gonna have to hold off on this, love my iphone tethering :)

I am not jailbroken yet I tether all the time! Thank you NetShare! :D

Anyway, on my 3G never a battery issue but very often a coma issue that would, when rebooted several times, cause third-part apps to not open. Less concerned about third party apps and more concerned about the coma issue though.

So when I booted up my iPhone after the update, it said the time was 9:18 PM. Which is all well and good, except it is 4:18 PM! Weird bug.

A reboot of the iPhone fixed the issue. Hopefully that is all that was needed.

Steve Jobs said:
"Apple will deliver aggressive updates to iPhone that Android/Google won't be able to keep up with"

So they fixed the 4 hours lasting battery indicator so you can see more accurately how short it is, stability issue with third party app that had to wait weeks before being accepted, and keyboards for otakus...

HOW AGGRESSIVE !

FFS Apple!

If you are on Firmware 3.1.2 or earlier and the issue of 'alphabetical sorting of playlists' is NOT a matter of life or death, DO NOT update because you ARE NOT getting anything new out of this update! The only new & noteworthy that you'll be getting is an prolonged waiting for a new Jailbreak!...

I have to test the fix "CVE-2010-0038" and if it's really aimed at blocking the jailbreak-exploit, then that means that Apple is starting to get REALLY aggressive against the moding scene (and the likes of Dev Team, geohot, etc.) and that will start smelling REALLY "Microsoft'ish"! I mean, they have been 'kind of loose' with their Mac OS X and its moding, but it seams like they are taking the iPhone/iPad business to a whole new level of 'holy grailness!' (looks like they're pushing all their powers towards it and slowly abandoning some of the usual sections)... I REALLY hope I'm wrong & talking bullsh*t!... :(

Well, that was very interesting... I updated my English iPod, opened the Music app, and it's in Japanese. Head-scratching ensues, as the rest of the OS is still in English. I'm sure that I'll just need to toggle the language, but it's still bizarre.

The double-tap issue that I mentioned above is still not fixed.

Have you tried changing your iPod's system language to another one and then back to English?

i haven't even installed it yet, but my iphone already feels snappier!

! ! ! ! LOLzoR ! ! ! ! :p

Got to love apple...just applied the update and now none of my 3rd party apps open. I thought it fixed it...nope just broke it. Yay for a long restore :/

Note to UK o2 iPhone 3g Users

Just a quicky from me - update went on fine as usual. My phone took a really (really) long time to re-establish network connection. Waited 10 mins and nothing. Rebooted and waited another 10 mins and finally got a connection. Not sure if this is the result of the update or the fact I don't live in the best signal area (normally have 2-3 bars). Anyone else have this.

As far as snappiness (tm) goes things do seem a little faster (Twitteriffic and Facebook being notable examples) but I'm more or less 100% sure this has a lot more to do with an OS restore (and resulting flush out) than anything in the actual OS that is different.:)

Oh snap!

Maybe its just me, but when I break my 3gs in half after doing this update, I swear it feels snappier??? Anybody else find this? It could just be me though.

Updated with little fanfare.

Lost VVM for about 3 minutes but its back. Also my baseband and Carrier version has changed.

I should probably get around to updating iTunes too.

Can anyone confirm that the sync of contacts, calendars and bookmarks via MobileMe is working?

Because it does not work for me!

iPhone 3G seems "snappier". Anyone else have the same results?

It "seems" snappier because you just updated. Nothing on the update should've made anything more "snappy." It was mostly security updates.

Anyway, nothing to warrant getting this update, IMO, and it messes up jailbreaking, since the baseband is changed, yet again.

Yeah, toggling the language fixed it. It turned out that the Settings app was in Japanese too, but fortunately I could read enough of it to find the language-selection setting :)

How about optimizing the OS to have a phone that last more than 4 hours on 3G ?
On most days, my 3G lasts easily two days and at a stretch three days, with 3 G on. But that might depend a lot how close the next 3G tower is, the further away, the more power the phone as to use to communicate with it.

Tethering works with swedish operator Tele2 (not an official operator) after the update. Didn't work with 3.1.2.
Tethering still works (as it has done since 3.0 or shortly thereafter) with official operator Netcom here in Norway. ;)

This is typed from my MacBook tethered to my iPhone over Bluetooth to the internet, seems to work flawlessly (as do the phone, after the scare earlier).
