Is AirPrint

Is AirPrint available for windows users like it was in 10.1 beta 2

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Apple wouldn't want to make the windows iTunes too good. I mean, why switch to a mac if an Apple app works really well on your PC already?

Conversely, would you buy expensive Apple hardware if the Apple software you've used in Windows sucks worse than other Windows software?

I think it probably a good idea to not have both an iTunes and iOS update on the same day. Install iTunes and work out any kinks, then release 4.2

Maybe Tuesday. ;)

AirPlay is really useful for iPod touches, iPhones and iPads. You could be watching a YouTube video or something in VLC in the card and just press a button or two to stream that right onto your HDTv when you get home without any hassles like syncing, registering or joining homesharing. Only caveat is that you need an Apple TV 2 connected to that HDTV. You can stream audio from iDevice to any speakers connected to an AirPort Extreme or Express which is what AirTunes did.

On the computer, it's also useful since you can watch something in iTunes like a podcast or movie, press the AirPlay button and have it streamed to your HDTV instantly without any hassles like the ones I mentioned above. It's just a protocol that allows you to instantly and hassle-free stream content from any iDevice or computer Mac and PC to your Apple TV 2 connected to your HDTv or speakers connected through an AirPort Extreme or Express.

Airprint

No, it's gone. Just like it disappeared in the release version of 10.6.5 OS X.

Don't know what is happening there.

I can confirm this. As I wasn't able to get it working with my windows networked printer, I'm hoping it's pulled so they can fix the bugs.

How do you stream from itunes to ATV2 then. i can't do it !

Am I missing something here? I can already wirelessly stream movies from iTunes to the new Apple TV. So why is this listed as a new feature?

Turn on Home Sharing on both your Apple TV and in iTunes, and make sure you use the same email account for both. In ATV2, under the "Computers" header, you should see your iTunes library listed.

iTunes and Safari on Windows are probably the best software available for that platform. My Dad's coworkers who use PCs and iPhones use iTunes, which is rather speedy and not crappy at all. The interface is smooth and elegant, and performance is top notch. Can't say that for Chrome, Firefox or IE on any platform.

I know, I'm happy that I can finally remove Ping from the sidebar. ^_^

What does everyone have against Ping? The option to hide it is most welcome but why does everyone seem to loathe it so much? I use it all the time and have found nothing that bugs me to the degree it bugs you and other people who seem to hate it so much.

I don't have anything against Ping, but I don't use it so I prefer it not to be there.

thanks but I have always been able to do that. I understood that you could do it via airplay from within itunes now ?

That's not exactly the same thing as doing it from iTunes though.

Yeah, but I believe you have to wait until the Apple TV iOS software is updated to 4.2 for Airplay to work regardless if the source is from a mobile iOS device or your Mac.

Imagine your friend with a Windows laptop comes to your house to hang out or watch a movie, etc. Instead of having to log into your iTunes account for homesharing, he can just stream a Podcast or movie to your Apple TV 2 connected to your HDTV instantly and without hassles. Not everyone trusts people that much to give them their iTunes account info. AirPlay removes the hassle and potential security issue of giving people your iTunes account info in order to stream content through homesharing. Also, it could be you bringing your Mac laptop to a friends house, etc.

Homesharing is recommended for devices that you personally own in your home. Hence HOMEsharing. AirPlay is for those impromptu times when you don't have access to someone else's iTunes account but want to quickly share video or audio content.

Interesting.

I hope they keep it out of iTunes. iTunes is bloated enough. It should be a seperate item like Bonjour Printer Wizard for Windows.

As usual they try to get me to download Safari and oddly a MobileMe control Panel.

Mac users sniff at bloatware and adware on PC, but Apple is certainly not shy about it.

Oh ok. I understand now. Thanks.

is this the same version as the beta?

For the Windows version at least, the Beta was 10.1.0.10 as I recall and now it is 10.1.0.54. I was happy to see that as the beta of 10.1.0.10 (on Windows at least) was a little buggy in the way it behaved. Too soon to tell if those issues I was having were fixed.

Now every time I open iTunes it asks if I want to allow or deny incoming connections. I have it set to allow incoming connections in OS X Security. No matter! It asks me every single time I open it what I want to do with incoming connections.

it will be interesting to see if the atv will be updated with the other ios devices, or seperately...

For goodness sake. I'm running the 10.1b10 on my MBP so need to download the DMG installer. Every time I download it, it doesn't verify properly.

Now I'm trying to update with Software Update on my G5 iMac. It's saying it's having a problem verifying CoreFP. Anyone else having problems?
