Well, i decided to update after all. I'm always kind of ocd about doing updates if im not doing a 'clean' install, i just dont feel like going through it all right now, but the phone updated and doesnt seem any slower or anything.
So, all in all, i feel a lot better i patched up that nasty little hole just in case.

Just like everyone else has been reporting, it looks like there were no other changes (at least that i can find).

The high pitched noise is still there, ie after unlocking, and receiving a text etc.

So overall, i feel better now, haha. Hopefully, the 3.1 update will come soon, and they fix some annoying bugs.

Question though: Does this SMS vulnerability affect older firmwares? My girlfriend has a 2G thats still on 2.2.1, she just doesnt want to upgrade.

Or was it a 3.0 vulnerability?

thanks!

Most of them do.

I'm an aspiring app dev, I've been jailbroken since "day 1" and have no desire to run cracked apps, nor do the plethora of people I know with jailbroken devices. :)

it's a vulnerability that effects every previous version of the iPhone OS

Fixes SMS vulnerability???

What does this mean??? Because 2 days ago, ALL my text messages were erased! =[

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

The iPhone is more unstable since I updated. YT freezes up an apps are crashing. This sucks.

Well, after the update I haven't been able to connect over wifi on my 3G iPhone, although I can't remember if this happened from the previous update 3.0, I barely use wifi so I'm not sure.

Last night I noticed every time I tried to "discover" my home wifi, the spinning wheel just lasts 2 seconds and my wifi network doesn't shows up; I could even detect my neighbors wifi, but right no networks are detected.

I have performed every f*** single advice and common tasks to resolve the issue: Restore network settings, resetting iPhone, restoring iPhone from iTunes (no backup) and iPhone, turning on (30 secs) and off the Airplane Mode, turning on/off wifi... etc, and nothing. I even changed SSID and resetted my router.

I have read some other posts and other people are having the same issue, although some solutions seems to work for someone, other say that wifi became faulty since the update (told by genius bar at apple)... For one moment, someone said to toggle bluetooth and then try to discover my home wifi, which it did, but afterwards I couldn't connect. Both bluetooth and wifi MAC address are OK in "About" menu.

Anyway... If anyone else is having this problem and found a solution, please post it here, I'd give it a try even if I've already done or so. I just hope Telcel (Mexico) changes my iPhone...

I've been having the same problem. I don't recall having this problem with 3.0. After I updated to 3.0.1 it works fine for about 24 hours then all of a sudden I couldn't connect to my wifi even though it was functioning perfectly fine. My wife has a 3.0.1 on her non-3G and it finds the network just fine. I also noticed that when I press the home button the phone wouldn't respond at all unless I tapped it repeatedly. Above all that, I noticed how the interface would freeze up on the settings menu frequently. I did a restore to 3.0.1 and it worked find for a few hours then it started to happen all over again. I hope that Apple takes note of this issue immediately.

Update broke my phone, forcing me to do a complete restore. I'm still waiting for it to finish, and late to meet my friends because apparently Apple can't build a secure mobile OS, and can't create a working patch for said OS.

The vulnerability affects virtually every mobile OS out there, but nice try.

emergency calls only after update.

Hi,

yesterday I have just updated by mistake my phone to the 3.0.1 version . And now I can make only emergency calls , and when I try to connect it to Itunes, Apple says my sim card is not supported. I am using a 3g unlocked and jailbroken iphone with a tmobile sim card but now all of this is gone.
Could someone help me to restore it back to what it was before, please?

Thanks in advance.

Wow... just wow.

So more of an FYI, since most of you probably know or have experienced this:

Updated my 3g JB 3.0 to 3.0.1 and lost my jailbreak

Used my 3.0 .ipsw (created w/ pwnage) to try to re jailbreak and I lost my 3.0.1 update.

So now, unless someone can point me in the right direction, I am stuck with a non-jb 3.0.1.

1. Update to 3.0.1
2. Open RedSn0w
3. When it asks for firmware file, choose 3.0 firmware
4. You'll have a jailbroken 3.0.1 in no time.

Problems with GPS

Hi

is there anyone else here having problems with the gps after the 3.01 update. My gps was working fine before the updat

Does anyone know where I can learn this "hack"? I want to try it on my iPhone 3GS with 3.0 firmware before I upgrade to see what it's capable of.

Copy/paste broken in 3.0.1?

I updated to 3.0.1 over the weekend, and now I can't get my text copy/paste to work. The "copy" button comes up along with the leader/trailing sliders, but the sliders won't drag like they previously did. Has anyone else noticed this?

EDIT: Meh, rebooting seems to have fixed this.

Update failed

The update failed and caused me to restore which means I lost data. Be warned.
