Best before upgrading, so there is a backup for your iPhoto library. If you already have some the bullet and updated and are one of the unlucky people who have lost the photos, you can try to boost access disk util, delete the configuration file from your iPhoto (com.apple.iPhoto.plist) in the User folder / Library / Preferences.

Oops, to late for me, but I don't think I lost anything. How do they tell people who buy it now that they should install the update before running it?

I'm having kernel panics running 9.0.1

It only happens when I am using iPhoto, and it happens quite reliably.

Anybody have any ideas? I have another thread that has logs if any of you know about this sort of thing.

It's on a Mac Pro 2008 Octo.

The thread can be found here.

Arn there is a fine line between rubbish articles and sensationalist ones. Ok we get it you have to make a living but don't be desperate about it to the detriment of apple. "To address data loss issues" is a rubbish claim, there are no data loss issues, there is a rare bug here, and it's been corrected. So save us the sensationalism and report this as it should be reported. You are taking advantage of common folk here, and scaring them fearing they might lose their data. In all these forums here with thousands of people no one really lost their data irretrievably, so what is this rubbish all about then other than getting people worked up and driving hits here? Get it together cause you are hurting the community, and the community doesn't like you for doing that. Anyone playing games on apple's back is going to get it hard at some point, and you are not going to like it when it happens. You are riding the coattails of apple here, so be a good boy and dont't try to bite the hand that feeds you.

Somebody needs a nap

I don't think Arn was being sensationalist.

Is anybody doing any testing at Apple anymore?

I learnt not to upgrade any software release for several upgrades. This shouldn't be the case.

Yes, it seems like Apple has given up on software testing before release in some cases. It's more often than not that they need to push an update a couple of days after release.

Still having problems even after my update.

The problem comes with the way iPhoto upgraded the database. When viewing photos by events, iPhoto has always organized events chronologically from oldest at the top to newest. It now seems to have jumbled all 647 events. If you look at it, in one row I have events from this year in May, June and October (in that order)...father down the row are events from September, August and June. The next line down has events from October and June. This seems to be the case all throughout the database.

In order to try and correct the problem, I shut iPhoto down and restarted it holding down cmd-option and then chose to repair the database. It went through the process but when it reopened iPhoto, all the events were still jumbled. I should note that it seems like when viewing the library in the Photos view rather than the Events view all the pictures are correctly ordered.

UGH!!!!

What a stupid post. Are you really suggesting that MacRumours fabricate information in their posts? Why was the update even released by Apple? Due to data loss issues. Even Apple have acknowledged the bug. Why are you denying it?

Locations...

The locations function is still messed up. Entering a location that gets tagged with "null" in the name (who knows what this means) get you double-letters when you try to type in the location name.

I submitted this to MR, yet I dont get any credit.:eek::D

We are indebted to you. Thank you from the very cockles of our collective hearts.

I'm a little concerned at the direction Apple's software is taking re. lack of testing. Let's hope Steve lost his complete library of photos and is on the case now!

Sounds good but I'm going to wait for at least one more update before I install my iLife 11. In other words the verdict is still out. At least apple has acknowledged something was wrong. :D

Why does iPhoto '11 version say 8.1.2 in finder on my Mac?

Does anyone know why my iPhoto '11 version says 8.1.2 in finder on my Mac?
Even after the upgrade?

I reinstalled iPhoto 2011 to be sure and it still says version 8.1.2
Did the upgrade again and still 8.1.2

And yes, it IS 2001. I open it up and it has the new format for full-screen and stuff that is in 2011.

I cannot import photos no matter what I try.
What a mess...

I've already upgraded my library without updating iPhoto. I think everything is there, but is there an easy way to tell if something has been deleted?

If you click Photos (right under Events) you'll see a total number photos at the top of the screen.

If you know the number of photos you had before upgrading or at least a ball park idea, this should give you a quick reference if some photos were deleted.

Important Apple link.....

If you want to contact Apple and let them know about any iPhoto bugs or enhancements you want to see made they have set up a web page for this just dedicated to reporting iPhoto problems, suggestions, etc.

Here is the link:

the people that always need the latest version as soon as it is released got taught a lesson

When you're viewing Events, go to the View menu and choose Sort->by Date

I suspect that Lion will immediately convert every mac into an idiot-proof idevice that can only access approved apps through their app store.

They no longer compete with companies like Dell or HP. Their main focus of competition is now with companies like Nokia.

Enjoy your parallel port and floppy drive.

If by idiot-proof you mean that 99% of users won't have to allow sloppy code and moronic UI designers ruin their productivity and enjoyment, yeah, give me some of that.
They no longer compete with Dell or HP? Hah! That's a good one.

iPhoto 9.0.1 Not Doing For It Me

Folks, just to reiterate the warning of needing backups...after applying 9.0.1 I still have iPhoto crashing out during the library upgrade process. I've tried every conceivable fix listed here and in other forums...but still an issue.

It does not happen with all my libraries though. Some of my iPhoto libraries are running like a dream...others are still crash-n-burn. Key difference between my libraries is 'old AVI' files. The libraries that crash and burn are the ones with old video clips. I've not tried removing those yet...at the minute choosing to sit it out to see if 9.0.2 sorts it.

Hopefully 9.0.2 is on its way!

"It just works"... sometimes

I’ve been an Apple fanboy since 1984 but I have to admit that I’m no longer bragging. I find the rapid succession of blunders since the release of the iPhone-4 to be quite remarkable. This latest misstep with iPhoto is evidence enough that Apple is no longer testing products before their released. This sort of philosophy use to be a hallmark of Microsoft, but apparently they decided to trade positions.

Regards,
Dan

He simply quoted Apple's press release. You act like Apple is your sister and some thug is messing with her. Quite frankly it sounds a bit obsessive.

Great, now I can install the new iPhoto. I already purchased iLife but dared not to upgrade iPhoto due to its issues.

There's a lot of threads on Apple discussions too... its a shame Apple didn't do more testing. Perhaps they were more interested in their mobile stuff than to release an iLife 11 that didn't delete your photos.

Data loss is unforgivable, by all indications the issue was simple: file system permissions - which should have been in the QA Test Plan.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to iPhoto 11, its great that Apple fixed it so quickly.. unfortunate that this bug slipped through due to lack of QA.

==========================

I still have iPhoto '08 and am about to buy iLife '11. Any suggestions anyone?

This update not only fixes data loss issues, but also the problems with creating and/or editing existing books.

Before the update it was for a lot of users impossible to edit their existing books, and it was also not possible to create a new one, unless you would start your mac in safe mode.

All of these problems are now gone.

Thank you Apple.

There are a lots of different NFL jersey. Authentic jerseys are generally more cheaper and perhaps the most coveted, also they are all have a high quality. An authentic NFL jersey should be as good quality can be found in the shirts worn by NFL players themselves. They are a serious matter and have it all sewn on graphics, including figures and should last for years. You can also create customized authentic jerseys.Welcome to our website to order them http://www.nfljersey-online.com/
