantage off, and I should be marketed as such as well..

This is probably the first Apple product (since the MacMini) that I think wont do as well as they hoped. It wont be bad but not great. Theres just no real 'killer' app.

But isn't that because they deliberately hobbled the Mac Mini right from the giddyup? They never wanted it to be a headless iMac which presumably would have been more competitive with other desktops.

The iPad looks to do what it is purported to do with Mac style, but as other people pointed out it does seem a bit unnecessarily hobbled. No camera or multi-tasking? I think they hobbled it just enough to make the next upgrade compelling, but gave it enough "oooh" factor to sell enough to make a profit. Ah, c'mon, Apple.

Why do people care about the lack of a camera? Do people really want to hold up a tablet to take a picture?

EDIT: if by "camera", people mean iChat webcam, then, yeah that would be nice.

Just an oversized Ipod Touch. This will not sell well no need for this device.
Will not be good for reading books neither not using the ink technology.

This is gonna be a hit with or without a camera. Never thought that a Kindle would sell. People will spend a little more to get alittle more for this thing. It is great and I bet have the people in here that dis it, get one! Look at the people who bought the iPhone (no mms, video, no apps at the start, people still bought it!)

Netbook killer?

Absolutely.

That's strange, my netbook has:

-A trimmed down Core 2 based processor with 2GB RAM
-250GB of storage
-6 hours of battery life
-Can run the full x86 library of apps
-I can download/install apps without going through the App Store
-I can save, edit, and upload documents, pdfs, presentations, spreadsheets etc.
-I can browse the entire internet, including flash
-It has a better resolution
-It can read SD card info, meaning I can move photos from my camera onto it to edit or store
-It has USB slots, meaning I can charge other devices, read from external storage, and even tether a phone
-Oh yeah, it even multi tasks!

Oh, and it's priced less than the cheapest iPad which has fraction of those capabilities. So tell me again, how did netbooks get killed?

can't wait...

Can't wait for iPad 2.0 that is. Just seems more like a slap in the face of the iPhone. Why not have a device like this (with video capabilities) that interfaces with the iPhone?

Assisted GPS is better than regular GPS. It's GPS plus cell-tower triangulation.

Ummmm no. What happens when you don't get cell signal? You have a weak little GPS receiver trying to compensate. Dedicated GPS systems always work better.

Flash?

Still no Flash eh?

Why do people scream for flash, I have it disabled on every browser I use, and do not miss it. I also don't miss the fan on my MBP screaming into high gear every time I accidentally sit on a page with 7 different flash ads and 3 other useless flash boxes taking up all my processor cycles and then some. Help Apple (and others) get flash off the web, and maybe something a lot better will come in to take its place.

Flash sucks!

Dissapointed

REALLY DISAPPOINTED

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I'm gonna install TomTom and CoPilot on this thing, that's gonna be one hell of a GPS navigation device!
