Ive a factory unlocked iPhone from Italy and I cant see tethering with 3.1.3? Can anyone else with a factory unlocked phone check this??

Go help.benm.at to add tethering profile if tethering is not enable on your iphone. BenM is what i use to have when i didnt have tethering but then it was gone after 3.1.2. Now it's working again according to BenM. I don't need BenM profile anymore because with 3.1.3 i got native tethering and i'm not with an official carrier.

Go enjoy tethering once again!

Hey guys...I don't usually post on the macrumors forums, but I'm screwed. I just updated my Iphone to the OS3.1 and it crashed on me after updating. I tried to restore it, but got that error stating that it had problems going back to the previous Iphone version. My Itunes was out of date too, so I update it today, restarted my computer and my Iphone still has that USB connectivity sign. Has Apple addressed these issues?? I'm mad that I updated to the new Iphone OS today and now my Iphone is bricked :(...Any suggestions would be helpful

My iphone is not jail-broken and is a 3GS model, Canadian carrier. Hope somebody can provide good trouble shooting, as Apple has ruined my day.

Thanks.

Huh, thanks for the tip, I just turned off MMS and it works now! I didn't even have to reboot.

Uhh...huh. Well, I stand corrected, by the evidence of your screenshot.

Interestingly, though, I cannot reproduce this. I tried turning MMS Messaging off, and I still had a QWERTY keypad for the To: line. So I rebooted the phone. Still QWERTYfied.

I still prefer QWERTY myself so I can type in contact names, so no worries there, but interesting nonetheless.

What is happening on the 3GS?

After update to 3.1.3 I have SERIOUS difficulties to link with the 3G network, it goes on Edge (very unstable) while 20mins ago with 3.1.2 I was having full 3G network coverage and usage.

Anyone suffering the same problem? It doesn't go with 3G even if network availability is there... what's going on?

Any help?

Thank you.
p.s. tried as well to restore, same issue... on another 3G16gb, connection to 3G works pretty well.

Still waiting for DevTeam to do their magic; keeping my JB 3GS iPhone as is...

Well, i am looking forward to this as well. When they can do that jailbreak again we can expect another update from apple soon thereafter, just because content providers don't like thieves either and apple will make sure that contents won't be stolen from iPad's. I see this as an ongoing "fight" between thieves/intruders and the guards of the market. :)

I think apple targets the jailbreakers now by taking advantage of the ways they choose to break in and blocking those "vulnerabilities". Apple has not only to protect the users of their iPhone OS based devices from any attacks but also the content providers from theft.

Still can't sync my contacts, agenda and bookmarks with MobileMe...
I did 3 restores now

someone know how to downgrade back to 3.1.2??

(sorry for my bad english)

Jailbreaking - The proven method of damaging your iPhone's security! (TM)

I don't see anything on this, but I hope there's a fix for the cover art issue. It seems some album covers (usually those with double albums) get corrupted and stills from my video podcasts appear in their place. Very annoying.

I have this too, corrupted a load of album art and replaced it with a "genius mix" album cover, was a pain to remove all my music and reload it.

I wonder if this update will improve my battery life at all? At moderate useage (4 or 5 hours of music, wifi on, exchange push updates on and maybe 30 minutes of calls and 30 minutes of browsing) i unplug it at 7am and by 11pm its at 20% is that normal?

At least here where I am - in Thailand - that's BS with native tethering.

Only works with the official carrier's SIM - just tried it. Or maybe we're just unlucky here.

Tethering speed improvement

Trouble-free update on Rogers (iPhone 3G). Definitely much, much snappier than before. Tethering immediately reconnected upon iPhone restart, and my 3G speed is suddenly twice as fast as my previous average. Getting almost 2300kbps tonight, typical 1200bps previously. Awesome!

Upgrade was straight forward. Appears to be significant improvement is tethering speed. www.ozspeedtest.com is now consistently returning line speed of 8.46Mbps whereas under prior version it was 3.8Mbps (3MB sample, carrier optus, inner Melbourne)

Do you usually restore then upgrade and restore backup or simply upgrade. Don't know if there is better way...

I've been using my iPhone for about 2 years (switched from 3G to 3GS) it's become quite slow after all this time so I'm wondering if a restore> upgrade> restore backup will help or if it will simply restore all the slowliness

Weighing in at 228.1MB...

Steve Jobs has always been a resource hog (iTunes, anyone?!).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 1.6; en-us; Archos5 Build/Donut) AppleWebKit/528.5+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Mobile Safari/525.20.1)

The update bricked my Nexus One. :(

:D (I jest....)

'Cause your Nexus One opperates as it should!

It's amazing what Apple users are willing to put up with just because it's an Apple product.

buggiest OS ever for me

- it won't sync to my mobileme account (calendar, contacts, bookmarks..)
- it won't connect automatically to my wi-fi when I reboot my phone
- it won't let me set the equalizer to "Rock", it automatically changes back to Off

WTF!!!

Just got mine a week ago (UK on O2 pay-as-u-go)

1 MMe - Yep worked right away
2 Yep mines does (Belkin N1 on ADSL, WPA2 etc)
3 Just set mine to Rock, played a tune and checked it was still on it, yep and so changed back to 'Treble reducer'

Maybe 'restore' your phone and start afresh incase somethings screwed up.

BJE

Yeah I too have been looking to get tethering enabled again on O2 in the UK. Lots of people report that they have got it working but no one has provided steps as far as I can tell.

Awesome - hope this fixes my battery issues, which have been there since I upgraded to the 3Gs. Indicator will stay up above 90-100% all day, then with in a minute or two will drop to 40% or so, and then just die without even a "low battery" warning. I think my battery capacity is okay (I don't think anyone gets a full day of heavy use on a charge?) but the meter is waaay off. I will be a happy camper if they finally fixed this!

I installed the update on my 3GS. No big deal - it does take a total of about 10 minutes to download and then install and reboot the phone. I'm not jailbroken so that wasn't an issue for me. Otherwise, I assume its mostly security things, no other apparent things jump out. Just a minor update.
