Does this fix bugs where new events added on the top instead of on the bottom?

I also hate escape key not taking me out of events =(

I guess I'll also backup before updating...

I think it not full screen as you now have a bar on the bottom and top. In the previous version of iPhoto. It would disappear after a certain idle time. Now it is there all the time.

Woopdedo. Unless you have a really shrimpy monitor, I don't see that as an issue. It's virtually full screen with the exception of a small bar at the top and bottom. Besides, there are other ways to view them full screen.

I have been having a nightmare getting iphoto to work. installed it patched it.

hope this new patch will actually make the program work and i can use my photo library again.

iphoto '11 didnt even work 1x for me after i updates. spent over 2+ hours on phone with different apple tech support people today.

I guess this 9.1 version of iphoto '11 is not available for download. tried software update and it wasn't available.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Update needed, but let's see an update of iWeb

iPhotot 9.1 hard crashes my iMac while editing photos

Not impressed with the changes so far... especially the part about iPhoto 9.1 chashing my iMac (09' 27inch 2.8Ghz i7, with 16GB, and 30" Cinema display via Mini Display port to dual link adapter). While doing basic edits (using the Cinema Display), the Cinema display will suddenly go dark and the iMac's screen gets something that looks like a TV with no signal (snow). Have to force shutdown and it takes a long time to come back. Not confidence inspiring!:(

what is ok for you, does not necessary be ok for everyone else. i guess you have a large monitor, but imagine you have a mac book and this totally large "edit bar" on the right is there all the way... it is inacceptable that you are FORCED that it is there!

also the bar on the top and on the bottom: it distracts the view! when you choose photos, you have to be able to see the photo only. you need to get a clear impression of the photo, not of the border around with color information of other photos that are stacked in a small bar on the bottom.

it is actually OK that apple supplies you with the functions, and it is ok that they want you to see them as default. but it is not ok that you are FORCED to keep it that way. it is as if you buy a lamp at ikea and you can not switch it off, simply because ikea says: "no on-off switch on the lamp - we like it that way!".

Haven't opened my iLife disk yet... was debating taking it back because of all the complaints about iPhoto. However, I see apples quick with the fix I'll just hold on to it and wait for some more updates. :D

Worth buying?

Hi,

I plan to get a MacBook Air just to get the new iPhoto... can I use the iPhoto that comes with the MacBook Air for my other Intel-Macs? Or I need to separate purchase?

You probably need separate purchase. I tried the same thing with iPhoto 09 in my iMac and it doesn't work.

and no mail option....have you selected a photo...and clicked share...and then click email.....wait a second...are you on a PC?!?

No, he's not necessarily on a PC. He's referring to the fact that when you do as you suggest, select>share>email, you can send only the fancy-schmancy formatted email templates, which some people don't like or don't find useful for every email. Yes, there's a workaround for that--select>drag to mail icon.

But if you DO use the mail function from within iPhoto, as you suggest, no record of emails "sent" appears in the mail app "sent" folder. For users wanting to manage their correspondence, that's a big downer. Imagine you're in an office and you have a file cabinet holding your correspondence; suddenly someone says yeah, but if you send anything from the post office on the way home from work rather than the office mail pickup, you have to file it in this drawer over here instead. Or worse, there's no place to file it and see a record of what you've sent. Hardly a step forward, imho.

9.1 just destroyed my library, tried restoring from a backup, no joy. Really angry right now.

I got the same thing. WTF? Did you do a complete "restore from backup" or did you just restore iPhoto and / or its accompanying folders?

you buy a mac book air JUST to get the new 15$ iphoto? i'm sure apple wished that there are a lot more people around who act like you. I guess you also buy a cow if you want milk, eh?

still having the same bugs.

i installed ilife 11 and had a lot of trouble with it on iphoto. i didn't lose any pictures but iphoto takes a lot to load and crashes sometimes.

However, i wasn't worried with iphoto being slow, instead i found a new horrible bug. When exporting the image, it only exports the original. So the editing feature is almost useless because it exports the image only as the original. Is anyone having this problem too?

I restored then, my old iPhoto 09 application and library from the backup i made before the update. Today, i tried again this new update. Still having the same bugs. So right now i'm running iPhoto 09 with iMovie 11, Garage band and iDVD from iLife 11. Only iPhoto is giving me trouble. I would recommend everyone restoring back to the old iPhoto 09 or using aperture 3 instead. I don't like aperture 3, but definitely better than iPhoto 11 at the moment,

I only got my iLife upgrade disk yesterday but I'm actually liking iPhoto so far. I can see how the email option could be annoying for some people but I very rarely email actual photos to other people as I tend to put them on MobileMe and then send the link out so it doesn't affect me personally.
I think the reason we are seeing so many updates is that it was rushed out the door so that the restore thumb drives could be created for the Air and packaged in time for the release of that machine. Over the next month or so i think well see a lot of updates that make the product more complete...

I have the prior generation of :apple:TV. It seems to work with iPhoto '11 just fine.
I've read somewhere that if you unlink and then link the iTunes with your :apple:TV, it should work. I did not need to do anything.
Just works.

..and Jeaz, thanks! I thought from comments in the forums that Apple had dropped support for ATV gen1 in iPhoto '11, glad you have put me right.

By the time you can buy it in the app store it will prob all be fixed and can buy iPhoto on it's own!

Not really

Is it "safe" to upgrade now? I'm hot for the new photobook features, but have been holding off until it sounds like the big gotchas have been ironed out. Are there any real critical deficiencies remaining?

A few reasons not to update:
(1) You cannot zoom into photos without having a quarter of the screen filled with ugly toolbars.
(2) The mail feature sucks.
(3) The whole experience is sluggish as compared to iPhoto 8.
(4) There aren't any really new features for editing.
(5) Downgrading back to iPhoto 8 is a headache.

I don't see why iPhoto didn't ship with this in the box. It's not like it's a new feature, and I know a lot of people who have utilized it to make christmas presents and the like. Color me confused.

what do you mean full screen is still not full screen...i must have got a bad copy because everything in my iLife 11 is working 100%....and now with calendars back everything is perfect...i have updated both of my iMacs and a MacBook pro to iLife 11 with no issues what so ever....are you actually having issues...or are you just jumping the bandwagon 2 hate on Apple?

I think folks mean that there is still a tool bar top and bottom, which does not disappear. However much worse than this, if you have an external editor configured such as photoshop, full screen no longer gives you access to the internal iPhoto editor as it used to on previous versions. The worst of all is that you can no longer zoom in full screen to examine detail in an image. This is absolutely vital for me and means I have to leave a set of the DNG/RAW files on my MBP, so that I can view and zoom in Lightroom. The full screen was not broken in the previous version of iPhoto, why mess around with it?

9.1 just destroyed my library, tried restoring from a backup, no joy. Really angry right now.

I had the same problem and did some digging. After comparing a brand new iPhoto library to my old one that gave this error, I noticed a difference in one of the plist files.

In Database/DataModelVersion.plist, the new library has the following entry:

<key>isIPhotoLibrary</key>
<true/>

My old one didn't. When I added it to my old library, it opened!

I don't know what the rate of problems are, but I haven't had any. I was sure to run the disk utility to fix any bad privileges before installing (which seems to be the cause of some of the problems).
