I've never seen so many bugs in a piece of fruit in all the days of my life!

How 'bout the one that causes your screen to scroll uncontrollably each time you press a character on the keyboard while attempting to enter text within a website (say, oh I dunno, like for instance...RIGHT FREAKIN' NOW AS I POST THIS REPLY)!!!!

And here's the latest installment from the "If It Wasn't Freakin' Broke Why Fix It?" series: you can't bookmark an address in the Maps application without it being associated with a name in your contacts list. Unfreakinbelievable! This wasn't the case before the glorious 2.0 release!!!

Screen seizures and whacky bookmark procedures -- yeah, way to go Apple! Surely you have some brainiac within your org makin' upwards of $100 grand per year to address these issues, yes?

Mine's doing that too right now. That's why I zoomed out but now I can't see what I'm typing. The keyboard lag is still there for me as I type this, both in Safari and in SMS app. My backups are faster though! Which is a relief as it took more than 30 minutes before.

Yes, 2.0 is buggy and hardly works. Even 2.0.1 can barely stand up without vomiting all over the carpet. Apple really need to sort this out - we all know it, and the iPhone software team at Apple know it, too. We can only hope that 2.10 brings back the rock solid stability of my first gen phone.

For instance - GPS almost never works. I can sometiMes resurrect it for a while by resetting network settings, but hours/days later, without using it again, it'll break itself. And it doesn't even fall back to tower triangulation when that happens (at least not in Maps). Big flaw - do it right, Apple!

Maybe a bit of an exaggeration don't you think lol? There are definitely still problems in 2.0.1 that should be fixed already though. I reckon once the App Store Apps are a bit more stable on the device (which is what 2.0.1 greatly improved) more attention will be turned back to the actual native iPhone functions.

1.1.4 FTW though!!! Best iPhone firmware EVER :D

I know what I am saying is pretty way out but if someone could enlighten me to another viewpoint on this it's much appreciated.

Unlocked + jailbroken here and apart from the odd application crash and general slowness associated with 2.0 my has been solid and runs without having to restart/restore at all.

SMS to groups

Does anyone know if they are going to release the ability to add a group to an SMS so you can send to, lets say, 10 people without having to add their names one by one? Just add the group and go? Also why are there even groups on the iPhone right now anyway?

Groups right now are just to organize contacts. I have no clue why they still don't have the ability to organize them in groups yet. You have to go to your address book on your mac or on mobileme to group them.

I have never had to restore my 3G once since July 11 and I have not had to restore my 1st generation running 2.0 and now 2.0.1 either. I have had 0 problems on either phone.

So you are running the same hardware and the same software as everyone else and you are having no problems, but others on exactly the same platform are having problems no end.

I cant understand how that is lol. No one has replied to my previous post about this yet to educate me :)

There are thousands and thousands of other people who aren't having any problems as well. Threads pop up occasionally on the Apple forums asking people to post who are not having problems.

I am not alone on this whatsoever. I see the threads where people are having problems and I wonder how is that even possible to have to format everyday.

There are lots of different things that can cause problems, for example the type of email account and server settings e.g I have 4 email accounts two gmails, one university and one other. Then their are other personal settings + combinations of applications + personal usage (e.g. someone may not use camera but could have bugs that people who use it a lot might find). Also you have to remember people report things when an error occurs but very little when everything is working correctly.

I know I'm going to get blasted for saying this, but please give me:

1) Stability and fix the keyboard lag
2) Copy + Paste (I need this multiple times a day!)
3) settings to adjust how the auto word guessing works.
(I would prefer it to work the opposite of how it does now, you tap the word it's guessing to place the word there rather than to get rid of it)

4) better sync with Google Calendar

Anyhow there's my wish list for now.

Anyone know?

Anyone know in which iTunes update Apple added the ability to sync your iPhone's contacts with GMail's contacts?
I remember a few months ago signing up for a yahoo account because I noticed you could sync with Yahoo's contacts, but don't believe at the time you could do so with GMail's contacts (otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with Yahoo).

Anyone know?
Is this relatively new?

Is this possible? If so, it might have been recently because I don't ever remember having the ability to do so.

1. Wouldn't be frowned at, I would be pleased with that :)
2. Doesn't bother me, wouldn't say no but different strokes for different folks.
3. When the guess comes up just tap the spacebar and it will replace it for you. Just like what you want but better :)
4. In iTunes, one of the tabs on your iPhone screen will take you to a screen with the option of Google Calendar sync.

Hope that helps. :)

I think it's great that you haven't had any problems. I have had enough for both of us, I think - I've had to do 34 restores since July 11th (on two iPhone 3Gs) and 6 restores on a previously perfect iPod touch. That's forty restores in less than a month. My only 'sin?' I've bought close to $200 worth of apps. Installing/upgrading/removing them causes random freezing, recoverable only by doing a restore.

If you'd like to educate yourself regarding how widespread this problem is, just Google "Apple logo of death" ... ;)

Actually, with 2.0.1 on the iPhone 1st Gen, things have gotten more stable. However, the annoying keyboard lag is still apparent (although it is a tiny bit better than with 2.0.0), as is the ringer volume bug.

I am curious, for those who have extraordinary instability and so-called "daily" spontaneous death: how many Apps do you have installed? I ask because I am wondering if there is a direct correlation between the number of extra Apps installed and the stability of the phone. Perhaps, in this sense, it is akin to Windows CE--the more things you have installed on the system, the worse your system performs. I think I have only 5 extra applications and thusfar my overall stability is alright--certainly workable and a worthwhile trade for the greater Safari speed of OS 2.X.

As for new features in 2.1:
(I would prefer it to work the opposite of how it does now, you tap the word it's guessing to place the word there rather than to get rid of it)
I would love to see this as well. I still haven't adapted to the "tap to use your word" interface; it seems like quite the counterintuitive mindf*ck to have the AI show you a suggested word and then have to click on that suggestion in order to not use it.

Also when you are typing fast this is a far more intuitive interface, you just have to get used to it.

I'm also hoping that the new firmware fixes the software issues but in my case I would like to see the 3G signal get better. I live and work in an area that has great 3g coverage however depending on how I hold my phone is the difference between 2 bars and 5 bars ( very annoying). I'm considering taking the phone back to apple for another replacement because I suspect it's a faulty 3g receiver and AT&T is no help, they keep stating that there network is fine and it has to be the phone

No way.

3/4 of the time, the suggested word is not what I want, but even if it were, if I'm typing fast on those tiny keys, I'm looking at the tiny keys, and not always noticing that the apple-gnome has been hard at work replacing all kinds of words that I now have to go completely retype, because they weren't in its dictionary or had a wrong character or something. It feels like my device not only second-guesses me, but assumes it knows what I'm doing better than I do, when at least 75% of the time, it doesn't. Even if it did, it's irritating, and should be an option to switch.

"You just have to get used to it." Ha! You meant that sarcastically, mocking the kind of miscreants that would ever say such a thing in any seriousness.

Perhaps it has more to do with conversations consisting of more than: OMG, I saw these like, red shoes at the mall, and then Sarah came over and lipliner, LOL. " That, it lets me type.

Ive never jailbroken my iPod Touch, but I was getting freezing / crashes and having to restore every time I tried to update an app. I've installed maybe ten applications--a few really common free ones, and a couple popular paid ones.

All of my problems forcing a restore seemed to revolve around updating applications. At this point, I don't update applications. If I decide that I REALLY need a new version, I delete it, and then install. That usually works, but I sometimes still get a crash and have to restore.

My suspicion is that it's somehow related to how some applications are handling the update process. Some people just have the wrong combination of apps or some such--I don't know.

Agree that the current interface is NOT intuitive and more often that not suggests words that I did not intend. Try typing "si" as a fun way of saying yes...hitting x is an exercise in frustration. We should be able to add our own entries to a personal dictionary. (I realize this is a bad example because it is spanish, but it shows how frustrating it is to override the suggestion).

Yeah, that is a new bug to 2.0 that was fine in 1.14. It's very, very annoying. I'm staggered it wasn't fixed in 2.01.

Oh well, you cant do it then. Your problem not mine, no need to have a go.

Hit the x three times and it will remember that is what you wanted to type. Obviously new to the iPhone are we?
