Just updated to iPhone Firmware 3.0.1! I can confirm purplera1n was uninstalled and will not reinstall so it is basically a piece of **** as GeoHot would put it. :p I used redsn0w and pointed to the original "iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw", it accepted it and installed Cydia and Icy just fine. However, you will have to reinstall any Cydia and Icy apps you installed previously such as Installous, ect. My tethering, MMS, and Visual Voicemail settings part of the AT&T 5.0 "ATT_US.ipcc" update remained in place. I'm now re-jailbroken with redsn0w and all is working well! :D

Updated to 3.0.1. Worked fine. MMS still works without any messing about but then my carrier has supported it since the 3.0 launch.... unlike some others...

Then again I think I've sent maybe 3 in that time and two of them were "Woo, MMS!" messages. MMS is way overrated, always has been.

I am trying to do this now, but Redsn0w gets stuck on the waiting for reboot section after entering second stage.

Any tips?

The IPSW file that I am using is the one from iCommunity

EDIT: Nevermind, sorted it

anyone know if this helps the people who couldn't connect to wifi after updating to 3.0?

Weird it seems i'm getting even better battery life. Pre 3.0.1 if i charge up my phone and left it for an hour or two i'd be at 99-98%, post 3.0.1 it's still at 100%

*Shrugs*

I was going to say the same thing.I think there is a change of some kind. I had it at 100% for a good 3 minutes of use. I noticed that right away. I thought it was just me. I'm still at 74% since yesterday's charge and will still experiment to see how long this goes.

Sounds like wishful thinking (although I am definitely wishing for it!!!).

Stuck!

...so I tried to update my un-hacked 3G..
I have a full loading bar with Apple logo on my phone now, and in iTunes a stuck-at-about-one-third bar. It hasn't moved for three hours now.
What can I do? Force Quit iTunes or unplug USB and try again?

I downloaded 3.0.1 already. Installed it and then i realized that i dont have jailbreak. So i hold down SHIFT button and restored to 3.0 again and jailbreaked 3.0. So, i didnt f***ed up anything?

Don't try to update while phone is in a PowerSlider case

This may be "common knowledge" - but hey, maybe it'll save SOMEONE out there some hassle?

Late last night, I remembered I wanted to do this iPhone 3.01 update, so without thinking, I told iTunes to download and install it. It ran into issues right after downloading it, and left my iPhone stuck in recovery mode.

That's when I realized "Oh yeah, it's still in the Powerslider case, connected with their USB cable, instead of the phone being directly attached to a normal iPhone to USB cable!"

I switched it but had a BEAR of a time getting it to come back out of recovery mode. Multiple reboots of the phone and trying to move it to a different USB port didn't work. Finally, I rebooted the Mac and that seemed to make iTunes willing to try to restore my phone again.

Updated 3gs to 3.0.1 but flakey tethering

Not sure why, but when I start tethering (usb) it disappears. I have the "acds.voicmail" setting in the "Cellular Data Network, Visual Voicemail" settings. When I try to tether it drops back to "Network" screen and "Internet Tethering" tab is gone. If I do a "Reset Settings" in the "Cellular Data" window and drop back out to home screen then go back to "Network" the tab is there. I can then tether successfully, but visual voicemail is no longer working because it's settings change back to WAP.CINGULAR. If I change it back to acds.voicemail, then I get voicemail back but the disappearing tether issue comes back. Weird, because I went back to OS 3.0 and it's doing the same thing. When I originally set this up a few weeks ago, it was working flawlessy all the time. At least there's a workaround by resetting, but it's kind of a pain. Fortunately I don't have a huge need for tethering.

Also MMS works by adding MMS setting in the "Cellular Data" window. Of course I have to re-enter it if I do a reset for tethering to work.

another oddity, with MMS setting in place and after doing a reset,(not reboot) tethering works but cannot ping internet sites, none at all. If I do network reset (reboot) it will work again.

Any ideas ????

I updated my 3GS to 3.01 and now my screen looks like this..

all good on O2 UK!

update went fast and smooth, tethering hack is still working - i'm using it now :)

(does anyone actually know the consequences of the security vulnerability that is being fixed?)

Successfully updated to 3.0.1 and jailbroke using redsn0w 0.8 and 3.0 ipsw. I was able to backup all my apps using AptBackup and everything is just how I left it before the update. Amazing! :D

I love how they claim that the patch was created in less than 24 hours after the demonstration, even though they had an entire month before to so something about it.
Or maybe they decided not to do anything until after the demonstation, in which case the claim is legit.

Of course the claim isn't legit. The fanboys just got done explaining how complicated it is to fix a bug, and how six weeks is a major rush job.

...
Kudos to Google as well. The correct headline, then, seems to be: "Microsoft and wireless carriers late to fix serious flaw in Windows Mobile, while Apple and Google patch promptly."

As for Apple releasing this one day after the announcement:

1. Did Apple ignore the issue and then suddenly fix AND test the fix last night? Or have they been working on it beforehand? The latter is far more likely.

2. How could the public announcement NOT prompt the release of the fix? Apple may have been planning to include it with some other fixes that aren't ready today. Instead, they released the fix alone. Seems sensible.

According to a poster at AI (sorry, no link to confirm whether it's true) Microsoft was NOT notified at the same time as Google and Apple, for whatever reason. If Microsoft remained in the dark until recently, then they have an excuse for not being ready with a patch.

(I can believe this could happen: the security researchers could well have not realized Windows Mobile shared the problem--although you'd think they'd have looked into the question long ago.)

No WiFi

Well, after the update I haven't been able to connect over wifi on my 3G iPhone, although I can't remember if this happened from the previous update 3.0, I barely use wifi so I'm not sure.

Last night I noticed every time I tried to "discover" my home wifi, the spinning wheel just lasts 2 seconds and my wifi network doesn't shows up; I could even detect my neighbors wifi, but right no networks are detected.

I have performed every f*** single advice and common tasks to resolve the issue: Restore network settings, resetting iPhone, restoring iPhone from iTunes (no backup) and iPhone, turning on (30 secs) and off the Airplane Mode, turning on/off wifi... etc, and nothing. I even changed SSID and resetted my router.

I have read some other posts and other people are having the same issue, although some solutions seems to work for someone, other say that wifi became faulty since the update (told by genius bar at apple)... For one moment, someone said to toggle bluetooth and then try to discover my home wifi, which it did, but afterwards I couldn't connect. Both bluetooth and wifi MAC address are OK in "About" menu.

Anyway... If anyone else is having this problem and found a solution, please post it here, I'd give it a try even if I've already done or so. I just hope Telcel (Mexico) changes my iPhone...
